The entire Su family was busy preparing for Su Mengyao’s birthday banquet, and Su Jingxue and Su Jingtai also returned from abroad that day.
“Second Brother! Third Brother!”
The moment Su Mengyao saw the two of them walking through the door, she happily ran toward them.
Su Jingxue opened his arms and caught her, his face full of affection.
“Yaoyao, we’re back. Did you miss your brothers?”
As he spoke, Su Jingxue affectionately pinched Su Mengyao’s cheek.
Su Mengyao nestled coquettishly into his arms.
“Of course I did.”
Su Jingtai reached out and stroked Su Mengyao’s head. Then he glanced at Su Ni beside them and said pointedly, “Don’t worry, Yaoyao. Your brother is back now. I won’t let anyone bully you again.”
Su Ni raised an eyebrow at that.
She hadn’t forgotten that when she had first returned to the Su family, Su Mengyao had merely had a nightmare because she was afraid of being sent away. Yet Su Jingtai had thrown Su Ni, who couldn’t swim, into the swimming pool and ordered the servants to stand by the side and beat her with bamboo poles to stop her from climbing out.
She had nearly died in that swimming pool.
“Hmph. Some people really don’t know their place. A lunatic actually thinks she can marry above her station. Does she really think she’s worthy of the Huo family’s marriage alliance?”
Su Jingxue sneered as well, looking at Su Ni as though she were his sworn enemy.
Su Ni’s eyes darkened.
It had been Su Jingxue who had come up with the plan to have her locked away in the psychiatric hospital.
Thinking back to those five years in the bleak, sunless institution, Su Ni unconsciously clenched her fists, her nails digging deeply into her palms. The pain made her even more keenly aware of just how vicious these people’s hearts were.
“What? You think staying quiet will make this go away?” Su Jingxue crossed his arms, his face full of haughty arrogance. “If you know what’s good for you, hurry to the Huo family and break off the engagement. Give the engagement back to Yaoyao.”
Su Ni let out a cold laugh.
“I don’t steal or cheat. Unlike some people who can’t come up with their own research, so they simply claim someone else’s work as their own.”
Su Jingtai’s face instantly turned deathly pale, and a flash of panic crossed his eyes. Enraged and embarrassed, he shouted, “You… What the hell are you talking about?!”
*Does she know something?*
Impossible. Su Ni was just a country bumpkin spouting nonsense.
Yes, that had to be it.
“Jingtai, don’t bother with her. She’s a lunatic who’ll accuse anyone of anything.”
Su Jingxue cast Su Ni a disdainful glance.
“You’ve got enough trouble of your own to worry about, yet you still have time to meddle in other people’s business?”
When Su Ni saw Su Jingxue step forward, her gaze turned icy.
“I wonder what your fans would think if they found out about the things you’ve been hiding. As a top celebrity, how would you ever face them then?”
Fine beads of sweat appeared on Su Jingxue’s forehead. He stammered, “You… What do you know?”
He had gone abroad this time precisely because of certain matters, leaving the country to lie low and avoid the storm.
His manager had clearly told him that everything had already been taken care of. How had Su Ni found out? And just how much did she know?
Seeing that neither of her brothers could get the better of Su Ni, Su Mengyao immediately stepped forward.
“Second Brother, Third Brother, don’t listen to her nonsense. She’s only been back for a few days. What could she possibly know? She must have heard some random gossip from one of the servants and is just making things up.”
Su Jingxue and Su Jingtai came to their senses as well.
What could Su Ni, a country girl, possibly know?
They had actually almost been fooled by her.
She was just a girl they’d always been able to manipulate however they pleased. What was there to be afraid of?
“So you really think getting engaged to Huo Shiyue makes you something special? Now you even dare throw your weight around in this house.”
Su Jingxue regained his arrogant expression, his eyes filled with contempt.
“What an idiot.”
“Haha. Just wait until she gets dumped and becomes an unwanted country bumpkin. Then she’ll have plenty of time to cry.”
Su Jingtai felt that it was incredibly humiliating to have been frightened by Su Ni just moments ago.
“Once Huo Shiyue wakes up and finds out he’s engaged to some wild girl from the countryside, he’ll probably want to break off the engagement immediately.”
Just then, the butler walked in.
“Second Young Master, Third Young Master, Assistant Huo from President Huo’s side is here.”
