The Scowling Sidekick: A My Hero Academia Fanfiction

After our break, we went back to class. Ayaka and I dodged the reporters as usual with ease to get to UA’s campus. It was raining, so we teleported all the way even from the gate so it would minimize how much we got wet while I unzipped my hoodie and covered Ayaka. Once we got inside, I stopped teleporting us and we walked the rest of the way. I see Two-toned in the hallway, and I tell him, “Hey, Two-toned, tell that flaming bastard father of yours to eat a bag of dicks the next time you see him.” I think I caught him off guard, because he let out a “Pft.” I smirk and tell him as I pass him, “You can tell him I said it, too.” He smirks back, “Alright.” When we arrived in class, everyone was talking about the attention they were getting from the media and also from everyday people.

I sigh at their excitement, and I kiss Ayaka so she can go inside our notebook. I ignore them, and when Mr. Aizawa opens the door, everyone surprisingly shuts up and says, “Good morning, Mr. Aizawa!” All gross and synchronized, and I groaned while turning the notebook so Ayaka could see Mr. Aizawa and everyone else. Tsu says, “Wow, Mr. Aizawa, you don’t have any more bandages.” Mr. Aizawa scratches his cheek, “Well, that old lady went overboard as usual. We have an important lesson today on Hero Informatics.” Everyone tenses up, thinking it is going to be a boring day. Mr. Aizawa says, “You need hero names. So think hard about what you select, there may be no going back.” The mood completely changed, and everyone got excited while I sighed at their excess energy. Mr. Aizawa was pissed, too, and flashed his quirk to make everyone sit back down.

Mr. Aizawa sighs and says, “This is related to the draft picks during the last time we were in class. Usually, students wouldn’t have to worry about this yet. However, some of you have already been scouted. These pros are investing in you, so don’t think you can just relax when you get to your prospective hero agencies. They can rescind their offer if their interest dies down before graduation.” Hagakure says, “So, you are saying that we will still have to prove ourselves?” Mr. Aizawa says, “Correct. Here are the number of offers for each of our students-” He hits a button and shows a bar graph. He continues, “In past years, it was spread out, but there is a gap this time." Kaminari groans, “Ugh, that’s not fair!” A few other students who didn’t make the cut are grumpy as well. The spiky bastard was placed under Two-toned and hated it, and the classmates noticed as well, which ignited that bastard’s rage. Surprisingly, both Ayaka and I got a few offers even though we dropped out before the finals. Probably because of our performance before we dropped out.

Mr. Aizawa says, “Despite these results, everyone will be interning with pros. Ok? Even the ones who didn’t get any offers.” The nerd asks a dumb question, “So, we are all interning?” Duh, HE JUST FUCKING SAID. I sigh, and Mr. Aizawa says, “Yes. Your class has already gotten to experience combating real villains during the USJ incident. It will be helpful to you to see actual pros at work up close and personal in the field, firsthand. Sato clenches his fist, “And for that, we need hero names!” Uraraka smiles and says, “Things are getting more fun!” Mr. Aizawa says, “Be serious about picking these names…” Before he can finish, the door slams open, and Ms. Midnight comes in and interrupts, “OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!” She is wearing her costume, and the resident pervs smile perversely.

Ms. Midnight says with a wink, “You better be careful, or you might be stuck with something completely indecent.” Ayaka clocks the perverts and says, “Careful, guys, you're drooling.” The girls groan at them while Mr. Aizawa says, “Midnight has a point. She is going to have final approval over your names. It isn’t exactly my specialty. It is important, and it helps reinforce your image and displays what kind of hero you want to be and what you represent. Like ‘All Might’ for example.” They pass out boards and markers, and we all think. Ayaka writes hers down and shows me, ‘Flustrated’. I tell her, “That is amazing, Ayaka. I have no idea what to choose for myself, though. I only realized what my quirk is and haven't had much time to think about it.” She looks like she got inspired suddenly, pulls my board in 2D, and scribbles on it and shows me, ‘Hops’. She says, “I thought this would fit your quirk since you can hop from one place to another.” She mouths, ‘even other worlds’, so the other students don’t hear.

As much as I hate how stupid it sounds, she is right. ‘Hops’ does depict this quirk of mine well in all aspects without saying anything too much. Ms. Midnight asks who wanted to go first, and that insufferable sparkling guy gets up first and raises his board that says, ‘I can not stop twinkling.’ Ms. Midnight changes it to ‘Can’t Stop Twinkling’ and surprisingly likes it. Ashido goes next and says, “My code name: Alien Queen!” Ms. Midnight looks horrified, “Wait, like that horrible monster that has acidic blood? DENIED!” Ashido looks bummed, and everyone else is feeling the pressure now. Tsu goes next, and she came up with ‘Froppy’, and Ms. Midnight loved it. Everyone started chanting Froppy for some reason.

