“What?” Su Mengyao blurted out in surprise, her face full of disbelief. “Are you sure Jinxiu Pavilion said they’d send the clothes over shortly?”
“Yes.” Even the butler felt as though he were dreaming. “That’s what the person in charge of Jinxiu Pavilion said personally.”
Mrs. Su was stunned as well, but a moment later, a hint of delight appeared on her face. “Could it be that Jinxiu Pavilion made a mistake? Maybe they thought Yaoyao was the one having the dress made, which is why they agreed so readily.”
As she spoke, Mrs. Su took Su Mengyao’s hand, her face beaming with pride, as though she had already decided that the dress was meant for her daughter.
Su Jingheng nodded in agreement. “That must be it. Didn’t Mom place an order at Jinxiu Pavilion last time for Yaoyao’s eighteenth birthday banquet?”
“But they said they were busy rushing to finish dresses for other socialites and couldn’t fit us into their schedule…” Su Mengyao frowned in confusion. Her heart was filled with delight, but she was also afraid there had been some mistake.
“Then they must have found out that you’re about to become a student of the piano master Jack Bunian, and that you’ll have a limitless future. Of course they’re scrambling to curry favor with you.” Su Jingheng proudly patted Su Mengyao on the head.
“That must be it.” Mrs. Su nodded repeatedly, her eyes filled with anticipation and pride. “With our Yaoyao’s talent for the piano, Master Jack Bunian will definitely take you as his student. When that happens, the Su family’s position in Jingbei will rise right along with yours. Won’t all those young masters from prestigious families be fighting to win Yaoyao’s favor? At least Jinxiu Pavilion knows how to read the situation.”
Su Mengyao was practically floating on air from their praise, the corners of her lips unconsciously curling upward. “Don’t worry, Dad and Mom. I’ll never forget how the Su family nurtured me.”
The butler stood to the side, wanting to say something but hesitating. Seeing how happy Madam and Miss were, he didn’t dare say more. But…
“Madam, someone from Jinxiu Pavilion is here with the clothes,” a maid came in to report.
“Let them in.”
Everyone turned toward the doorway.
Several employees from Jinxiu Pavilion filed in one after another, each carrying an exquisite gift box. When Su Mu saw that the person leading them was Lin Ya, the person in charge of Jinxiu Pavilion, she shot to her feet in shock.
After all, this was the kind of treatment reserved for the top elite.
Lin Ya wore a perfectly tailored black suit, every movement radiating elegance and competence.
Su Mu straightened her clothes and put on a broad smile as she stepped forward. “Miss Lin, how could I trouble you to come all this way personally? You could have simply sent one of your employees over.”
Su Mengyao stood nearby as well, a hint of anticipation and shyness in her eyes, as though she could already picture herself wearing that magnificent gown.
Lin Ya merely smiled faintly. After sweeping her gaze around the room, she asked, “It’s no trouble. May I ask where the eldest Miss Su’s room is? I’ll take the clothes to her personally.”
Hearing this, Su Mengyao slowly rose to her feet, an arrogant smile on her face. “No need. You can just give them to me.”
But as she reached out, Lin Ya took a step back and calmly explained, “Miss Su, you’ve misunderstood. These clothes are for the eldest Miss Su, Su Ni.”
The moment those words were spoken, the smiles on the Su family’s faces froze.
Su Mu’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What did you say? The clothes are for Su Ni?”
Su Jingheng stepped forward as well, his face darkening, anger evident in his voice. “Miss Lin, have you gotten the wrong person? The eldest daughter of the Su family has always been Yaoyao. That Su Ni is nothing more than a country bumpkin.”
Lin Ya neither agreed nor disagreed. She turned to Su Zhengguo, the smile never leaving her face.
“Mr. Su, may I ask where the eldest Miss Su’s room is?”
