It had happened to be quite coincidental. After all, Lu Yu had recently undergone surgery. After being discharged from the hospital some time ago, he had not taken on any work, and at this moment, he had been lying at home watching the livestream.
The phone had not even rung twice before it was picked up.
Or rather, it could be said that Lu Yu had been waiting for a call from the production team all along. Although this call had come from Chen Ying, as long as he could see Chi Nian having a hard time, that was enough.
Thinking about the next segment, the corner of his lips curled up slightly, and even the itch from the surgical incision seemed to lessen.
If Chi Nian were put in an awkward position, Lin Xiao would probably be happy, right?
Recalling the phone call Lin Xiao had given him last night, Lu Yu’s expression shifted once again.
Chi Nian, heh, just wait.
“Hello, this is Lu Yu.” Putting his thoughts away, Lu Yu made a simple self-introduction.
No matter how anxious he was inside, his years of experience in the industry allowed him to wear a gentle and polite mask flawlessly.
Neither the guests on-site nor the audience in the livestream room had expected Chen Ying to suddenly call Lu Yu.
Liu Bing was also stunned for a moment. Since the call had already connected, he could only follow the process. “Come, let’s have Lu Yu greet everyone.”
Liu Bing felt helpless. Chi Nian really had bad luck.
“Hello everyone, I’m Lu Yu. Like you, I’m also watching the show.”
With just that simple sentence, Lu Yu first explained why he could answer Chen Ying’s call so quickly, avoiding unnecessary gossip. At the same time, he was also reminding Chi Nian.
The moment she suddenly heard Lu Yu’s voice, Chi Nian felt terrible.
This “Truth or Dare” really lived up to its name—what a big adventure!
Sorry?
Sorry—those words did exist in her dictionary. But why should she apologize for something she had not done?
Trying to pin something fabricated onto her? Dream on!
Seeing that Chi Nian had not reacted for a long time, Chen Ying urged, “Chi Nian, the call—I’ve already connected it for you. No need to thank me.” Her expression clearly showed she was enjoying the show.
No need to thank her?
No. Thinking about being stuck in this difficult situation, Chi Nian actually wanted to find a chance to properly “thank” Chen Ying.
It had to be said, this dare truly made her uncomfortable. However, there was one thing the main cast might have overlooked.
She, Chi Nian, was someone who was about to quit the entertainment industry!
Stuck between a rock and a hard place? Then she simply would not get off.
No one had ever said that a dare had to be completed. Wasn’t there also the option of accepting a punishment, like drinking alcohol?
“Sorry—”
Chi Nian had only spoken two short syllables when the barrage of comments had already exploded uncontrollably.
【Has Chi Nian finally apologized? I’m going to record this part and watch it on repeat!】
【Recording it +1】
【Recording it + ID number】
【Recording it + Chi Nian’s anti-fan count】
【If Chi Nian really apologizes to Lu Yu, I’ll scold her less in the future.】
【So she’s apologizing now—does that mean the previous trending topic was real?】
【The one above, it was real. You didn’t actually believe Chi Nian’s PR, did you?】
“Sorry, but I refuse this dare. I choose to accept the punishment.”
As she spoke, Chi Nian picked up a can of beer from the round table and took a big gulp.
“‘Bingyu’ beer, cool for the summer.”
She casually wiped the corner of her mouth, glanced at the bold words on the can, and read them out absentmindedly.
Honestly, the beer was actually pretty good. It felt refreshing.
As Chi Nian finished speaking, the once lively barrage suddenly fell silent. Only after a while did a new wave of uproar begin.
【!!! Did I hear that wrong? No apology?】
【No way, Chi Nian is refusing to apologize?】
【If she doesn’t apologize, then fine. Our idol doesn’t care anyway.】
【Just a passerby, but now I just want to say—Chi Nian, hurry up and quit the entertainment industry!】
【Is it possible that Chi Nian wasn’t wrong about that trending topic?】
【The one saying she wasn’t wrong—how much are you getting paid per post? Bring me in too!】
【If it’s Chi Nian, I’m not surprised at all.】
【I’m tired. I don’t want to see this plastic surgery face anymore.】
None of the people present knew about the chaos in the barrage. Everyone had been stunned by Chi Nian’s move.
Even when option A had been clearly given, no one had expected her to choose an option B that was not even on the list.
Liu Bing, being experienced, quickly reacted and picked up where Chi Nian left off. “Chi Nian has chosen to accept the punishment. It seems our ‘Bingyu’ beer really is delicious.”
At this moment, Liu Bing was secretly delighted. When it came to generating buzz, Chi Nian was truly reliable.
You could never predict what she would do next.
This move was brilliant—not only did she avoid confirming the previous trending topic, but she had even helped promote the sponsor.
Chi Nian was good. He had not misjudged her. She was a natural talent for the entertainment industry!
Looking at Chi Nian, who had dropped a “bombshell” and was now leisurely drinking her beer with an expression of enjoyment, Liu Bing suddenly had a thought—was “Bingyu” beer really that good? Should he open a can later as well?
Shaking off that inappropriate thought, Liu Bing continued speaking with the person on the other end of the call. “Miss Li, since Chi Nian has chosen to accept the punishment, the dare segment ends here. Thank you very much for your support.”
“Okay.” Li Fei only managed to respond dryly before the call ended.
After putting down the phone, Li Fei pursed her lips, feeling slightly regretful.
Well, it had never been said that the dare must be completed. Chi Nian taking advantage of a loophole and choosing the drinking penalty was understandable.
After dealing with the lucky audience, there was still Lu Yu on the line.
“Alright, the first round of interaction ends here. Thank you very much to Teacher Lu for participating.” Liu Bing did not give Lu Yu much room to speak.
Out of a sharp instinct, he felt that having Lu Yu and Chi Nian interact was not a good thing.
After all, Chi Nian had brought a lot of attention to the show, and Liu Bing was willing to protect her in certain situations. At the very least, reducing her contact with Lu Yu was something he could do.
Everyone was part of the same industry. No matter how they truly got along behind the scenes, on the surface they maintained harmony. At least during this livestream, Lu Yu would not openly express his malice toward Chi Nian.
There would be opportunities in the future. As long as Chi Nian still wanted to stay in this industry, he would have chances to make things difficult for her.
“Of course. I’m also a loyal fan of the show.”
After exchanging a few more polite words, Lu Yu followed Liu Bing’s lead and hung up.
In the following segments, several more lucky audience members were selected. Everyone performed quite well. Perhaps because Chi Nian had “set the stage” earlier, the remaining guests received continuous praise and gained a wave of new fans.
“Although it’s hard to part, I still have to say that our program is nearing its end. For the final segment, each guest should say a few words.”