Kirishima chose ‘Red Riot’. Jiro chose ‘Earphone Jack’. Shiro chose ‘Tentacole’. Sero chose ‘Cellophane’. Ojiro chose ‘Tailman’. Sato chose ‘Sugarman’. Ashido chose ‘Pinky’. Kaminari chose ‘Chargebolt’. Hagakure chose ‘Invisible Girl’. Yaoyorozu chose ‘Creati’. Ms. Midnight loved all of those except for Two-toned, who just used his name, Shoto. Tokoyami went next and chose ‘Tsukoyomi’. The tiny pervert chose ‘Grape Juice’. Koda chose ‘Anima’.

The spiky bastard chose ‘King Explosion Murder’. Ms. Midnight immediately shot down his one, and he yelled at her. Uraraka went next and chose ‘Uravity’. Ayaka presented hers to the class, “I’m the background-dimension hero, Flustrated”. The class loves it, and I decided to go next, “I’m the teleporting sidekick: Hops”. Bakugo laughed at it, “Hops?! That is so lame!” I snapped back, “At least it is better than ‘King Explosion Murder’, you idiot.” The spiky bastard yelled back with a vein popping on his forehead, “SHUT UP, IT’S A GOOD NAME!” Ms. Midnight gave us her seal of approval. We sat down while waiting on the nerd, Ida, and the spiky bastard. Ida chose his first name ‘Tenya’. The nerd chose ‘Deku’ and then proceeded to go into a damn monologue about it that nobody asked for.

After everyone decided on a name… almost since Bakugo’s kept getting shot down, Mr. Aizawa told us more about the internships for those that didn’t get any offers, then they dismissed us for lunch. When Uraraka said that she was thinking of going to Gunhead Martial Arts, Ayaka perked up and said, “I was thinking of going there as well! I have been feeling particularly weak recently and wanted to change that.” I clutch the front of my uniform and grit my teeth, understanding that feeling all too well. She glances at me like she is asking my opinion, and I nod and squeeze her hand. Ayaka smiles that smile of hers and says, “Great, then let’s do the paperwork this afternoon.” I nod, and we do just that and have our afternoon classes.

After our afternoon classes, I went to Principal Nezu’s office with Ayaka and knocked. We hear him say, “Come in.” He is yet again sipping tea, and now I am questioning the size of his bladder. He asks, “What brings you here today?” I ask, “Is today a good day to teach you the basics of the technique we showed you?” Principal Nezu places his cup down and says, “Yes. We can go to the training grounds, which should be open since school is out of session now. Oh, let me message Cementoss so he can make those surfaces you mentioned.” He texts Cementoss, then he hops down from his chair adorably and almost disappears behind his desk, and we follow him to the training grounds. Cementoss was there when we arrived, and Principal Nezu told him to make several cement towers. In seconds, they were there, and Cementoss took his leave after being thanked by the principal.

When we were alone, Ayaka went to try and teach him, “First, you approach the wall and focus on your feet like this-” I put my hand up, “Ayaka, I love you, but let me take over.” She slumps, understanding why, and I approach the wall and say, while I gently squeeze her shoulder in passing, “The energy inside us was referred to as chakra. The ninja from the place we visited used this technique to walk on walls and ceilings by manipulating that energy in a constant flow to their feet. Like so.” I demonstrate and continue while standing on the wall, “Now, if you don’t have enough chakra collected at your feet, you won’t stick. If you have too much, you will leave a powerful indent in the surface you are trying to climb, like this-”

I demonstrate using too much so he can see the crater it leaves. Principal Nezu says, “Hmmmm. I understand. I think from here I just need to practice. Do you have any pointers?” I shake my head, “I started with one foot on the ground until I could feel it. Other than that, not really. The ninja who taught us recommended creating a clone of ourselves using this chakra stuff, but we obviously don’t know all of that.” Principal Nezu seems mind blown, “Wait, so you are saying that anyone with a quirk could, in theory, make clones of themselves?” We nod, and I say, “Technically, we should be able to walk on water, too, but that technique is slightly different from the wall-walking technique. We haven’t figured it out yet. Since I can’t swim, I will have to learn how to do that, so I won’t be useless in an aquatic environment.” Principal Nezu laughs, “Quirk education will never be the same again. Alright, children, thank you for the wonderful lesson. I will take it from here, so you can go ahead and go home. Safe travels.” We nod, and Ayaka shoots him that hero smile of hers and waves goodbye. I pick up my backpack and we leave holding hands.

