Over the following period, Song Zhi and Xu You lived a life akin to “cohabitation” in that hospital room.
During the day, Song Zhi went to work at Song Tao’s company, while Xu You stayed in the ward to receive treatment.
Once Song Zhi got off work, she would buy some delicious food to bring back for Xu You. At first, Xu You wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about eating these things, but later, under Song Zhi’s pitiful, puppy dog gaze, she reluctantly took a bite and was instantly hooked.
Song Zhi was a bit of a chatterbox. Ever since they added each other on WeChat, she would message her the moment she left the house. “Sister, I’m leaving now!”
When having lunch, she would send. “Sister, I ate this, this, and this.” All day long, it was “Sister this” and “Sister that.”
When she returned in the evening, she would rattle on and on, talking about the fun things at the company and what she had learned. Occasionally, when she ran into difficult business problems she couldn’t solve, Xu You would subtly guide her with just a few choice words. Song Zhi would instantly have an epiphany, grab her laptop, and immediately dive into handling the official business.
During that period, the operations of Song Tao’s company improved significantly. For some reason, the company’s resources increased tremendously, and business grew more and more prosperous. Furthermore, Chu Xiao, a rising star in the industry, actually extended an olive branch and proposed a collaboration, which left Song Tao somewhat flattered and overwhelmed.
He would only occasionally sigh at the dinner table. “Xiao Zhi barely comes home these days. She stays at the hospital every day to keep Xu You company. I know the child might be trying to make up for her past mistakes toward Xu You, but…”
At this point, Tan Yingying would place some food into his bowl. “You said it yourself, Xiao Zhi is making amends. If you miss your daughter, just give her a video call.”
Only Song Xian, who was silently eating with her head down, had the corner of her mouth twitch slightly.
Making amends, making amends… just wait until she brings you back a girlfriend.
Song Zhi worked diligently at the company, being both conscientious and responsible. In less than half a year, she earned a promotion.
On the day of her promotion, many people in the company congratulated her, and Song Zhi responded with a beaming smile.
She thought excitedly: I absolutely must take Sister out for dinner tonight!
Seeing that it was almost time to clock out, Song Zhi sent a message to Xu You.
【Sister, I’m about to get off work! Hehe, I got promoted today. Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?】
Xu You replied very quickly: 【Okay. Congratulations.】
Staring at those three words, Song Zhi smiled with absolute sweetness. Just as she began planning what kind of feast to treat Xu You to, someone tapped her on the shoulder.
Turning around, she saw a girl with long, golden hair.
Song Zhi recognized her, but didn’t have a deep impression of her.
The girl held some documents, her face slightly flushed, and her voice was soft. “Congratulations on your promotion.”
Song Zhi smiled back. “Thank you!”
The girl continued, “Um, can I treat you to dinner tonight?”
Song Zhi: “?”
She scratched her head, the smile on her face fading slightly. “I’m so sorry, I already have plans with someone else tonight.”
Hearing this, the girl looked disappointed, but more than that, embarrassed. Song Zhi watched as her face instantly turned bright red, and she said awkwardly, “It’s, it’s okay. Sorry to bother you!”
With that, she quickly ran away.
Leaving Song Zhi standing there alone in bewilderment.
However, she quickly put the encounter behind her, humming a tune as she opened her phone to search for good restaurants nearby.
Today, she was going to find the best restaurant in City A!
Song Zhi also didn’t forget to order 99 roses from a flower shop, specifically instructing the merchant to use the most gorgeous and beautiful packaging.
After agreeing to Song Zhi’s invitation, Xu You opened her wardrobe and quietly looked over the clothes inside.
Just then, she received a message.
【Boss, Boss! Guess what I just saw when I went to the Song Group?】
【Image】
Xu You tapped open the photo. There were two people in it.
A slightly shorter girl, face flushed, seemed to be saying something to Song Zhi, while Song Zhi’s expression wasn’t quite clear.
【Has Song Zhi changed her spots recently? She actually started working? And Boss, I feel like she’s really different from before!】
Xu You’s mind was completely occupied by the photo she had just seen. An inexplicable sense of irritability flared up within her, and she switched off her phone expressionlessly.
After rushing through her remaining tasks, Song Zhi drove frantically to the hospital. Running back into the ward, she saw Xu You sitting on the sofa, wearing a white dress, her face as fair as snow.
She stared blankly. This was the first time she had ever seen Xu You wear a dress.
Song Zhi stammered, “Sister, you look so beautiful today! Hehe, is it because of me?”
Xu You glanced at her but didn’t answer her question. Instead, she said, “Let’s go. Weren’t you going to treat me to dinner?”
Song Zhi gave an “oh” in response. As she walked beside Xu You, she caught the faint scent of perfume on her.
Xu You never used to wear perfume before, why today…
She put a stop to her impossible fantasies and silently told herself. Song Zhi, don’t flatter yourself.
