I was walking home slowly.

I was almost positive today was the day the Boosted Gear awakened.

Let’s leave that to Ddraig, I guess.Full novel: The Transcending System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

I hoped Ddraig convinced Issei not to join Rias’s peerage.

Not that she was bad or anything.

In fact, I knew the Gremorys treated their peerage like family.

But still.

A dragon was way too proud to change its race.

I knew I would be pissed if someone made me a devil without my consent.

Not only were you basically enslaving me, but you were capping my potential?

Ugh.

I may not like you, Issei, but good luck.

— When I headed home to change before going over to Ryozanpaku, the street felt off.

It was strange.

I was almost positive a barrier had been thrown up around me.

Reaching into my bag, I grabbed a talisman and began to look around.

“Reveal the shadows to me.

One from the South.

Order!” I tossed my best talisman into the air.

The space around me heated drastically, light blooming through the barrier like a flare.

A woman with jet-black wings sneered at me from a distance.

“I guess you aren’t just full of magic power, huh?” She lifted a hand to cover her mouth and giggled.

“Not that it matters.

Humans will remain ants.” This one wasn’t the one I had seen in the future fragments.

Wait.

No.

She had appeared in the scene with that young nun tied up in the church by a group of fallen angels.

Yet another gross fate.

Whatever.

That was still a while away.

Maybe I would help.

“What are you thinking about, human?” the fallen angel asked.

Then her smile widened.

“Ah.

You must be mesmerized by my beauty, correct?” She licked her lips and continued, “A little plain, but handsome nonetheless.

Maybe I’ll keep you for a few years.” I didn’t answer.

Despite the shiver running up my spine, I took my fighting stance.

[Warning: Host is facing a hostile supernatural entity.] I know.

[Recommended action: Escape.] I know.

[Then why are you entering a fighting stance?] Because I make terrible choices under pressure.

I couldn’t run away.

Those assholes at the dojo would definitely be disappointed in me if I suddenly decided to run after all that training.

I began to circulate my energy and narrowed my eyes.

The talisman was still burning.

One from the South.

The Vermilion Bird.

It should have been effective as a pseudo-holy power to some degree.

Not that I was banking on it.

I tensed my muscles and dug my foot into the ground, kicking off as fast as I could.

I thought that was how Miu moved so fast, at least.

I arrived in front of the fallen angel before she expected me to.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Good.

Not faster than her.

Just faster than she thought I would be.

I stepped inside her stance, spun to the side, hooked her ankle, and drove my palm into her back.

She hit the ground.

I hopped backward immediately, keeping my hands up as she rose.

Judging from the glare on her face, she was pissed.

Maybe I should have gone for a vital point.

My stomach twisted.

Do I really want to kill someone?

— Sakaki POV “He’s hesitant,” I said.

“That’s good, isn’t it?” Kensei said, watching the little dragon’s fight beside me.

I hated standing on trees.

I mean, I could do it.

But it was too delicate for my taste.

Snorting, I took a swig of sake.

Kensei wasn’t an idiot.

It would be a good thing if the kid were a normal human.

But this guy was a dragon.

Or something close enough.

Fucking supernatural shit.

“He isn’t your disciple, though, Sakaki,” Akisame said as he stroked his chin, landing beside me.

“Why does it matter?” “This is his test,” I grumbled.

I bitched, but I kind of liked the kid.

He was driven.

Let’s see what you can do, little dragon.

— Raoul POV Oh, she was pissed.

Really pissed.

She gnashed her teeth and glared at me.

“How dare you?” she growled, her presence growing heavier.

“A mere human struck me?!

Unforgivable!” Oh shit.

Her wings spread wide before snapping forward almost too fast to believe.

Black streaks tore through the air.

Feathers?

I could see them.

Barely.

I focused every sense I had on the incoming projectiles.

Time seemed to slow as I tried to avoid them.

I did better than I should have.

Which still meant I got cut open in a handful of places.

Thankfully, none of the injuries were much more than skin deep.

Scary.

But that speed had nothing on Apachai’s kicks.

I guess I really was getting better.

I dashed forward as fast as I could while she recovered.

She sneered once more and drove her hand toward my heart.

I barely deflected the fatal blow.

Her fingers dug into my shoulder instead.

Shit.

I think she’s between the bones.

Damn it.

Now!

I threw an uppercut as hard as I could.

It barely missed her nose.

Fuck.

I could have driven the cartilage upward.

She probably wouldn’t have died, but it definitely would have been bad for her.

She screeched.

“Die!” A spear of light appeared beside her.

It felt gross.

Like someone had tried to pour bleach over something filthy.

The spear tore through the air.

I couldn’t dodge this.

Welp.

It’s been a good run.

— Third-Person POV Raoul appeared to have given up.

Even so, he maintained his glare at the fallen angel.

He was afraid.

He was unsatisfied.

But he was convinced this was it.

Luckily, there was a flicker.

Then he vanished from the spot.

The spear flew through empty air and smashed into a nearby statue, reducing it to rubble.

The fallen angel’s eyes widened.

A moment later, a fist struck her in the stomach.

She was knocked backward at a ridiculous speed, boots carving twin lines through the street as she skidded to a stop.

Her eyes locked onto the small Chinese man who had struck her.

He smiled.

“Now, now,” Ma Kensei said lightly.

“Bullying children is not very attractive.” She flared her wings and glared at him.

Looking to the right, she saw a middle-aged man holding Raoul, who appeared to be unconscious.

Beside him, another man in a white jujutsu gi was calmly tending to the wound in Raoul’s shoulder.

The fallen angel clicked her tongue.

— A/N: Ive had crazy writers block.

I’ll try to keep one of my fics updating for now.

Sorry y’all.
