Samuel had a serene look on his face as he replied, “It was to kill you.”
“What?”
He flipped the contract in his hand and casually said, “You witnessed my brother shifting in our club; I couldn’t take any chances.”
Elia went pale.
He was talking about killing someone as if it were something normal.
Like he had done it before to the humans that accidentally saw one of his kind turning into a monster.
Not even her hateful family wanted her dead.
For all their faults, they still thought of her as one of their own.
“And what changed?” She refused to incite some empathy from the man who clearly lacked it.
She didn’t ask about how he could do this to someone?
About how she didn’t deserve to die, and many more things, but she stopped herself from doing so.
Elia knew what she deserved, and this man had zero influence in changing it.
“What made you not kill me, Mr. Donovan?”
Samuel had to applaud her courage.
Not once did she show fear after he told her about the plan to kill her.
She was tough for a human.
“The plan changed.”
Elia didn’t like his vague answer, and she voiced it out, “I need a better explanation than that, Mr. Donovan. You were planning on killing me after all.” Even saying that out loud sent chills down her spine.
Many bad things had happened to her till now, but nothing would come close to her experience getting kidnapped.
And learning that someone wanted her dead just because she saw something totally out of her control made her realize how precious her time on this earth is.
Eros shifted uncomfortably in his place as he watched the interaction between his brother and the human.
He knew Sam was weighing his options about how much to reveal to her.
Knowing their identity alone was too much, but revealing more would put them at a disadvantage.
He glanced at his human mate.
She was a beautiful woman.
Not the kind of woman he usually went for though.
She had dark brown hair, the color of the finest chocolate, paired with light brown eyes that radiated warmth, making him sigh.
The delicate features on her face, paired with a prominent mole on the side of her chin, made him gulp.
It looked so enticing, coupled with her soft lips.
He couldn’t help but cross his legs as he tried to cover his hard-on.
Damn it, He was losing his mind!
Eros didn’t know whether this was due to the mate bond or him being the horn dog he is.
His train of thought came to a halt when he heard Samuel say, “You are our mate.”
“Sam!?” Eros was shocked by his casualness in saying that out loud.
Meanwhile, Samuel looked directly at Elia as she looked at him in confusion, “Mate? What does that even mean?”
Smauel shrugged, “Mate like soulmate. We wolves instinctively know when we meet the right person,” he omitted the detail about the mate bond being found for the first time after several centuries.
It was done as a means to not overwhelm her.
Elia had to take a moment before she asked something that came first to her mind, “What do you mean by ‘Our mate’?” Who was this Our?
Eros sighed at Sam’s situation.
This shit had never happened before; multiple wolves having a single mate wasn’t a precedent, even before mate bonds stopped showing up.
The circumstances now were bizarre and new to even his kind.
Even Samuel felt hesitant to explain further, but he did it anyway, “You remember my brother shifting in the club, right?’ She nodded, and he continued, “He only did it because he lost control of his wolf after recognizing you as his mate.
And as for me…”
Sam liked how Elia had eyes only on him while he talked.
He felt like he could talk nonstop for hours if it meant having her full attention.
A sudden thought came to his mind, would the wolfsbane be really enough when he was getting affected by everything she did?
He had to remain strong for the good of his pack.
This Human can never become a proper Luna to him or his brothers, “I saw you in the basement and shifted because I too recognized you as my mate. My other brother, Asheron, whom you haven’t seen yet, also confirmed the same after he saw you while you were not yet conscious.”
“This is ridiculous,” Elia laughed, not in a headspace to believe this nonsense, “So you are telling me, you wolf people turn into monsters when you recognize your mate.”
That seemed like a simple but accurate take on the mate bond fiasco, so Sam nodded in agreement.
And he also didn’t miss the way she talked about his kind.
They were a foreign concept to her, just like she was to them; it was understandable.
Elia took a deep breath and pointed out something else, “If I’m your mate, then why don’t I feel anything for you?”
“It’s because you are a human.” It was Eros that answered her this time, “At least that is what I think, maybe there is another reason. Who knows? But you are a human”
She furrowed her brows.
He kept on saying that, as if it were her fault that she was born a human.
Unlike him, she didn’t want to turn into a monster and attack people.
Elia liked her human life better, thank you very much.
“Mr.
Donovan,” Elia once again looked at Samuel, “So you are telling me that it’s not that you won’t but can’t kill me because you think I’m your mate” She knew the basic concept of what a mate is through her romance books, but nothing other than that.
And she didn’t want to know more because she had no interest in it.
She just wanted to get out of this place and get back to her life.
These people would have killed her if they had a chance, not the kind of people she wanted to associate with.
So she asked, “Now that everything is cleared, can I leave?” Then she turned to Alyn, the only one who had treated her injuries, ”Can you please get me my handbag?
I had my cell phone in it.”
Alyn glanced at Samuel instead of replying to her, “Alpha?’
Elia glared at him, “And who are you to decide that?” She briefly closed and opened her eyes, trying to contain her anger, ”Look, Mr., I don’t know what your deal is, and I don’t give a damn about it.
That mate bond and you shifting and all that bullshit, it has nothing to do with me,” She hurriedly got up from her seat and was about to walk towards the door until she felt someone holding her wrist.
She turned and saw Samuel gripping her wrist in a tight hold.
Elia tried to shake him off, “Let me go!”
“Calm down,” He said, but Elia was not hearing it.
She turned to Eros, “Hey, do something about this.”
Eros stepped towards his brother, “Sam…”
“She can’t leave, Ros. You know that” What Sam said made Eros stop in his tracks.
While Elia struggled, Sam also got up from his place and stepped near her, making her flinch.
She waited with bated breath as he parted his lips, “My brothers and I have too many enemies.
The moment they get to know about your existence and your importance to us, they will do worse than killing you,” Elia shuddered as he added, “I don’t care about what happens to you, but I do care about my pack.
I’m still struggling to come to terms with a human like you being our weakness, so don’t make me more irritated than that.
It will not end well for you.”
“Are you threatening me right now?”
Sam pursed his lips, “I’m warning you.” Then he glanced down at her wrist in his hand.
Bruises were starting to appear on her soft skin, which made him loosen the hold and rub at them, “We don’t like having you as our mate.” It hurt him physically saying that, “The only solution we found to get rid of this unwanted mate bond is through this contract”
He strugglingly released her hand and watched as she stepped away from him and asked, “What solution?”
Sam glanced at Eros only to see the latter clenching his fists.
He was the only one who seemed on board with having a mate when he heard it first, but Sam couldn’t allow that.
They couldn’t be ruled by a stupid mate bond.
“You have to remain here in the safety of Crimson Moon Pack until we mark a chosen mate. My brother and I will choose a suitable she-wolves and make them our mates which will automatically dissolve the bond between you and us”
“You sound very confident saying that” Elia muttered, “How are you even sure it will work?”
Sam had thought about it too.
For a long time but there was no other solution than this, “It must work”
Elia didn’t like that answer.
He wasn’t completely sure about it working, but wanted to believe it would.
Well, it had nothing to do with her.
Once they choose their mates, she will leave whether someone likes it or not.
“And how long will that take?” That is what worried her next.
The thought of constantly being in danger didn’t seem appealing to her.
She still didn’t believe everything they said, but how could she ignore it when she saw it with her own eyes?
Them turning into werewolves was not untrue; she saw that with her own eyes
“Six months” Sam replied with conviction, “In six months, you will be free”
