After Bai Mo caught Mo Luo’an, his eyes immediately darted to Jun Wuye. Seeing the man’s face completely devoid of color and with blood still staining his lips, an inexplicable wave of panic surged within him.
“Is he, is he going to be okay?”
Did the detoxification fail? Surely this man isn’t going to die just like this, right?
Mo Luo’an shook his head. “His poison has been neutralized. He is merely weak right now. Pass me the strips of cloth and the medicine on the table over there, and I will bandage him up.”
Only then did Bai Mo notice that Jun Wuye’s wrist was still bleeding, and a large patch of the ground had already been stained red. “Oh, oh, right!” He let Mo Luo’an lean against the bathtub, spun around in a hurry, grabbed the cloth and medicine from the table, and handed them over.
Looking at the cut on Jun Wuye’s wrist, Bai Mo felt his skin crawl. Good heavens, that must hurt terribly!
Seeing that Mo Luo’an had finished bandaging Jun Wuye, Bai Mo said, “Luo’an, let me help you back to your room to rest.”
Mo Luo’an nodded. “Yes.” He indeed needed to regulate his breath and recover.
Bai Mo supported Mo Luo’an as they walked out, chattering along the way, “See? Aren’t I actually pretty useful?”
Inside the room, Jun Wuye wanted to get up when he saw everyone leave. However, his entire body lacked strength, and he collapsed back down. This brief effort made his vision blur and his mind grow hazy. If his body had not felt lighter, he would have believed the poison had not been neutralized but had instead worsened.
After Bai Mo helped Mo Luo’an back to his room and was about to return to Jun Wuye’s quarters, several masked men in black suddenly leaped out in front of him.
Bai Mo cried out, “Ah! Assassins! Help, quickly!”
An assassin thrust his sword straight at Bai Mo.
Pivoting on his left toe, Bai Mo executed a spinning dodge to evade the oncoming killing intent.
The sounds of fighting startled the other guests in the inn. In an instant, panic erupted throughout the building as people rushed into their rooms and locked their doors tight.
Seeing an assassin heading toward Jun Wuye’s room, Bai Mo dashed forward, grabbed a nearby chair, and hurled it at the assailant.
The assassin was highly trained, and the chair did not cause him any harm.
At that moment, hearing Bai Mo’s cries, Mo Xiao leaped down from the upper floor with his men. They intercepted the remaining assassins from behind, and a chaotic battle ensued.
Bai Mo knew he was no match for these assassins, but his dodging skills were decent enough. However, after a few exchanges, he found himself struggling to hold his ground. Realizing these people were after Jun Wuye, he slipped into the room, slammed the door shut, and dragged a nearby rack to barricade it. He then hurriedly grabbed a robe from the rack, scooped the unconscious Jun Wuye out of the water, and hastily wrapped him up in the clothes.
Just then, the assassin broke through the door.
Bai Mo slung the man over his shoulder and ran toward the window. As he ran, he tried to wake the person on his back. “Jun Wuye, wake up! The people who want you dead are here!”
He leaped out of the window. Seeing that there were also assassins fighting in the courtyard, and with the assassin behind him jumping down in pursuit, Bai Mo lightly tapped his left foot against the ground and soared into the air. However, because he had only learned this skill the previous night, his internal breath was unstable. Before he could even fly out of the inn’s courtyard, he began to plunge back down.
“Ah! No!”
Bai Mo thought he was about to fall right into the hands of the assassins, but fortunately, he landed on the courtyard wall. He nearly lost his footing and fell, but after wobbling a few times, he managed to stand steady. Patting his chest, he gasped, “Whew! Scared me to death. Thank goodness, thank goodness.”
The assassin flew up after him, thrusting his sword straight toward Bai Mo.
“Ah! Don’t mess with me! Watch out, or I’ll unleash my ultimate move!” Bai Mo screamed while dodging. “Even I am terrified of myself when I unleash my ultimate move!”
Because he was carrying a grown man, Bai Mo was not as agile as before. His arm was accidentally sliced by the sword. Seeing the man leveling the blade to stab him again, and realizing he could not dodge it this time, a sudden thought flashed through his mind. He looked up at the sky and roared, “I want to overturn this sky!”
Crackle!
Boom!
A bolt of lightning cascaded down from the heavens, striking toward the spot where Bai Mo stood.
Bai Mo gathered his strength and dodged just in time. The lightning struck the assassin who was charging at him.
The courtyard wall was blasted into ruins, and the assassin was instantly charred to a crisp, collapsing into the rubble with black smoke still rising from his mouth.
Bai Mo glanced at the struck-dead assassin. “I told you not to mess with me, but you wouldn’t listen.”
He then looked up at the sky. The sky was clear for miles, showing no trace of a thunderstorm. “I didn’t expect you to actually be so useful.”
“What… what are you doing now?” Jun Wuye, startled awake by the loud clap of thunder, looked down at the ground. Why was he being carried on someone’s shoulder? He squirmed a little, wanting to be put down, as being draped like this was highly uncomfortable.
Hearing Jun Wuye’s weak voice, Bai Mo’s tense nerves finally relaxed. “You’re awake! Assassins came to kill you, and I saved you again. Oh, stop squirming.” Having said that, he even patted Jun Wuye on the backside.
Jun Wuye was speechless. If he only had the strength, he would have chopped off the hand that touched him.
The sudden thunderclap had caused everyone fighting in the courtyard to halt. Both sides turned as one to look at Bai Mo, taking a moment to recover their senses. The assassins’ morale was significantly shaken, intimidated by the lightning Bai Mo had just summoned.
As Fan Jian walked into the inn Bai Mo had mentioned, he saw Bai Mo and the others fighting a group of assassins. He rolled up his sleeves and charged in. “Brother Bai, I’m here to help you!”
With Fan Jian joining the fray, and because the assassins seemed to hold back their strikes against him, Mo Xiao and his men managed to subdue all the attackers in no time.
Once captured, these assassins immediately bit their tongues to commit suicide. Fortunately, Mo Xiao moved quickly enough to clamp one assassin’s jaw shut, preventing him from dying.
Looking at the corpses littering the ground, Bai Mo said, “Isn’t it good to be alive? Why must you seek death?”
“They were captured by you, so they aren’t far from death anyway. Committing suicide saves them from torture. They are quite clever,” Fan Jian said, kicking a corpse near his foot.
“Where there is life, there is hope, right?” Bai Mo remarked, deliberately casting a glance at the surviving assassin.
“Are you still not going to put me down?” Jun Wuye spoke with exasperated anger. As the dignified leader of a sect, how could he establish authority in the future if he was carried around like a sack of rice?
“Oh, right! Hey, take it easy, let me support you.” Bai Mo set Jun Wuye down, and seeing him sway, reached out to support him.
Fan Jian had seen Bai Mo carrying someone earlier, but because the person’s face had been pressed against Bai Mo’s chest, he had not been able to see his features clearly, only finding the figure somewhat familiar. Now that the man stood upright and revealed his cold, handsome face, Fan Jian broke into a cold sweat of sheer panic.
Fan Jian hurriedly bowed in salute. “Sect-”
“Your matter will be dealt with later. Scram to the side for now,” Jun Wuye said. Though he was still very weak, his deep, sharp eyes paired with his chilling voice still carried a powerful dread.
Fan Jian could only shut his mouth obediently and retreat to the side.
Jun Wuye pushed Bai Mo away and glanced at Mo Xiao. Mo Luo’an could not have come here alone; Jun Wuye had sensed this earlier, which was why he had not summoned his nearby subordinates for protection. He just had not expected this guard’s skills to be so formidable. He wondered who was stronger between him and Qin Hao.