Outside is pretty humid from the rain earlier today, and I groan. I teleport us quickly home so we can get inside in a comfortable environment. Inside, Mrs. Kubo was eating dinner with Mr. Kubo, and she said, “Perfect timing, the food is still warm.” We both sat down, and Mrs. Kubo and Mr. Kubo loaded up my plate with the cooked food in the middle of the table. Ayaka tells them of our day and how we chose hero names and decided on an internship. She left out the part where we taught the principal because we haven’t actually told them about learning anything new, besides our new abilities we got from those fruits. Though, like everyone else, they think we got them from being experimented on. I think she has tried to tell them, but had trouble doing so. I think I may be the reason she is holding some stuff back as a way of protecting me, even from her own parents.

After we eat, we shower together, and I ask her while we wash, “Am I the reason that you haven’t told your parents everything?” Ayaka sighs and says, “I figured that the fewest number of people who knew would make you safer. Even from my family.” I hug her and say, “I feel tons safe with your family. If you want to tell them the truth, it should be fine… I mean, as long as they don’t say anything.” Ayaka then says while we switch and she rinses the shampoo out of her hair, “Then how about we tell them together after this?” I nodded. Once the shampoo was rinsed from her hair, I couldn’t help but admire the view since she is so sexy with her dark purple hair clinging to her skin. She pulls me in for a very wet kiss as the shower’s water hits us from above.

After our shower, Mrs. Kubo was reading, and Mr. Kubo was watching TV. Ayaka nervously approaches, “Mom. Dad. Can we talk?” Mr. Kubo asks, while pausing what he was watching, “What's on your mind?” Ayaka says, “It's about when we were gone.” Their expressions went from a loving, carefree interest to a more serious, loving interest. We sit down with them, and I hold Ayaka's hand while she tells them basically everything. Mr. Kubo says, “It almost sounds unheard of to walk on walls unless it was a quirk. Yet, you are saying that everyone has the potential?” We nod and show him by walking on the walls and then the ceiling. Mrs. Kubo asks, “Would you be able to teach us?” We nod, and I tell them the concept behind it, but tell them NOT to try it now, and explain the crater thing to them. Mr. Kubo laughed, “Yes, I like my home NOT falling apart, thank you.”

We started our internships shortly after. We went to Gunhead Martial Arts, and he was pretty honest with us and told us, “I was originally only going to bring on one intern, but I had a vision of this one’s potential.” He says, pointing to me. I am confused, and he sees it, and he says, “I will show you how I mean during this internship. You will be so much stronger by the time you leave. Put on your hero suits and let’s jump in headfirst and go on patrol.” He says, flexing his muscles. We get changed and we go out on patrol. I don’t have a hero outfit yet, so I am just in my ninja clothes while Ayaka is wearing a trenchcoat and some full-body leotard underneath, and Uraraka is wearing a black and pink skin-tight outfit.

We get out and are walking on the sidewalk. Gunhead says, behind his mask, “The basic hero goal is to control crime, right?” We nod, and he continues, “Police contact us when a crime occurs. These requests come in simultaneously and are filtered by each district. We file reports on the services we provide, like rescues, arrests, et cetera. Then our work gets evaluated by a special agency that decides how much we should be paid. I am sure you three will catch on quickly.” As we are walking, Gunhead asks, “So what are your hero names?” Uraraka says, “I’m the gravity hero, Uravity.” Ayaka says, “I am the background-dimension hero, Flustrated.” I say after rolling the jawbreaker in my mouth to my cheek and nodding to Ayaka with my hands in my pockets, “I am Flustrated’s teleporting sidekick, Hops.” Gunhead gives a thumbs up, “Got it, you three. Whenever we are on patrol, make sure you give that name out, ok?” We nod and continue patrol.

After a while of showing us what to look out for on patrol, Gunhead has one of his sidekicks resume patrol while he takes us back to his agency. Inside his agency, he has a dojo, and he brought us in there with a few of his sidekicks. He started off by making us punch, and he says, “Every punch is important, and if you don’t have good form, then you can actually hurt yourself, which may, in turn, put innocents at risk. One injury can change the course of a fight. To punch correctly, make sure that your fist is perfectly aligned with the rest of your arm. If you have a little flexion like this-” He says, relaxing his fist to how I would normally punch and continues, “You run the risk of your fist making your wrist bend unnaturally backwards like so, which can lead to a sprain or a break.” He says, demonstrating by flexing his fist back towards his forearm.

