The Scowling Sidekick: A My Hero Academia Fanfiction

After seeing the tournament lineup, Ayaka and I went to find the nerd and tell him about that depressed-looking bastard. I know I have no room to talk about depression, but I can’t help the way he fucking looks. As we are looking for him, I see Endeavor leaning against a wall in the hall. I smack my teeth at him, “Tsk.” As we pass, he asks, “What is your problem, kid?” I glare at him, “You.” Endeavor asks while wearing a scowl and a vein popping on his forehead, “What exactly did I do to you?” I say with venom in my words, “It is what you didn’t do.” Ayaka, having put two and two together, also glares at him as do Sir Floof and Garlic, who pick up on our emotions and growl at him as well. We kept walking, and we found the nerd in one of the waiting rooms, where Ojiro seems to have already told him about that bastard. The nerd asks, “Hey Sekai and Kubo, what’s up?” I say with a clenched fist, “Beat that bastard’s ass.” Ayaka squeezes my hand, “I am sure he will, he will just have to not talk to him.” I feel water glistening in my eyes, and I really don’t want to cry in front of him. So I turn and leave with Ayaka, who turns and says stuff to them nonverbally, probably doing her ‘Sekai translation’ as they call it. I sigh, but accept it because I love her more than life itself.

After that, Ayaka wanted to go out and cheer for our classmates who were participating in the recreational games. I quickly teleported us back so she could have fun. The other girls tried to pressure me again into wearing the cheerleading outfit like them, and I just kept teleporting away. If I didn’t eat after that calvary battle, I wouldn’t have had the energy to do this since that bastard really pushed my quirk earlier. They gave up after a while and got into the cheering while I stood leaning against the wall, sucking on a jawbreaker just in case. Sir Floof and Garlic resume playing near the girls, cheering, enjoying the positive attention. One of the other students playing a scavenger hunt game came running up to me, showing their card, ‘Angry Person’. I yell at him, “NOT A CHANCE!” and teleport away from that extra while he tries to chase me around. The audience seems to think it is a funny bit, which pisses me off more, which makes them laugh more. I try to keep my rage bottled up while baring my teeth and not yelling, not to give them what they want, and just teleport constantly with a silent rage.

After the dumb side games came to a close, the hero Cementoss came out and made a nice fighting arena with his quirk rather quickly. Ayaka has since changed back to her PE uniform, and Mineta seemed bummed. Part of me wants to hit him, but I know she was really cute. I just wear my usual scowl. We are currently sitting in the stands with the rest of our classmates. Present Mic announces, “THANK YOU, CEMENTOSS!! HEY FANS, ARE YOU READY?!!!” The crowd cheers, including our classmates. Present Mic says, “The real battles are about to begin!! Are you excited?!! Can you feel it?!! MAKE SOME NOOOOOOIIIIIISE!” The crowd erupts around me in excitement while I just stay seated, enjoying my jawbreaker while sighing in exasperation at all the loudness violating my eardrums.

Present Mic continues, “From here on, our competitors will be competing one-on-one! Sometimes, there is no backup, and heroes have to rely on themselves! Skill. Strength. Courage. Wisdom. Heart. A hero needs all of these to rise to the top!” The first fight is the nerd against the depressed bastard, who apparently is named Shinso. They light the torches at the corners of the fighting ring while Present Mic hypes up the crowd, “Ok, audience! Let’s get to the good stuff you have been waiting for! Welcome, our first fighters!! Whoa, the kid looks scared in that picture, doesn’t he? IT’S IZUKU MIDORIYA FROM THE HERO COURSE VERSUS HITOSHI SHINSO FROM GENERAL STUDIES! THE ONLY THING HE HAS DONE TO STAND OUT WAS ALMOST GETTING CHOKED BY HIS TEAMMATE! THE RULES ARE EASY: FORCE YOUR OPPONENT OUT OF THE RING OR IMMOBILIZE THEM! You can also win if you get the other person to cry uncle!”

