Du Yuwei ruthlessly shattered He Yi’s beautiful fantasy. She pointed to the camera on the ceiling and asked He Yi, “See that? It’s recording. Even if I don’t say anything, the boss will know you ran away.”
He Yi immediately wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, pouting and whining, “But I really want to go out and play!”
He looked rather pitiful, and even Du Yuwei felt a little soft-hearted, but she still stuck to her principles and said in a serious tone, “The boss has to agree first, otherwise I can’t take you out.”
He Yi slumped into the sofa, muttering dejectedly, “But my husband is in a meeting, and I can’t disturb him. By the time he gets back, I’ll be starving.”
Du Yuwei had a good impression of He Yi, and couldn’t bear to see He Yi looking so pitiful, so she tried sending a message to Shang Jingwu, asking if she could show He Yi around the company.
Shang Jingwu had always felt that He Yi wouldn’t stay obediently in his office. Only after confirming that He Yi hadn’t caused any trouble for the time being did he agree to let Du Yuwei take He Yi out for a walk, but they couldn’t leave the company building.
Once He Yi received the pardon, he started running around like crazy as soon as he stepped out of the office. In the blink of an eye, he had run quite a distance, and Du Yuwei, who was wearing high heels, almost couldn’t keep up. If He Yi hadn’t gotten lost and run back to find her, she might have lost him altogether.
”Slow down, or I won’t look for you if you get lost,” Du Yuwei threatened anxiously, panting.
If she really loses track of him, and something happens to He Yi, the boss will definitely use her as a sacrifice.
Seeing that Du Yuwei was angry, He Yi quickly put on a well-behaved look and said, “I won’t run around anymore, pretty sister, please don’t leave me behind.”
Du Yuwei finally breathed a sigh of relief. She understood why the boss hadn’t let He Yi go out. When this kid got crazy, he was like a wild horse that had broken free of its reins, impossible to control.
Afraid of getting lost, He Yi suppressed his wildness and followed Du Yuwei around the company.
As they strolled around, they encountered several employees. Seeing that Assistant Du was accompanied by a young and handsome boy, they couldn’t help but gossip. Some even went directly to ask Du Yuwei who this handsome young man was.
Du Yuwei wasn’t sure if Shang Jingwu wanted others to know He Yi’s identity, so to be on the safe side, she gave the person a vague answer.
When the employees saw that she didn’t give a direct answer, they turned around and started whispering about whether Assistant Du had brought her mistress to the company. Then someone mentioned the row of teeth marks on President Shang’s hand and joked that this was a case of the superiors setting an example for the subordinates.
He Yi was unaware that he was being kept or cheated on. He happily strolled through several floors, then suddenly said he was thirsty and asked for a drink. Du Yuwei bought him a Coke from a vending machine near the tea room.
He Yi finished his drink in one gulp, then said anxiously, “Pretty sister, where is the toilet? I need to use the toilet.”
Seeing that he looked extremely anxious, Du Yuwei had no choice but to take him to the nearest public restroom and wait for him outside. However, he didn’t come out no matter how long she waited.
After He Yi rushed into the bathroom, he had just unzipped his pants to urinate when he heard someone say to him, “Little sister-in-law, what are you doing here?”
Turning his head, He Yi saw Shang Jingyun staring at him with a smile. Remembering Shang Jingwu’s words, He Yi quickly pulled up his pants and ran into the stall. But when he came out after urinating, he found that Shang Jingyun was still there.
”Why are you avoiding me, sister-in-law?” Shang Jingyun asked, putting on a slightly aggrieved expression.
He Yi reached out and made a zipping motion in front of his mouth, then took two steps back to distance himself from Shang Jingyun.
”What does this mean, sister-in-law? Do you dislike me and therefore don’t want to talk to me?” Shang Jingyun’s tone was tinged with melancholy.
He Yi quickly shook his head. He didn’t dislike Shang Jingyun, but his husband had told him to stay away from this younger brother, and he had agreed. He couldn’t go back on his word.
Shang Jingyun, however, seemed not to understand his meaning and said sadly, “I know, you all hate me.”
”No! I don’t dislike you,” He Yi explained somewhat anxiously.
”Then why are you avoiding me? You wouldn’t even talk to me just now. Are you blaming me for not jumping down to save you sooner yesterday?” Shang Jingyun asked innocently.
“I don’t blame you, but my husband said you’re a very good swimmer, is that true?” He Yi asked doubtfully.
Shang Jingyun gave a bitter smile. “Yes, I’m a very good swimmer. But has my older cousin ever told you how I learned to swim?”
He Yi shook his head and said, “My husband didn’t tell me how you learned it?”
”I learned how to do it when my stepmother pushed me into that pond and I was about to drown. That’s why I have a psychological aversion to that pond. It’s my fault for not reacting in time when I saw you fall in. It caused my sister-in-law to choke on water, and it’s only right that my older cousin blames me,” Shang Jingyun said remorsefully.
He Yi’s eyes widened in surprise. “Your stepmother pushed you? Does my husband know?”
Shang Jingyun did not answer directly, but said, “There’s nothing my eldest cousin can’t find out.”
He Yi thought for a while before he roughly understood the meaning of the sentence. Then he defended Shang Jingwu and said, “But my husband is too busy with work. Maybe he didn’t ask anyone to check, so he really doesn’t know.”
