Beneath the silent, cold moonlight, the color of blood spread.
Lu Yubai slammed his foot on the accelerator, making the car fly down the road. Since they had followed him all the way here, he had to give them a good game, did he not?
The moment Lu Yubai’s car sped away, the dark figures by the roadside rushed into their respective vehicles with perfect coordination. Three black cars trailed closely behind him.
While they were in the city, the three cars merely shadowed him, maintaining enough distance to ensure they did not lose him. However, as soon as Lu Yubai drove into the suburbs, they began to accelerate and overtake, even illegally using their hazard lights in an attempt to force his car to a stop.
Lu Yubai pushed the gas pedal to the floor. His forehead was covered in cold sweat, and the sharp pain in his wrist made him gasp. The drivers behind him saw how fast he was going; given the rugged mountain roads, they did not dare to pursue too closely for fear of driving their own cars off the cliff.
After several rounds of chasing, Lu Yubai’s fuel gauge hit empty. He was finally forced to stop on a gentle slope halfway up a small hill. The three black cars surrounded him at the edge of the cliff, flashing their hazard lights to force him out.
The blinding glare made it impossible to see. Lu Yubai reached up to wipe the sweat from his forehead. Blood from his palm dripped onto his temple, which he wiped away with the white silk scarf tied around his wrist. Outside the car, a dark crowd of people swung their doors open and stepped out.
Lu Yubai also pushed his door open and exited the vehicle. He walked to the front of his car and leaned against the hood, crossing his legs casually. The men approached inch by inch, their tall, dark figures blocking the piercing light. Their long shadows stretched out, draping over Lu Yubai’s body.
The air grew thick with the scent of multiple Alphas. He could sense two S3 level Alphas, three ordinary Alphas, and four Betas in the crowd. A nauseating smell combined with a crushing sense of pressure hit him, making Lu Yubai want to retch. The pheromones they emitted were pungent and unpleasant. These scents seemed synthetic, carrying a fishy stench like a seafood market.
Lu Yubai possessed a rare red wine scented pheromone of the S3 level, meaning the pressure from those of the same rank had no effect on him. However, as the two Alphas released their combined pressure, a layer of sweat broke out on his forehead and his body turned cold. The surrounding air felt as though it had been sucked away, leaving him gasping for breath.
Under the cold moonlight, large beads of sweat rolled down his handsome face. Lu Yubai toyed with the silk scarf on his wrist, which was now stained with a blotch of deep red. His cold features remained steady and composed. A faint smile curled on his lips as he slowly raised his eyes, scanning the group of men with a frigid gaze.
“You all were sent by Lin Lan, right?”
The men glanced at each other but did not give a direct answer.
“You are at death’s door, yet you still want to know so much?”
“Does it matter who sent us?”
“All you need to know is that we are here for your life.”
As the voices spoke, they drew closer. Looking at the dark crowd before him, the anger Lu Yubai had suppressed for three years finally erupted. Rage turned the corners of his eyes red, and bitter memories surged through his mind like ocean waves. He glared at the crowd, his face twisted with malice.
“I do not care who ordered you. You, and the people behind you, I will dig every single one of you out! Three years, for three whole years, you made me lose him!”
“Today, I will properly play with you all!”
With eyes flashing with uncontrollable fury, he quickly pulled a sedative from his suit pocket. He rolled up his sleeve and, without hesitation, injected it into his arm. The suppression from the pheromones began to fade, and his own red wine scented pheromones spread beneath the moonlight, wild and uninhibited.
Yan Chi was his life. No one could live for three years as a walking corpse after losing their life. During these three years, no one could truly empathize with his pain. He would make these damned people pay the price!
During his movements, Lu Yubai had already been surrounded. He tossed the empty syringe aside and spat on the ground in anger. “When I was running things in Jiangcheng, you lot were still drinking milk!”
“Today, we will tear off your arms and see if the mouth of Young Master Lu is tougher, or if our fists are tougher.”
With a sharp command, the crowd surged forward holding weapons. Lu Yubai quickly grabbed the arm of a man with a tattooed neck. He tightened his grip and twisted backward, dislocating the man’s arm before delivering a heavy kick to his groin. The man’s face contorted in agony, and as he stumbled, he crashed into two others.
Before Lu Yubai could catch his breath, an iron bar struck him directly on the head. Thick blood slid down his temple. Enduring the intense pain, he grabbed the iron bar, lunged up the man’s arm, and slammed him into the ground with an over the shoulder throw. He snatched the bar from the man’s hand and stepped on his chest, grinding his leather shoe down with force. His entire aura was like a Satan who had just crawled out of hell.
During the chaotic struggle, Lu Yubai eventually suffered from the disadvantage in numbers. He was kicked several times, and a sharp knife slashed his cheek, leaving a three centimeter long bloody gash. At the same time, the group did not fare well against him either. Lu Yubai fought with extreme brutality, striking vital points every time. These were the lessons learned three years ago.
“You all are much worse than the lot from three years ago!”
He looked down at the seven disgusting rats on the ground, his eyes filled with arrogant contempt. The remaining two S3 level Alphas closed in. Their foul scent was slowly eroding the red wine aroma on Lu Yubai’s body.
“Low quality mixtures, how disgusting!” Lu Yubai cursed as if he were insulting trash.
The two were completely enraged and lunged at Lu Yubai simultaneously. He took several solid punches under their combined attack, but he returned every single one of them. As time passed, Lu Yubai gradually began to feel the crushing weight of the pheromones. His breathing became increasingly difficult, and his consciousness began to blur.
Under the swaying car lights, the figures in front of him split from two into four. Memory merged with reality. He vaguely saw the scene from three years ago when he was cornered in an alley by five Alphas fighting for his life. His despair and pain were crushed under the same cold moonlight, staining the ground red. That was when his glands had been damaged.
Along with the memories, endless pain surged forth. A second before he collapsed, several car lights lit up behind him, like the light of dawn illuminating his body. His shadow gradually shortened amidst the sound of police sirens.
Before fainting on the ground, a few hot tears rolled down his face. His throat was hoarse, and his voice was so faint it barely sounded like speech.
“If I had known, I would have drunk more milk so I could win the fight.”
The deep red on his wrist merged into the cold moonlight. The silk scarf looked as though it had been painted with a color that would be difficult to wash away. Beneath the hazy moon, the mottled blood was exceptionally piercing to the eye.