The nerd and that bastard approach each other in the ring and stop a decent way away from each other while the nerd cracks his knuckles. Present Mic continues, “Recovery Girl is on standby, so bring on the injuries!!” I scoff and mumble, “Did that loudmouth really just encourage students to hurt each other? Not very heroic if you ask me…” Ayaka gently squeezes my hand and says, “It’s all in fun. Present Mic just said nothing fatal or anything, so it isn’t like it is a death match or anything.” I sigh and groan at her words, and she turns my head to kiss me. We go into 2D momentarily, and Mineta tries to lick the stadium chair. Aoyama grimaces, “Ewww. Mineta, don’t you know those chairs are hardly cleaned? C'est insalubre!” Jiro wraps her earphone jacks around him and keeps him away from us, and Tsu says, “You guys are going to miss the fight if you keep that up.” Tsu giggles, and Ayaka takes us out of 2D, and I am straddled on top of her when we return, and I get off her immediately and hide my blushing face behind my hair.

When I sit back in my chair, Sir Floof gets in my lap and goes to take a nap since he wore himself out playing, and Garlic does the same with Ayaka. We gently pet them as they drift into dreamland while Present Mic yells, “BEGIN!!!” However, neither of them is moving as if Shinso is trying to get the nerd to talk. The nerd looks pissed after a moment, and he runs and yells something to Shinso and immediately stops in his tracks. Ojiro stands and puts his hands on his head, “Ugggh, I warned him and everything!!!” I groan as well. I was really hoping that nerd would beat his ass. I ignore Present Mic’s commentary since he is starting to drive me nuts. The nerd starts walking towards the edge, and I yell, “Snap out of it, you damn nerd, and beat that bastard’s ass!” He keeps walking towards the edge, and I smack my teeth in frustration. Uraraka asks, “Deku, what are you doing?!” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. It’s that bastard’s quirk. Why did you think I was so pissed earlier?”

Ida, while wearing a concerned expression and waving his hands in a panic, says, “He’ll lose if he walks out of the ring!” I smack my teeth, “Tsk.” The nerd almost walks out of bounds, and something happens, and there is a huge cloud of smoke with a loud bang. He stops right at the edge of the ring. He was able to barely tap into that One-for-All, it appears. Fucking main character energy much? I sigh half in relief that he is still in the contest and has an opportunity to beat him, while also half in exasperation due to remembering that terrible other Japan. Ida jumps up and pulls me out of my depressing thoughts, “That’s how you do it!!” Uraraka sighs in relief, “Wow, I was freaking out there for a moment.” Ojiro, who was standing, sat down while sighing in relief, “That almost killed me.”

I say to the classmates in front of me who are still standing, “Tsk. Can you sit down? Some people are trying to see, you know.” Ayaka bonks me on the head, “You could have asked them nicer, Sekai.” I sigh, and my classmates giggle, and I groan. When they sit down, I see the nerd down there holding a hand to his mouth, and it seems that two of his fingers look broken. I take it that his body can’t quite handle All Might’s powerful quirk, and it causes him harm when he uses it. He lowers his hand and grabs the wrist of the arm that has the broken fingers while glaring at the brainwashing bastard. He starts running towards the bastard, and he pushes him backwards, and the bastard punches him in the face while he continues to push him. I yell, “Don’t win like that, you fucking nerd!BEAT HIS ASS!”

Yaoyorozu says, “You aren’t sounding like a hero right now.” I smack my teeth and say, “Tsk. This has nothing to do with that.” While holding Ayaka's hand, I start to shake while thinking of the feeling of not being in control. Ayaka lays her head on my shoulder, “Shhh. I am here.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. Well, yeah. I know you are, but that doesn’t take away the intense emotions flooding me while I was in that numb fog.” Ojiro asks, “What did you feel? I didn’t feel anything like that…” I clutch my PE uniform with the hand that isn’t holding Ayaka’s hand, and I sigh and say, “I-it brought back bad memories where I felt a similar numb feeling.” I could have given him an attitude, but I actually like him, so I answered plainly while not giving them too much information. I don’t want a pity party thrown for me or anything like that. By the time our conversation was over, the nerd had thrown that bastard out of the ring in an unsatisfactory manner.

