Before long, the brothel madam escorted about ten girls into the room. Bai Mo took one look at them and dismissed them immediately. They were simply too gaudy; not a single one of them could match even a finger of Jun Wuye’s beauty. Furthermore, they had filled his room with the cloying, unpleasant scent of cheap makeup and powder.
“Is Young Master unsatisfied with all of them? In that case, I shall have the other girls come over.”
The madam could tell from his attire that this young master was a man of wealth. It wasn’t easy to secure such a major customer, and the girls were more than willing to serve him. She had no intention of missing out on a golden opportunity to make a hefty profit.
Bai Mo waved his hands hastily. “No need. Just bring me every single delicious dish you have here.”
When those women had piled in earlier, he felt as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. He had no desire to subject himself to that torment again.
Slipping out his purse, Bai Mo poured all the silver inside onto the table before him. “Is this enough to have your best food sent up to me?”
Although Mo Luo’an was overbearing and controlled too many things, he was actually quite generous with money.
Looking at the silver ingots on the table, the madam’s eyes crinkled with greed. “Enough, quite enough! Young Master, this humble servant will have the servants bring it up immediately.” As she spoke, she stepped forward and swept the silver ingots into her sleeves.
Bai Mo had not expected to eat Dongpo pork and braised pig’s trotter here. Although the flavor was different from his previous life, it possessed its own unique charm.
The balance of fat and lean on the Dongpo pork was just right, leaving the meat tender, melt-in-the-mouth, and not greasy at all. Bai Mo stuffed a piece of Dongpo pork into his mouth with every bite, a massive pig’s trotter clutched firmly in his other hand.
“Hurry, hurry! Don’t let it escape!”
“Over there, over there! Quick, corner it!”
Hearing frantic shouts from outside, Bai Mo walked to the window and looked down. He saw several men carrying capturing tools chasing a little white wolf. A wolf?
Bai Mo looked closer to double-check. Oh! That wasn’t a wolf, it was a fox! He adored foxes too. Now, completely disregarding the meat, he leapt out of the window, landing on the opposite roof. With a few swift bounds, he arrived right in front of the white fox, blocking its path while waving his hands.
“Look at me, look at me!”
The white fox actually halted its steps. After eyeing Bai Mo for a moment, it walked over with tentative, cautious steps.
Just a moment ago, Bai Mo hadn’t been sure if he would still attract small animals after changing into this body. It turned out to be the superiority of his soul!
But why hadn’t he enjoyed such good fortune during his past ninety-nine lifetimes? If he had, he wouldn’t have starved so often back then.
As the white fox reached his feet, it even rubbed its head affectionately against his trouser leg. Bai Mo squatted down, reaching out to stroke the adorable creature. Realizing he was still holding a massive pig’s trotter, he held it out to the white fox.
“Do you want some?”
The white fox glanced at the trotter in his hand, then stared intently at his face. As the approaching footsteps from behind drew near, it suddenly dove straight into his embrace, nearly knocking him over.
Seeing the fox acting so close to the young man, Fan Jian asked, “Is this fox yours?”
Standing up, Bai Mo sized up the newcomer. “Yes, it is mine.”
“Ah~ How did you let it escape into the mountains outside? I thought it was a wild creature and intended to catch it to raise myself,” Fan Jian said with a sigh of regret.
He had gone out hunting today and chanced upon this white fox. It reminded him of a white fox their Sovereign used to keep, which had unfortunately passed away. He still remembered how heartbroken the Sovereign had been for days. Seeing this fox, his first instinct had been to catch it as a tribute to their Sovereign. Sizing up the white fox in Bai Mo’s arms once more, he praised, “You’ve raised this fox exceptionally well.”
Gazing down at the little creature curled up in his chest, Bai Mo thought about how it would probably yield a nice pot of stew if brought back. Swallowing his saliva, he nodded. “Yes, it is indeed plump, sturdy, and has a sleek, glossy coat.”
The white fox, completely unaware that it had walked straight into a tiger’s den, believed it had been saved. Seeing Bai Mo look down, it rubbed its head against him once more.