He has us hold a punch out, and he shows us if we have it wrong by pushing back and making our wrists flex. After demonstrating why our previous form was bad personally, he adjusts each of our fists, and he pushes back. Our fists are sturdy in place, and he says, “That is how it should feel.” We nod understanding, and then he has us punch repeatedly until punching with the correct form becomes second nature. He says while we are punching, “Your basic physical strength is the most important thing. So be sure to exercise to build up your muscle mass.” He says that last part to me, and I nod awkwardly. I think I might have to ask Sato since he is the bulkiest dude in our class. He seems like he would be a knowledgeable person about gaining muscle.

We spent about half the week learning how to take down enemies who are unarmed while devoting some time to patrolling. Ayaka accidentally unlocked her Observation Haki here while trying to focus. Apparently, she subconsciously activated it while trying to defend against multiple opponents. She was dodging them with ease as if she could see exactly where they were going. She looked so amazing dodging them like that. She looked like a pro, barely breaking a sweat with a bunch of weaklings. I am actually a little jealous because I am having struggles with that Haki.

While we were training takedowns during the first half of the week, I was taught why he wanted me to learn under him. He told me to use my teleports to my advantage in combat and even worked with me on the timing. He had used mats to cushion the blow for his sidekicks playing the assailants. If I teleport too early, I won’t have the footing to get body rotation into the throws, and if I teleport too late, it makes it useless. In a few days, I finally had the timing down for these teleports, and I felt loads stronger. Or I guess a more competent sidekick would be more correct. He had Ayaka pull her opponents in 2D and had her learn to use her dimensions to her advantage, similar to me. She is now able to lure enemies onto a high wall or the ceiling and come out in 3D for a throw/takedown. Uraraka has gotten better as well.

It is late, and Gunhead was just about to release us, when Ayaka and Uraraka get a weird text that leaves them confused. I asked Ayaka, “What’s up?” She says, “I hope it is nothing, but Midoriya just sent his location and nothing else… That seems out of character for him. He normally has all of the details in his texts… too much if I am being honest.” I ask, “Where is the location?” She says, “Hosu.” I sigh, looking at her expression, and ask, “You want to go see if that nerd needs help, right?” She clenches her phone and nods. Uraraka seems worried, too, and asks, “I know you are going to teleport to get there faster since it is a 2-hour train commute. Would you be able to bring me along?”

I sigh and speak honestly, “The more people I teleport, the more my quirk is strained. We would be able to get there faster with just the two of us.” Uraraka nods and fist bumps Ayaka, “Take care of him for me.” Ayaka winks at her, “Don’t worry, I won’t let your boyfriend get hurt.” Uraraka gets really red and stammers, “I-i-it isn’t l-like t-that!” Ayaka giggles, “Oh, really? So if he got together with another girl, would you be fine with that?” She raises her voice, “Of course I wouldn’t!” She covers her mouth, and she is really red. Ayaka giggles, “There isn’t anything wrong with having feelings for someone. Alright, let us get going.” Uraraka nods while still blushing, and Ayaka and I hold hands, and we immediately start teleporting. Ayaka is pointing me in the right direction since I haven’t left Musutafu before. I teleport as far as I can for each one to limit how much I use my quirk, and we were able to make a 2-hour commute in a little under 5 minutes.

Hosu is in absolute chaos.

Ayaka guides me to where the nerd dropped the pin, and it is bad. There is a pro wounded, the nerd all beat up, Ida wounded and still on the ground, and Todoroki fighting with the nerd. Ayaka whispers to me, “Let’s get the pro to safety first, since he is most critical, and then let’s get help for our classmates.” I nod, and we teleport to the pro and immediately teleport out of there until we find more pros. Ayaka gets in her hero mode and talks to the pros, “This pro needs medical attention, and the Hero Killer is currently engaged in combat with two aspiring heroes who need professional assistance.” I see how she left out ‘UA’ and ‘students’ since our class has been in the center of attention recently. The hero that she approached says, while glancing at us momentarily, then continuing to throw ranged attacks at the brain creature, “We are a little busy fighting that brain thing.”

