A few more days passed.
Wen Song received an invitation to a pool party sent by Zhao Mingzhuo.
Ever since the other man had run a fever, it had been nearly half a month without contact. In the past, no matter how busy Zhao Mingzhuo was, he would send a message every other day, but this time he had vanished completely.
Clearly, Zhao Mingzhuo must have been handling corporate matters recently.
He probably didn’t even have time to court Omegas.
Wen Song had been quite busy as well.
Ms. Song Lanxue had been transferred to a new hospital, and all basic treatment courses and medical examinations needed to be carefully cross-checked. At the same time, the twenty-thousand-per-dose injections were scheduled, along with other new checkups, requiring him to re-verify all the necessary pre-surgery parameters.
He had been running back and forth at the hospital these past few days.
Fortunately, he had help, which made things much easier.
Whether due to the change in medication or other reasons, his grandmother’s conscious intervals were longer than before, and most of the time she just chatted with him by her side.
Seeing that he didn’t need to go to the hospital on that particular day and had no work scheduled, Wen Song simply agreed to go.
As soon as his affirmative reply was sent, he received a second-reply from the other side.
[Zhao Mingzhuo]: I thought you would refuse.
[Zhao Mingzhuo]: How is Grandma’s condition? Did you find a solution for the matter you mentioned to me last time?
[Zhao Mingzhuo]: Don’t worry about the expenses; I will pay them.
[Zhao Mingzhuo]: I’ve been quite busy lately, which is why I didn’t contact you.
Wen Song looked at the message from Zhao Mingzhuo and pressed his lips together.
From a partnership perspective, Zhao Mingzhuo was indeed very good. He only needed to take care of some simple daily routines and be on call, and the other man would provide help without attaching any conditions.
It was just that their relationship would end sooner or later.
Initially, he had indeed harbored a sliver of romantic feeling for Zhao Mingzhuo.
Later, he realized it wasn’t liking, but gratitude.
Being rescued from the inside in an unfamiliar environment easily produced illusions, and it was only later that he gradually realized he harbored no true romantic love for anyone.
Zhao Mingzhuo used his blurred vision and treated him as a substitute, while he exchanged it for money, making them even. Neither owed the other anything.
[Song]: There’s no major issue.
[Song]: The doctor said to just switch to a different medication.
[Zhao Mingzhuo]: That’s good.
Their conversation ended there.
For some reason, Wen Song suddenly thought of Guan Sui. His knuckles tightened slightly before relaxing, and he placed his phone back on the desk, diving back into work.
The pool party.
A Maybach roared over, executing a sleek drift that caused the crowd at the entrance to whistle and gasp in admiration.
Duan Ze walked forward, leaning his upper body casually against the car body, took off his sunglasses, and tapped lightly on the driver’s side window.
The car window slowly rolled down.
It was Guan Sui.
He must have specially groomed himself before heading out; all the fringe on his forehead was brushed back, exposing a full forehead and making his facial features look even more aggressive. His nasal bridge was high and straight, adding a three-dimensional sense, and his entire body radiated the unique aura belonging to a top-tier Alpha.
Duan Ze hooked his sunglasses onto his shirt collar, crossed his arms over the edge of the window, and let out a thoroughly ungentlemanly, raspy whistle. “Yo, looking this sharp? Aren’t you afraid every single Omega here is going to stare at you today?”
“Scram,” Guan Sui uttered a single word with an unchanging expression.
Duan Ze grinned playfully. “Will do.”
“This buddy of mine will roll away into a nice, round ball.”
That said, he didn’t actually budge an inch, at most standing up straight to make room for Guan Sui.
Guan Sui pushed open the car door and stepped out with his long legs.
“I never noticed you cared so much about dressing up before,” Duan Ze said, sizing up his good friend from top to bottom while rubbing his chin with a meaningful expression. “Could it be that the Beta you’re chasing is also at this pool party?”
And why are you dressed so formally for a pool party?
You’re practically wearing a suit and tie.
A bunch of other people didn’t mind the cold, showing up directly at this party in boxer shorts and bikinis.
Guan Sui stuck out like a peacock spreading its tail.
Before the other could speak, Duan Ze smartly chimed in, “Oh…”
Drawing out the syllable, he patted Guan Sui’s shoulder, nodded heavily, and continued in a rather sarcastic tone, “Fishing for a wife, huh? I’m quite the poser myself, I get you, buddy.”
Guan Sui glanced sideways at the hand resting on his shoulder. Duan Ze gave a light cough and withdrew his hand with a deadpan expression.
Facing his friend’s deliberate mockery, he offered no response.
He was used to it.
Duan Ze’s personality had always been like this.
Once the two of them walked into the villa, they found another person who looked entirely out of place at this party: Wen Song.
The other was dressed in long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, paired with simple, clean canvas shoes.
With rosy lips, fair skin, and striking facial features, he looked as refined and handsome as a slant of winter sunlight.
Standing there, he seemed completely cut off from everyone else at the party.
“Tsk,” Duan Ze couldn’t help sighing.
“I suddenly feel like Wen Song’s looks are top-tier. He has more gentleness than an Alpha, and more ruggedness than an Omega.”
“He’s a top-shelf specimen even among Betas.”
“No wonder Zhao Mingzhuo chose a Beta like this to date. I’m starting to get it now.”
Guan Sui glanced indifferently at Duan Ze.
The latter felt his whole body start to prickle under that gaze, rubbing his arms and asking with utter bewilderment, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I’ll make sure to tell Wen Xu that you like Betas.”
Leaving those words behind, Guan Sui strode away.
Duan Ze froze for a moment, cursed under his breath, and hurriedly gave chase, shouting, “Guan Sui, are we still good buddies or not!”
Wen Song, waiting by the poolside, heard the familiar name and looked in the direction of the voice.
He saw Duan Ze jogging over to join Guan Sui, who was dressed in a black shirt, as the two Alphas walked side by side into the inner hall.
For some reason, Wen Song found himself staring trance-like.
It wasn’t until someone walked up beside him and asked, “Are you Wen Song?” that he snapped back to reality.
The person asking was an Omega, one meter seventy-five tall, with delicate and pretty features, emitting a faint, sweet jasmine fragrance.
That was the scent of the other’s pheromones.
“I am,” Wen Song lowered his eyelids. “Is something the matter?”
The Omega swirled the champagne in his hand, looking him up and down with an unusual glimmer of emotion in his eyes.
After a moment, letting out something akin to a breath of relief, the Omega said, “Turns out you’re just a Beta with no pheromones.”
Anyone else would have been instantly provoked into extreme irritation by such a remark.
Wen Song remained calm.
Seeing that he didn’t get angry, the Omega continued, “I heard Betas are just playthings for people. Without pheromones, do you even know how to please an Alpha?”
He had expected the Beta before him to fly into a rage and hurl abuses. Instead, he heard the other reply in an even, unbothered tone:
“Right. You’re an Omega, so you must be very good at pleasing Alphas.”
The Omega, who had just been countered and talked back to, stared in shock.