Kaminari starts picking fun at the spiky bastard, “He has done that throw on you before, hasn’t he?” Bakugo scowls, “Sparky, you better shut your fucking face.” I can’t help but let out a “PFT.” Bakugo yells at me, “What’s so damn funny, you extra?!” I roll my eyes and look back to the arena while popping another jawbreaker in my mouth. The nerd comes back after a few minutes with some bandages on his fingers, and Uraraka says, “You did great out there, Deku!” Ida points to the chair beside him, “We saved you a seat.” The nerd smiles slightly and says, “Thanks, guys.” Ojiro pumped his arm, and I said, “Tsk. I told you to beat his ass, not baby him like that.” The nerd slumps and says, “I couldn’t after talking with him.” I sigh in exasperation as they bring out the next fighters, which are Two-toned and Sero.

Sero wraps Two-toned in tape and tries to throw him out of bounds the moment that Present Mic said to begin. Two-toned made a huge block of ice, completely immobilizing Sero in a brutal way. He used so much power that ice was sticking out of the top opening of this arena by a large margin. The only part of Sero that wasn’t frozen solid was his head. Two-toned was determined to be the victor of the match. The audience started chanting “Nice try!” to Sero to help lift his spirits while Two-toned melted the ice imprisoning Sero. Once the ice was completely melted, they resumed the matches, and next up was Kaminari and the vine chick from class 1-B, apparently named Shiozaki. Kaminari lets off his full-powered electric attack, which Shiozaki hides from with a wall of vines, and she immobilizes him in seconds. I can’t help but laugh, “Serves that pervert right.”

When she releases him, he is doing his dumbed-out glazed eyes thing where he can only give two thumbs up and giggle. Jiro says while rubbing her head, “She is good, dude.” Some annoying motherfucker peers over a wall and says to us, wearing a condescending smile, “Man, he was right! It really was over in just two seconds! I wonder if his quirk is the ability to tell the future. Wasn’t class 1-A supposed to be so much better than us?” He starts laughing maniacally, and the redhead, Kendo, from earlier, knocks him out and says, “Sorry about him.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. What the fuck is that dude’s problem with us anyway?” Everyone says simultaneously, “Bakugo.” I sigh, and Bakugo yells, “Don’t blame everything on me, you damn extras!”

The nerd is muttering, “Shiozakiplacedfourthintheentranceexam. Andthosevines. Iwonderifshe’sstudiedKamuiWood’smoves. Bindingattackshavethepotentialtobepowerful. Ihardlyseeanyonebreakoutofthemwhentheyareused. Itisimpossibletogetclosewhileavoidinghervinesandthorns…” Uraraka says, “Maybe you should relax a bit, Deku, before planning too far ahead.” He yelps, “Sorry! I don’t realize I am talking out loud sometimes when I take notes. It isn’t every day I get to see so many amazing quirks from other classes.” He pauses and smiles, “I have been taking notes on everyone in our class as well! Here is what I have on your Zero Gravity quirk!” Uraraka seems stunned and chuckles, “Deku, you know that I have always known that you are amazing. You are just so motivated, and this sports festival is reminding me of that.”

The next match is getting ready to begin, and Ida is down there with a pink-haired girl with goggles. Jiro says, “So it seems to be hero versus support, huh?” Tsu says with a finger on her chin, “I don’t know how this will turn out.” Sato asks, “So… what’s up with Ida? Where did he get that weird gear?” It seems that the pink-haired girl, Hatsume, talked him into wearing it. Hatsume says, “I bet you like how that gear makes you fast, huh? Don’t your legs feel lighter than usual?” This chick is using this as a commercial to show off her gear as she easily avoids him with her own gear. As we watch this fight, Ayaka says after a chuckle, “I think she would get along with Miss Bulma.” I chuckle, “Yeah, I think you are right.” Tsu heard us and asked, “Who is Miss Bulma?” Ayaka says, “When we got lost, she helped us along the way. She is an ingenious inventor as well.”