Before Shang Jingyun could retort, he angrily said, “I’m going to tell my husband to help you get revenge and push your stepmother down to drink dirty water too!”
Shang Jingyun laughed and stopped him, saying, “Thank you, sister-in-law, but it’s no need. That happened many years ago. If my dad finds out that I told my older cousin and that his wife fell into the water, he’ll definitely beat and scold me again.”
”Does second uncle often beat you?” He Yi asked angrily.
”Having a stepmother means having a stepfather, haven’t you heard that saying, sister-in-law? My dad only has eyes for his wife and their precious youngest son. I’m just superfluous in this family,” Shang Jingyun said with self-pity.
”Second Uncle and his accomplices are so mean! I’ll have my husband beat them up for you and get revenge!” He Yi said, heading to complain to Shang Jingwu.
Shang Jingyun hurriedly grabbed his arm, “No need, really no need, thank you, sister-in-law. But how could I trouble my older cousin with this? He’s already tired enough from work. Besides, even if he helped me get revenge, my dad would only dislike me more. Furthermore, my dad is an elder, and it’s inconvenient for my older cousin to lay a hand on him, otherwise Grandpa would be angry.”
He Yi was a little confused by what he said. After thinking for a long time, his eyes lit up and he suggested, “Then let’s go find Grandpa. You can tell Grandpa how second uncle and the others bullied you and let Grandpa get revenge for you.”
Shang Jingyun said with difficulty, “That won’t do either. Grandpa’s health isn’t good, so he can’t get angry. If he gets angry and his condition worsens, I’ll feel very guilty.”
”What should we do then?” He Yi asked, distressed.
Shang Jingyun smiled and said, “I’m fine. As long as you don’t avoid me, just come and talk to me when you have time.”
He Yi did not agree immediately because he had already promised his husband that he would stay away from his younger brother. Even if his husband had a misunderstanding about his younger brother, he would wait until the misunderstanding was cleared up and his husband took back his previous words before he could agree to his younger brother’s request.
He was feeling a bit awkward when he suddenly heard Du Yuwei calling him from outside. He quickly replied loudly, “I’m here! Pretty sister, I’ll be right out.”
Then he hurriedly said to Shang Jingyun, “The pretty sister is calling me, I have to go now, goodbye little brother.”
Shang Jingyun smiled and said, “I’m going out too. By the way, who is that pretty lady my sister-in-law was talking about?”
“It’s a pretty older sister, a very pretty older sister,” He Yi replied.
Shang Jingyun followed He Yi out of the restroom and saw Du Yuwei waiting outside. He raised an eyebrow slightly, smiled, and walked over to greet her, saying, “Oh, it’s Assistant Du. I thought you had your eye on some beautiful lady.”
Du Yuwei was somewhat surprised to see him come out with He Yi. Upon hearing Shang Jingyun’s words, she quickly denied it, saying, “Young Master Shang, please don’t joke around. If Madam really took a fancy to me, the boss would probably chop me up and throw me into the sea to feed the sharks.”
”How could that be? Assistant Du is so beautiful, my eldest cousin would definitely not want to part with her,” Shang Jingyun said with a smile.
Du Yuwei smiled and said, “Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Shang. But as you know, no matter how beautiful someone is, if they make a mistake, the boss will deal with them without any mercy. So please don’t make such jokes anymore.”
The two chatted for a few more minutes, and He Yi was getting dizzy listening to them. Finally, he couldn’t help but interject and ask, “Pretty sister, when are we going to get something to eat?”
”I’ll take you there now,” Du Yuwei replied.
Then she politely said goodbye to Shang Jingyun and led He Yi back to Shang Jingwu’s office.
The desserts and milk tea had been bought, along with a box of cut fruit. Although He Yi couldn’t go out to play, he forgot everything else as soon as he saw the delicious food and happily rushed over to start eating.
When Shang Jingwu returned from the meeting, he saw He Yi eating like a little kitten, with cream smeared all over half of his face and his hands looking like a mess.
Du Yuwei worked for a while to make sure he didn’t get his clothes dirty.
When He Yi saw Shang Jingwu, he looked up from the small cake, his eyes sparkling, and rushed over to ask, “Honey, are you done with your meeting?”
Shang Jingwu frowned and slapped away the hand that was resting on the edge of the wheelchair, saying with disdain, “Wipe it clean before you touch it.”
Du Yuwei quickly handed over two wet wipes. He Yi wiped his hands carelessly, then suddenly leaned over and gave Shang Jingwu a quick kiss on the lips. After the kiss, he smiled and said, “Honey, I was thinking about you just now.”
Du Yuwei was caught off guard by this scene, and she tactfully went out, even considerately closing the door for them.
With cream smeared all over his face, Shang Jingwu angrily said, “Wipe your face clean too!”
He Yi looked around but couldn’t find the wet wipes he had just used. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his face haphazardly. Then he leaned over again, stuck out his tongue, and licked the bit of cream off Shang Jingwu’s lips. He smiled and said, “Honey, your lips are sweet!”
Shang Jingwu pursed his lips and said irritably, “Get lost.”
He Yi then threw himself onto the sofa and rolled around, saying, “Honey, I’m done rolling around. You can’t be angry with me anymore.”
Shang Jingwu went over and pinched his face, ordering, “Stop fooling around.”
He Yi grunted as he was pinched, then frowned and grumbled, “Okay, I know.”