I tell the other heroes fighting the brain thing that reminds me of the birdbrain from the USJ, “When you see it disappear, run away!” They ask, “What do you mean?!” I don’t feel like explaining it, especially since the longer we waste talking, the more destruction and death it causes. I just teleport to the brain thing and then immediately teleport as high as I possibly can, keeping my contact with this multiple quirk monster to a minimum. Then I teleport immediately back to the ground and make sure that the others move, which they haven’t. I yell at them, “Hey, idiots! I said to move! I just sent him as high as I could, so unless you want to become a pancake, I suggest you get out of the fucking way!” They run away, and we all look up, and we all see the final descent of the brain Nomu thing, who is coming down with incredible speed. I would never have thought of something like this before our internship.

The creepy brain guy lands face-first into the ground, and it doesn’t seem to be moving anymore. The pros then ask, “Hey kid, can you do that for the other ones as well? There are others around the city. We will go check on those kids and the hero killer you told us about while you do that.” I nod and I tell Ayaka, “I’ll meet you back at that alleyway soon, ok?” She nods, and then she guides the pros to our classmates while I go deal with the other brain things. I run into the flying one first, and I remember Sir Floof has a quirk we can use. I let him out and I asked him, “If I teleport us close, can you use your ‘swift’ quirk on that flying brain thing?” Sir Floof nods and chirps adorably.

I pick him up, teleport mid-air, and Sir Floof uses his quirk, which summons a bunch of yellow stars that shoot the brain dude, but it doesn't seem to do much in terms of damage, though the brain dude does take notice of us temporarily. If it did any kind of damage, it probably healed or something. I immediately teleport us down, effectively losing it, and I tell Sir, “Thanks, but I think we may need help with that one.” Sir Floof droops a bit, and I pet him on the head, “Shhh. You did amazing. Those things are just really strong, so don't feel down. You did more than I could in that situation, so be proud.” He rubs against me, and I put him back in his pokeball. I continue looking for other of those brain things to try and find more non-flying ones, and I run into that flaming bastard fighting a black brain creep. I yell at him, “Get out of the way, you flaming bastard!” I teleport the creepy brain thing high up, and I teleport back down and clear the area, “Back up, you idiots, before you get flattened! That thing will be coming down hard!” That flaming bastard says with that stern, intimidating tone of his, “You don’t have your provisional license yet, kid, but I will make an exception during this emergency since Shoto is also fighting.”

I turn to the flaming bastard, “Tsk. Hey, you. Why don’t you take care of the one that I can’t? I can’t kill that flying one like this, obviously… Oh, and when you are done, go eat a bag of dicks.” He smacks his teeth, “Tsk. You damn brat… Fine. Head to Ekou street 4-2-10 when you are done, my son said to send help there.” He uses his flames to fly up to the flying one and fight him, and I make sure that this brain guy coming down shortly will stay down before I go back to Ayaka’s side. It took teleporting this black one several times before it landed on its head and stopped moving, resulting in the loss of 2-3 minutes. Each crash left a crater in the street. Though the damage from me was nothing in comparison to what the brain things caused. I tried to keep it in one spot to prevent too much damage. Ekou 4-2-10 was where Ayaka said the pin was. I started teleporting there, and the moment I arrived, the flying one grabbed the nerd while the flaming bastard was going after him, aiming for its head, but it maneuvered out of the way with its agility.

I look around until I see Ayaka in her trenchcoat from my rooftop vantage point, and when I finally see her next to the class rep and Two-toned. I teleport to her, and she jumps, “Shit, Sekai, you startled me.” I say, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to.” I wanted to be close to her in case I needed to get her out of here quickly. Since shit seems to be devolving around us. I hold her hand tightly as we watch the next moments that felt like an eternity, but in reality were only a moment.

That bastard was able to wound the brain thing on the way here, it seems, and it dripped blood on one of the heroes, and the Hero Killer uses his absurdly long tongue to lick her face to make the brain thing fall from the sky, and Endeavor jumps at the opportunity to jam a fire lance into the thing's head. Endeavor then turns to face the Hero Killer, who says, pointing his knife at Endeavor, “You false hero! These streets must be painted red with the blood of you hypocrites! I will reclaim the word, ‘HERO’! You fakes! Just try and stop me! I’ll let only one man kill me, who is a true hero! ALL MIGHT IS WORTHY!” He dropped his knife after he said that and froze in place while still standing. The flaming bastard says, “I think that he is out cold.” That Hero Killer's words are powerful and touch all of our souls with his charisma and authenticity. We all stood there for a moment, unable to move, watching him stand straight up while unconscious, for what he thinks is right.