After a long commercial break, Hatsume finally stepped out of bounds, leaving Ida still in the capture net in the ring. The nerd starts his usual, annoying mumbling, and Uraraka gets up silently and walks off. The next match was Ashido and the guy with the weird face from class 1-B, who is named Honenuki. Ashido started skating on acid towards him, immediately shooting some acid shots in his direction at the beginning of the match, and Honenuki places his hand on the cement floor of the ring to not only dodge her attack, but also use his quirk to soften the cement ring, causing Ashido to sink. He then hardens the ground, completely immobilizing her. She yells, “Damnit! I didn’t even get to do anything yet!” They called the match, and the winner was that Honenuki dude.

The next fight was between Tokoyami and Yaoyorozu. When the fight began, Tokoyami summoned his dark shadow, who pushed Yaoyorozu, who was able to summon a shield to block. Though her efforts to fight were in vain since she wasn’t given an opportunity to utilize her quirk. She looks devastated down there, and I kind of feel for her a bit. Ojiro says, “I bet she is pretty upset about how that went down.” The next match started almost immediately, and it was with Kirishima and the spiky, grey-haired guy, Tetsutetsu. This fight is pretty much even, and both of them are determined to win. The fight lasted forever, and it finally ended in a draw. They had to put both of them on a gurney after the match.

The next fight was Uraraka and that spiky bastard. Ida asks the nerd, “Midoriya, what exactly was that strategy you came up with for her?” The nerd says while directing his attention back to the ring, “It wasn’t really a plan since Kacchan’s so strong. He doesn’t leave any openings for close combat, and the more he moves, the more he sweats. That makes his quirk more powerful. He can also use his explosions to move around the air, but if she can touch him, she can make him float and send him out of bounds. When the match begins, Uraraka gets low to the ground and rushes the spiky bastard. The nerd looks pumped, “That is it, Uraraka! That is a great start, and now all she needs to do is touch him.” Ida says, “It won’t be easy. You know Bakugo won’t let her get close.” The nerd says, “That’s why he won’t dodge her.”

Mineta seems concerned and says, “He blasted her!” Tsu says, “Looks like he isn’t planning on holding back.” She flings her jacket as a decoy and almost touches him, but his quick reaction time allows him to blast her away at the last second. Sero says, “Damn, that reaction time isn’t human.” Kaminari says, “Seriously, that dude is insane. His lightning-fast reflexes put her at a big disadvantage.” Tsu asks, “Is she ok?” Jiro covers her eyes, “I can’t watch this.” I was worried as well, until I saw that look on Uraraka’s face and that bastard's face. She made that spiky bastard sweat and almost beat him. I tell them, “She almost got him a moment ago, and that spiky bastard knows it.” Ayaka chimes in, “They are both putting it all on the line out there.”

The crowd starts booing the spiky bastard, thinking he is being cruel, and I find myself chuckling at their misunderstanding. I hope it hurts his feelings. Uraraka then releases debris from the ring that she used her quirk on as a finishing move on Bakugo while rushing him. He blasts it away in one humongous explosion, and the power of the blast knocks Uraraka back. She struggles to get up, and she tries to stumble over to that spiky bastard to punch him, but collapses. She tries to crawl to Bakugo, and she eventually stops moving. Ms. Midnight steps in and checks on her and calls the match, announcing Bakugo the victor.

Sero teases that spiky bastard when he returns to the stands, “Hey, Bakugo! So you like playing the villain, huh? Must have been tough.” Tsu says, “Well…. You did make a pretty convincing bad guy. It could have been because it was someone like Uraraka.” The spiky bastard yells with his hands in his pockets, “Shut up or else, you fucking idiots!” Kaminari starts spouting bull shit about how Uraraka is frail and how he held back against Shiozaki. I can't help but let out a “PFT!” Tsu said what we were all thinking, “Kaminari, she completely overpowered you. It wasn’t even a contest.” He says, pouting, “Awww. Can’t you just let me have this?” That spiky bastard says seriously, “Tsk. That girl is anything but frail.” After that match, they held a lesser contest for Kirishima and Tetsutetsu, and they had an arm wrestling match. Just like their fight, it lasted a long time, but Kirishima came out on top in the end.