Fan Jian studied Bai Mo. “You aren’t a local resident, are you? I haven’t seen you around before.”
“Yes, I came here to travel a few days ago. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to do around here,” Bai Mo replied, taking another bite of the pig’s trotter.
Fan Jian noticed the food in Bai Mo’s hand. “Is that Lichun Brothel’s braised trotter with preserved mustard greens?”
“Oh! An expert!” Bai Mo took a proper look at Fan Jian. The youth appeared to be around seventeen or eighteen, slightly younger than his current self. To think he was already visiting brothels at such a young age, tsk tsk tsk, what poor upbringing.
Fan Jian rubbed the back of his head, speaking with some embarrassment, “Their food is delicious, so I visit often. Also, there’s a farmhouse in the suburbs that makes amazing roasted lamb legs.”
At the mention of food, Bai Mo instantly perked up. “Really? Which manor is it at?”
“It’s less than twenty miles from here,” Fan Jian looked up at the sky. It was already nearing dusk, and it would probably be too late to head there today. “Where are you staying? I’ll come find you tomorrow and take you there.”
Bai Mo slung an arm over Fan Jian’s shoulder in a brotherly fashion. Tutu was fast asleep, and he happened to be lacking a guide. “Sounds good, brother! That’s very decent of you. I’m staying at the inn at the eastern entrance of the town. Tomorrow’s meal is on me! By the way, I’m Bai Mo. What’s your name?”
“Brother Bai, I am Fan Jian. My home is nearby, so I’m very familiar with this area. If there’s anything you wish to know, just ask,” Fan Jian replied happily. Since someone was offering to treat him to a meal, he was delighted. Lately, his father had been keeping a tight rein on him, confiscating all his allowance, to the point that he had resorted to hunting just to satisfy his cravings.
“It is rare for the two of us to get along so well. Come, brother, I ordered a whole table of dishes at Lichun Brothel. Let’s go eat to our hearts’ content.” In truth, he couldn’t finish that massive spread of food alone, and there were some dishes he didn’t particularly care for. Having a cleanup crew arrive was perfect.
Mo Luo’an knocked and entered the room. Finding Bai Mo absent, and having just come from Jun Wuye’s place, he wondered where the man had run off to now that night was falling. He truly had endless things to worry about.
Summoning his subordinates, he learned that Bai Mo had actually dared to use Chu Yan’s body to visit a brothel. He had completely disregarded his warnings.
Fuming with rage, he didn’t even bother with the door and flew straight out of the window.
When two foodies like Bai Mo and Fan Jian crossed paths, they truly felt like old friends at first sight. The two sat together, eating and chatting, while the white fox lay beside Bai Mo, happily munching on the meat he fed it.
CRASH–
Hearing the noise, Bai Mo turned toward the window, only to see Mo Luo’an, with a dark and ominous face, throwing a palm strike straight at him. Bai Mo twisted his body to dodge.
BOOM–
“Ow~! Ahhh, Mo Luo’an! A gentleman uses his mouth, not his fists! Watch out, or I’ll lose my temper with you!”
Looking at the table that had been split cleanly in two, Bai Mo rejoiced that he was finally able to harness some of this body’s cultivation. Otherwise, a palm strike of this caliber would have left him bedridden for at least half a month.
Seeing an intruder burst in, Fan Jian and his companions immediately stood up to strike. However, they noticed that the newcomer did not seem to be looking for a lethal fight; otherwise, that palm strike wouldn’t have been intentionally aimed at the table.
Mo Luo’an was absolutely livid. Under normal circumstances, he preferred not to resort to violence unless he could no longer contain himself. Seeing that this man still failed to recognize his mistake, he found it completely intolerable.
“Bai Mo, do you still remember what I told you? I said you were not permitted to visit such places, yet you insisted.”
Before he could finish his sentence, he lunged at Bai Mo again. From a distance, he had just witnessed this man acting intimately with that youth, the boy’s face had practically been pressed against his.
