Jacobs Villa was located in Mansion No.
7 on the Eastway Loop of Kyloria, an area where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold.
The villa’s exterior walls were clad in colored glass, giving it the grand, luxurious appearance of a crystal castle from afar.
The car pulled up in front of the elegant European-style building.
A servant immediately stepped forward to open the door.
“Sir, you’re back!
The young master just arrived too!”
Juno didn’t care much about who this young master was, nor did she pay it any mind.
However, seeing the cautious glance Derek Jacobs shot her way, she could easily guess that it was the child adopted from the orphanage.
“Having a brother is nice,” she said.
Since the original novel hadn’t described this child much, Juno didn’t even know if he was older or younger than her.
She only said this to put Derek’s mind at ease.
Sure enough, Derek breathed a sigh of relief.
Ignoring the servant’s curious gaze, he ushered Juno into the villa.
“Perfect, the family of four is all together!
Your mother will definitely be thrilled!”
Juno offered a well-behaved smile, though it looked incredibly strange paired with the thick, gaudy makeup caking her face.
As they reached the doorway, Derek turned back to look at the girl.
He originally wanted to tell her to wash it off, but upon meeting those clear, dark eyes that resembled a newborn fawn’s, he swallowed his words.
A flash of heartache crossed his eyes.
It was his fault as a father to begin with.
How could he let his child feel even the slightest bit of rejection now?
He believed his wife wouldn’t mind either.
As long as their daughter was back, that was all that mattered.
They could slowly teach her other things later.
If they couldn’t teach her well, they would just take care of her for the rest of her life.
“Juno, your mother has been crying and fussing so much these past two days that she made herself sick…
so I didn’t ask her to come down and greet you.
It’s not that she doesn’t welcome you.
If she knew you were back, she would be overjoyed, and her illness would disappear in an instant!
“And then there’s…
Jayden.
He’s five years older than you.
He’s an obedient and sensible kid.
If you don’t mind, you can just call him your brother, okay?”
With every sentence Derek spoke, he would cautiously turn back to glance at her.
Juno didn’t know who she used to be in her original world, whether she had parents, or if she had any relatives, but she knew her cold, hard heart seemed to be melting at this moment.
She had long known that Mr.
and Mrs.
Jacobs in the original novel actually loved their daughter dearly and would give up everything for the original host.
It was a rather wondrous feeling.
“Where is the bathroom?” she asked.
“Hm?” Derek paused on the first-floor stairs, looking back at his daughter before pointing to the end of the corridor.
“That one is a guest bathroom.
You also have a private one in your room on the second floor.”
“Wait for me a second!” Juno sprinted to the guest bathroom on the first floor, desperate to scrub off the heavy makeup on her face.
Since Mr.
and Mrs.
Jacobs were treating her so well, she figured she ought to show some filial piety while completing her mission.
It wouldn’t do to scare the sick Mrs.
Jacobs with this horrendous, vampiric makeup!
Turning on the faucet, Juno vigorously scrubbed at her haphazardly drawn raccoon eyes.
To her dismay, she found that the eyeliner’s waterproof effect was incredibly good.
The more she washed and rubbed, the worse the raccoon eyes became.
What was originally just thick black eyeliner covering her eyelids had now spread across half her face.
“Damn it, it won’t wipe off!”
Juno grabbed a wad of toilet paper, dipping it in water and scrubbing away.
Just as she leaned close to the mirror, fighting a desperate battle against the smudged black stains, a face suddenly appeared above hers in the reflection.
It was an icy, unsmiling face.
Juno froze.
A strange sense of familiarity spread from the depths of her heart.
She couldn’t tell if it was aversion, joy, or something else entirely.
