When Gu Yunxi woke up again, it was already evening. She picked up her phone and saw more than a dozen missed calls from unknown numbers.

There was also a text message from Liu Ying. It said that Wu Jiang from Jiangcheng Medical University Affiliated Hospital had asked for her number, saying he had something to ask of her.

That meant those calls were probably from Wu Jiang.Full novel: The True Heiress from the Countryside Is a Hidden Mystic Boss — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She dialed back. The call connected almost immediately, and an anxious voice came from the other end.

“Is this Master Gu? I’m Wu Jiang’s family member. He seems to be sick and unable to speak. It’s been nearly a whole day, and the hospital hasn’t found anything wrong.

He asked me to call you, saying only you can cure him. Please, save him.”

“Has he admitted his mistake?”

A clear and pleasant voice reached Wu Jiang’s mother. She looked at the phone.

Was this the right number?

Why was it a woman’s voice? She sounded young—was she reliable?

Wu Jiang nodded vigorously. His mother quickly replied, “Xiao Jiang… he… he admits his mistake!”

“I’m too far away to see. I’ll send you an address—have him come find me. And make sure he brings sincerity.”

After saying that, she hung up.

He was too impatient. If he waited another day or two, he would naturally regain his voice.

But this was fine—just a small lesson. He wasn’t kind, and neither was she.

Insulting her ancestors would naturally bring misfortune. She had only given him a minor punishment.

An hour later, Wu Jiang rang the doorbell. He hadn’t expected that she actually lived here.

This was the famous Yujing Bay villa district—a gathering place for the wealthy and powerful.

Aunt Wang informed Gu Yunxi, and she came out.

From the second floor, Gu Yan saw Gu Yunxi meeting a man and took out her phone.

As expected of someone from the countryside—so restless. She had only been here a few days and was already getting involved with men outside!

She touched her stomach. After taking the medicine, she felt much better.

Too bad Fourth Brother hadn’t come—otherwise, he could have examined her.

“Doctor Wu, weren’t you quite bold earlier? Not only did you scold me, you even glared at me. Why can’t you endure it after just half a day?”

Wu Jiang’s mother smiled apologetically. “I didn’t expect the expert to be such a beautiful young lady—and living in such a luxurious place.”

Wu Jiang hurried forward, pointing at his mouth, making urgent sounds, almost on the verge of tears.

Gu Yunxi patted his shoulder.

“Ah!” Wu Jiang cleared his throat.

“I—I can speak!” He turned excitedly to his mother. “Mom, I can talk again! I’ve recovered!”

“Thank you, Master Gu. This morning, I failed to recognize your ability and offended you with my words. It’s only right that you punished me. These are some gifts as an apology—please accept them.”

Gu Yunxi glanced at what he brought—various supplements, and she even spotted a box of lingzhi.

These gifts were quite thoughtful.

“It’s fine. Let’s consider this matter settled. In the future, don’t judge people with prejudice, or you’ll be the one who suffers.”

“Yes, yes!”

Since he had recovered, they didn’t stay long and quickly left.

“Xiao Jiang, she didn’t even treat you—why can you speak now? We spent so much money on those gifts. Maybe even if we didn’t come, you would’ve recovered by now.”

“Mom, stop talking. Let’s go. She’s very powerful. Didn’t you see? She just lightly tapped my shoulder, and I could speak again. She’s a true expert!”

“I see…”

Gu Yunxi looked up at the second floor and saw a figure quickly slip back into a room.

“Aunt Wang, you can take these and eat them.”

“Oh! Thank you, Miss Yunxi!” With so many good things, she gave them away so casually—unlike that adopted daughter, who acted like the lady of the house.

Even eating an extra piece of fruit would earn her a glare!

That night, Gu family’s fourth son, Gu Yunsheng, returned.

He brought back two boxes of desserts. Seeing the unfamiliar girl in the living room, he guessed she was Gu Yunxi.

“Yan’er, this is for you.”

He placed one box in front of Gu Yan, then walked over to Gu Yunxi. “Yunxi, this is for you.”

“Thank you, Fourth Brother, but I don’t really like sweets.”

[So this is Gu family’s fourth son—the one who dotes on Gu Yan the most among the five brothers. Since I arrived, Gu Yan must have complained about me a lot.]

Was he overworked lately? Why was he having hallucinations?

“You don’t like sweets? Then what do you like? Tell me—I’ll buy it for you.”

He sat beside Gu Yan.

[What I like most is money. Food isn’t as important as money.]

“Fourth Brother!” Gu Yan looked at him with teary eyes, appearing pitiful and stirring a strong protective instinct.

“What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

Gu Yan hugged his arm and began acting coquettish. “Fourth Brother, why didn’t you answer my calls or reply to my messages?”

“Oh! My phone had issues. I just got it back today. What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

Gu Yan glanced at Liu Zheng’s expression and thought that since their father wasn’t around, she shouldn’t say anything.

“N-no… it’s just that I’m not feeling well. Can you take a look at me?”

“Let’s go.”

The two went upstairs.

[Tsk tsk, as expected of the female lead’s good brother—worried over nothing. What could Gu Yan possibly have? At most, she’s just badmouthing me. Fine, once they come back down, I’ll probably get scolded again.]

Gu Yunlang found it strange—why did it seem like Gu Yunsheng hadn’t heard Yunxi’s thoughts at all?

That shouldn’t be the case. They were all their mother’s children. Except for the second brother and himself, who hadn’t met Yunxi before, the others could hear her thoughts.

Very strange.

About ten minutes later, Gu Yunsheng came downstairs, looking angry.

[Here it comes—cheap Fourth Brother is here to pick a fight.]

[3, 2, 1]

“Gu Yunxi, look at what you’ve done!”

Gu Yunxi sat up straight. “Fourth Brother, what is it? Did your dear Yan’er complain about me again? What trouble is she trying to stir today? Go ahead—I’m all ears.”

What did Gu Yunxi mean? How did she know he came to pick a fight?

[Strike first—he doesn’t even know how to start. Yan’er must have exaggerated upstairs, saying all kinds of bad things about me.]

“You… what did you just say?”

Gu Yunxi blinked innocently. “I just asked if she said I bullied her again.”

“Enough, Yunsheng. Your sister has been here for days, and you’re only just back. What’s more important—work or your sister?”

“Yunxi is your biological sister. We are family. The one upstairs is just an adopted daughter. No matter what happens, don’t doubt Yunxi, understand?”

[This is what a beautiful mother is like—her words sound so nice. Though the plot feels a bit off… never mind. Since they don’t seem hostile toward me, I’ll stay in the Gu family for now.]

“Mom, I still have some work to do. I’ll head upstairs first.”

“Alright, go ahead.”

After Gu Yunxi closed her bedroom door, Liu Zheng took Gu Yunsheng’s hand and lowered her voice.

“From your expression, you must have heard it, right?”
