In the Demon Realm, the Demon Emperor, who had spent the better part of the last millennium in a deep slumber, was awakened by an unusual and sharp pain in his body.
Inside an ice coffin, a man in red robes, cradling a cold corpse, slowly sat up. His sleep-blurred eyes were filled with confusion as he touched the shoulder on his left side.
There was no wound, yet it ached intensely.
With his thin lips pressed into a tight line, he leaned down to give the ice-cold body a light kiss. He then placed the corpse back into the coffin, stood up slowly, and began to pace unhurriedly toward the exit.
“Greetings to the Demon Emperor!”
The handmaiden guarding the door caught sight of him and hurriedly knelt to pay her respects.
He waved a hand dismissively and continued his slow, languid stroll. He had barely taken two steps when his legs buckled, and he collapsed to the ground.
“Demon Emperor!”
The handmaiden cried out in alarm and rushed over to support him.
“My Lord… my knee hurts a little.”
Mo Siye pursed his beautiful, thin lips, his tone filled with a sense of grievance.
“Are you injured, My Lord?” the handmaiden asked, her eyes wide with worry.
He shook his head. Since the last time he had a massive brawl with that dog, Wen Muli, he had been in a deep sleep for nearly half a year. He hadn’t been anywhere, so how could he possibly be injured?
“Let me take you to the Ghost Physician to have a look.”
Anxious, the handmaiden helped him brace his body to stand, and they began to walk slowly forward.
They hadn’t gone more than a few steps when they both heard a crisp crack.
Both of them froze as if they had seen a ghost, looking down at the same time.
“Demon Emperor… have you been possessed by a ghost?” the handmaiden asked in a low voice, gulping hard.
Mo Siye pulled the corners of his mouth into a wry, joyless smile. His eyes were heavy with seriousness as he whispered, “It hurts so much. I suspect it’s broken—and someone stepped on it.”
The handmaiden: “…”
A quarter of an hour later, they arrived at the Ghost Physician’s dwelling.
“It’s been half a year, and you’re still so ‘bony’,” Mo Siye remarked, his thin lips curving upward to tease the Ghost Physician, whose frame looked much like a skeleton.
“What the hell do you know? ‘Bony’ beauty is the trend of this era! This is called being at the forefront of fashion and the pinnacle of trends! You don’t visit the temple without a reason speak if you have something to say, and be quick about it.”
The Ghost Physician rolled his eyes, looking thoroughly impatient.
“The Demon Emperor has been possessed by a ghost!” the little handmaiden shouted, her face pale with terror.
What on earth?
That’s absolute nonsense.
They were demons! How could they possibly be afraid of ghosts? Furthermore, the Demon Emperor’s constitution was pure Yang a “Dragon-Yang” body which naturally repelled evil spirits. Ghosts couldn’t even get near him.
“I really am possessed by a ghost. Here, it hurts—and here, it hurts as if it’s been snapped!” Mo Siye nodded seriously, his overly handsome face devoid of humor as he pointed to his left shoulder and then his knee.
Is this madman trying to scam this old man?
The Ghost Physician was skeptical, but out of respect for his position as the leader, he kept his patience and removed his outer robe to examine the injury.
As his snow-white skin was revealed, the handmaiden’s eyes widened, and she let out a quiet, appreciative sound.
“Is it pretty?” Mo Siye asked, his thin lips lifting in a smile.
The handmaiden nodded reflexively.
It was more than just pretty it was a feast for the eyes!
“Still, you can see it but you can’t touch it. It doesn’t belong to you; it belongs to my ‘Momo’,” Mo Siye huffed, his tone brimming with haughty pride.
The handmaiden: “…”
A necrophiliac pervert! Who even wants it! My own curves are much better than yours!
The Ghost Physician nearly rolled his eyes into the back of his skull. He reached out and poked his shoulder hard. Everything looked perfectly fine; there was no sign of an injury.
“Hiss!”
Mo Siye gasped in pain. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. Seeing his pained expression, it didn’t look like he was faking it at all!
