The doorway stood open.

Beyond it was complete darkness.

“The Observer’s Archive.”

Aarav stood beside her.

“Your mother could be in there.”

Aanya nodded.

“Then I’m going.”

The old woman stepped forward.

“You don’t understand what you’re entering.”

Aanya looked at her.

“Then explain.”

“The Archive doesn’t store books.”

Aarav frowned.

“Then what?”

“People.”

Aanya’s expression changed.

“People?”

“Memories of people.”

She pointed toward the darkness.

“Every person the Observer has ever watched is recorded there.”

Aarav looked at Aanya.

“Then your mother could have left a memory behind.”

“Or she could still be there.”

The old woman didn’t answer.

Aanya took a breath.

“Either way, we’re going.”

They stepped through the doorway.

The darkness disappeared.

A huge circular chamber appeared before them.

Thousands of glass cylinders covered the walls.

Each one contained a faint silver light.

Aanya walked closer.

“What are those?”

Aarav examined one.

There was a name engraved beneath it.

ELIAS.

Aanya froze.

“Elias?”

She touched the glass.

The light inside immediately brightened.

A voice echoed through the chamber.

“MEMORY ACCESS: RESTRICTED.”

Aanya pulled her hand away.

Aarav looked around.

“Why would Elias have a file here?”

“Maybe he knew about Nightfall.”

Aanya looked at the other cylinders.

Then she saw another name.

KIERAN.

And another.

LYRA.

Aanya’s eyes widened.

“Everyone.”

Aarav nodded.

“Everyone we’ve ever trusted.”

They walked deeper into the Archive.

More names appeared.

Students.

Professors.

Founders.

Researchers.

Some names were centuries old.

Others were recent.

Then Aanya stopped.

One cylinder was completely black.

There was no silver light inside.

AANYA RAVEN.

Her breath caught.

Aarav looked at it.

“Why is yours different?”

Aanya stepped closer.

“I don’t know.”

The moment she touched the glass— the entire Archive went silent.

Every light disappeared.

Aanya froze.

Then a single voice spoke.

Not the Heart.

Not the Echo.

Not her mother.

The Observer.

“YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE COME HERE.”

Aanya looked around.

“Where are you?”

No answer.

Aarav stepped beside her.

“Show yourself.”

The voice returned.

“I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOU FOR A LONG TIME.”

Aanya’s heart raced.

“Why?”

“BECAUSE YOU WERE NEVER MEANT TO REMEMBER.”

She clenched her fists.

“Where is my mother?”

Silence.

Then— one cylinder at the far end of the chamber lit up.

Aanya ran toward it.

A name appeared.

MIRA RAVEN.

Her mother.

Aanya stopped.

Inside the cylinder was a glowing memory.

Her mother was sitting in a dark room.

Older than the last recording.

Tired.

But alive.

Aanya whispered:

“Mum.”

Her mother’s eyes suddenly lifted.

She looked directly toward Aanya.

Even though it was only a memory.

“You’re here.”

Aanya’s eyes filled with tears.

“Can you hear me?”

The memory smiled faintly.

“No.”

Aanya’s heart sank.

“But if you’re seeing this…”

Her mother looked toward something outside the frame.

“…then the Observer has failed.”

Aarav stepped closer.

“What did you leave here?”

Mira looked directly toward him.

“The shield.”

Aarav froze.

“Me?”

She nodded.

“Your memories were never erased completely.”

Aarav looked confused.

“Then where are they?”

“Inside Aanya.”

Aanya’s eyes widened.

“What?”

Mira continued.

“When Nightfall separated you, the memories had to go somewhere.”

Aarav looked at Aanya.

“You’ve been carrying my memories?”

“Some of them.”

Mira nodded.

“And you’ve been carrying hers.”

Aanya stared at Aarav.

Suddenly, dozens of memories flashed through her mind.

Aarav’s childhood.

His first day at Ravenhall.

His fears.

His happiest moments.

Things she had never experienced herself.

She staggered.

Aarav caught her.

“Aanya!”

She looked at him.

“I can remember you.”

He stared at her.

“What?”

“Not just our memories.”

She touched her temple.

“Your memories.”

The Archive began shaking.

Mira’s expression changed.

“There’s no time.”

Aanya looked toward the memory.

“For what?”

“You have to find the original Observer.”

Aarav frowned.

“I thought the Observer was a person.”

Mira shook her head.

“No.”

The lights throughout the Archive turned red.

“It was never a person.”

Aanya’s heart began pounding.

“Then what is it?”

Mira looked directly at her daughter.

“The first memory Ravenhall ever created.”

The recording flickered.

The Observer’s voice returned.

“MIRA.”

Her mother’s face became frightened.

Aanya stepped forward.

“Mum!”

Mira looked at her one final time.

“Whatever happens…”

She smiled sadly.

“…don’t let it choose your future.”

The memory vanished.

The Archive went completely dark.

Then— a door appeared behind Aanya and Aarav.

Above it was a single word:

ORIGIN.

Aarav looked at Aanya.

“Ready?”

She took his hand.

“No.”

He smiled.

“Me neither.”

Together, they opened the door.

And somewhere beyond it— the first memory of Ravenhall was waiting.