Yaoyorozu came back, and it was evident that she was crying. I reach in my pocket and grab a few jawbreakers and go to hand them to her, “Tsk. Hey, you, here are some of my jawbreakers.” Ayaka says while putting her hands on her face, “Awww, you are trying to make her feel better.” I smack my teeth again, “Tsk. Duh.” She giggles and hugs my arm that is not outstretched to Yaoyorozu, and I feel her breast on my arm. Ayaka tells Yaoyorozu, “Don’t get too down about that fight, Momo. It was just a bad matchup. We all know that your quirk is amazing.” My brain short-circuits (BOOB! BOOB! BOOB!) as Yaoyorozu smiles warmly and accepts my offering. Tokoyami stays quiet since he knows that he is the reason that she is down, and I can tell he doesn’t know what to say.

There is some time before the next rounds, and I tell Ayaka, “Before they start the next round of fighting, I would like to use the restroom.” Ayaka nods and tells the others, “We will be back. We are going to go to the restroom during this intermission.” They nod, and we put Sir Floof and Garlic in their PokéBalls. Then I hold her hand and teleport us to the walkway so we don’t have to squeeze past people and get in their space. That would just be uncomfortable for everyone involved. In the hall, we run into Endeavor again, and I groan and he asks with that flaming scowl, “Can you tell me what it is I didn’t do?” I sigh and smack my teeth, “Tsk. Do you really not remember me?” He looks like he is trying, and I say, “Try thinking back several years to a little ‘street rat’ with jagged pink hair eating garbage. Not only did you not help me when I needed it, but you also treated me like garbage. So as disrespectfully as possible, fuck you, Endeavor! Let’s go, Ayaka. I am sick of this fake-ass hero. Tsk.” The flicker of realization flashes across his face as we pass him.

Some frail-looking old man with blonde hair seemed to hear what we said, but to be honest, I don’t care. It isn't like I can turn back time and unsay words. They both were heading to the arena when I glanced back. I don’t think they know each other by how they are interacting. I ignore them and go to use the restroom with Ayaka, and we return to our classmates. I have a vein popping on my forehead from our encounter with Endeavor just now. Mineta said while squeezing his hands grossly as if wanting to grab her butt in passing, “Come, squeeze past me, Kubo.” I said, “Tsk. Ew.” Then I teleported us directly in front of our seats. Ayaka asks, “Can I get a jawbreaker from you?” I reach into my pocket, and she puts her hand on my hand and goes to kiss me, and takes it from my mouth directly. When she does this, it is like my brain short-circuits from being so flustered.

I tell her while pouting a bit, “That is mean when you know that we can’t… You know...” She giggles and says to me while wearing a sexy smirk, “Sorry, how about I let you punish me later?” I get an immediate nosebleed from her words, and everyone laughs while Kaminari and Mineta are crying and saying, “Why can’t that be me?!” The nerd and Two-toned step into the ring while Yaoyorozu made me a tissue for my nosebleed while remaining in her depressive slump. The moment Present Mic said begin, Two-toned unleashed a large ice attack, and the nerd broke a finger to create a large shockwave to disperse it, which knocked Two-toned almost out of the ring, but he used his ice to prevent himself from leaving the ring. Two-toned lets off another smash, and the nerd breaks yet another finger.

Kirishima comes running, “Shit, I am missing it!” Kaminari congratulates him on his win, “Great job advancing, Kirishima.” Kirishima smiles that spiky smile of his, “Thanks, dude. It looks like I gotta take Bakugo down next.” The spiky bastard has his arms crossed and says calmly with his scowl present, “You’re dead.” He doesn’t take his eyes off the fight. Kirishima chuckles, “Sure, dude, in your dreams. It is crazy how both you and Todoroki have awesome moves that blast the whole stadium. Must be nice.” He says that last part sarcastically. Sero grimaces at the spiky bastard and says, “And, you don’t need to pause between every attack.” The spiky bastard says, still surprisingly calm while remaining focused on the fight, “It’s not like it is easy, you idiots.”