“There’s no wound… could it really be a possession? Can you describe to me exactly what kind of pain it is?” The Ghost Physician was stunned.
“The burning sensation is strong, like fire. Perhaps I lost a lot of blood; I feel a bit anemic and dizzy,” Mo Siye said, contemplating the feeling carefully.
“Then it must be a wound pierced by a spell!”
“My kneecap feels shattered; I can’t even stand properly…” Mo Siye pointed to his right knee and continued.
“Stepped on and shattered? Strange, it’s not broken…” The Ghost Physician prodded it again with his hand, but the next second, he was kicked over by the Demon Emperor.
“It hurts!”
That delicate, deep male voice forced the physician to roll his eyes yet again.
After fumbling around at a cabinet filled with bottles and jars, the Ghost Physician tossed a bottle of pain-relieving pills over and offered some well-meaning advice.
“I can’t cure ghost possession. The best I can do is give you two pain pills. Why don’t you consider going to the human realm to catch a Taoist priest to drive the ghost away?”
There’s no wound, what the hell am I supposed to treat!
Mo Siye said nothing. He lowered his eyes, appearing to be deep in thought.
“Could my injuries be related to my reverse scale?” he suddenly asked, a very abrupt question.
The handmaiden and the Ghost Physician exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with pity.
Is the Demon Emperor suffering from lovesickness again? He’s clearly hallucinating.
They both knew he had given his reverse scale to Su Mo, the wife of the Human Emperor. But Su Mo… had perished a thousand years ago. Although the Demon Emperor had reclaimed the body, Su Mo’s soul had long since vanished—resurrection was impossible.
“Take another bottle of my vintage wine. Drink it all, go meet your ‘Momo’ in your dreams, and stop bothering us!” The Ghost Physician threw another bottle over and urged him to leave, looking completely fed up.
“It really hurts… perhaps… perhaps Momo has been resurrected?” Mo Siye tilted his head slightly. That overly beautiful face, paired with peach-blossom eyes filled with hope, was devastatingly gorgeous and pure.
“Get out, get out, get out!”
The Ghost Physician was not one to be soft-hearted. Knowing how terrifying this man could be, he didn’t hesitate to shoo him out.
“Demon Emperor… are you alright…” the handmaiden asked, her eyes brimming with sympathy.
“It must be that Momo has awakened. I must go find him!” Mo Siye was completely lost in his own thoughts, a radiant smile appearing on his face as he spoke.
Before the handmaiden could reply, his figure suddenly vanished.
He’s completely lost his mind…
The handmaiden looked at the empty courtyard, sighed heavily, and rubbed her brow, which was beginning to throb.
One Human Emperor, one Demon Emperor both had become lunatics because of one man.
They had been fighting over his corpse for a thousand years.
It was a good thing he was dead.
If he were still alive, it would probably mean the world was in for chaos all over again!
Meanwhile, not long after Su Mo had killed the cultivator, and before he could even catch his breath, he was caught red-handed by the powerful figures of the Nantian Sect, who had sensed the shattering of the cultivator’s life tablet.
Astonished by his cultivation level, and the fact that he was able to kill a Nascent Soul stage cultivator with his bare hands and leave four Golden Core stage cultivators severely wounded, they did not execute him on the spot. Instead, they dragged him back to the Nantian Sect to be imprisoned in the water dungeon.
The heavy shackles on his ankles scraped against the ground, creating a metallic clanking sound.
Su Mo walked along, curiously observing his surroundings.
The water dungeon was located underground. The passage was extremely narrow and muddy, lit by torches on both sides, though it was not bright. Because it was so humid, the ground was slippery, and the rock walls were covered in moss, carrying a thick, damp, earthy stench.
It was remarkably similar to the water dungeon he had been held in a thousand years ago.
He never expected to have the same experience all over again.
Su Mo curled his lips in self-mockery.
“Go in and reflect on yourself. You ‘fool’, you really are shocking.”
The cultivator in charge of transporting him opened the door to the water dungeon, unsure whether to offer a compliment or an insult.