He pauses and continues, “You tear your muscles apart if you use them too much. You run out of breath if you sprint too much.” He looks at his hand briefly, then resumes watching the fight and speaking, “Quirks are physical abilities and can get worn out, so you can’t use them nonstop.” I am shivering from the cold air circulating through the stadium, and Ayaka hugs my arm to share her body heat. My brain starts to short-circuit again while Kirishima says, “Well, that makes sense when you phrase it like that. I wonder what Midoriya’s strategy is?” In the ring, the nerd is breaking himself apart while defending against Two-toned, and the only damage he is taking is his own recoil. He is even rebreaking fingers. The air in this stadium is so cold from the harsh wind and the broken ice. After a point, when it looks like Two-toned is frozen on his right side, he unleashes his flames in a roaring manner from his left side.

It is very warm and a relief in comparison to the cold air that was previously circulating in the stadium. Ida says, “Wow. Incredible.” Endeavor yells, “Yes, Shoto! Have you finally accepted your fate?! Very good! The dawn of a new era is upon us! You will even surpass me, my boy! I created you for this!” I grit my teeth and ask, “Two-toned is that bastard’s son?” Ida says, “He hates his father and used to refuse to use his left side. I am not sure why he decided to use his fire.” Instead of feeling hate for him, I guess you could say I feel pity. To have such a terrible man as his father. He must have been exposed to so much more shit from him than I was. I was only looked down upon for a moment, while he had to live with him. They started prepping for their ultimate moves, and Cementoss summoned lots of cement walls to cushion the impact so they wouldn’t kill each other, while Ms. Midnight summoned her pheromones that try to put them to sleep. After the attack, a mixture of cold and hot air flowed through the stadium with an explosion and a cloud of smoke.

The amount of air force is enough to almost blow the tiny pervert away, and Shoji grabs him. Glad we put our friends in their PokéBalls. The smoke cleared, and the nerd flew against the wall behind him and fell unconscious. Two-toned won. The next fight was with Shiozaki, the vine chick, and Ida. It was a quick match, and Ida used his special move to push her out of bounds without hurting her. The next match was between Tokoyami and the guy with the weird face. The guy with the weird face made the ground soft, and it swallowed Tokoyami, but he used his dark shadow to push him out of bounds so he could win even while immobilized. The next fight was between Kirishima and the spiky bastard. The fight actually goes on for a while, as it seems that Kirishima has a resistance to Bakugo’s explosions. The longer the fight goes on, the more Kirishima struggles as if he can’t keep his hardening activated. Once the spiky bastard caught on, he let loose loads of explosions on Kirishima, which knocked him out.

The nerd came back to the stands after his fight. He glances at us like he knows we know, and I take it that All Might said something to him while he was out. I wonder just how much that musclehead said to him. Our classmates check in on him, which distracts him from me and Ayaka, and he starts smiling again. The next fight is between Ida and Two-toned. Two-toned immediately tries to cut off his escape, knowing he is a runner, and then, when he thinks Ida is trapped, he lets off another ice attack. Ida jumps over it and uses his ultimate to try and kick Two-toned midair. Two-toned dodged the first one, but Ida was able to kick him on the back and knock Two-toned down. Ida tried to grab Two-tone and drag him out of the ring, but after a brief moment, he froze solid in a pillar of ice.

The next match-up was Tokoyami and the spiky bastard. After watching this fight, I can tell that Dark Shadow is scared of the light of Bakugo’s explosions by how it shrinks back and its expression. I mean, it makes sense that darkness is weak to light. So in the end, that spiky bastard obviously won the fight. The last match was between the spiky bastard and Two-toned. This fight seemed close, and the spiky bastard kept yelling at Two-Toned to use his flames, yet he never did, and Bakugo won as a result. He was not happy at all. They had to sedate him and restrain him because he was raging so hard, pissed at Two-toned for holding back. During the awards ceremony, he looked like a rabid dog, and it was quite comical to see. After the ceremony, we went back to the classroom, where Mr. Aizawa said that we had the next two days off to recuperate.
