“It’s still nowhere close.” Li Yi shook his head.

“A tiny deviation can lead to a huge error. Machines have to be even more precise than humans. Otherwise, they have no value in existing.”

As he spoke, his eyes never left the screen, his fingers continuing to tap across the keyboard.Full novel: The Villainous Second Female Lead Was Mistaken for the Heroine by the Male Lead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Watching him, Yu Wan suddenly remembered what he had said before.

“To let everyone enjoy the convenience that technology brings.”

“To make this world just a little bit better.”

At the time, she had thought those were just lines he used to pursue girls.

But now, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

This person…

He really seemed to believe what he was saying.

At six in the evening, Li Yi finally finished for the day.

Leaning back in his chair, he let out a long breath and rubbed his tired, aching eyes.

“You worked hard today.” He looked at Yu Wan. “We’ve gathered almost all the data we need. The rest is algorithm optimization.”

Yu Wan nodded, took off the gloves, and rubbed her stiff arms and numb legs.

She was exhausted, but there was also a unique sense of fulfillment.

Walking over to the window, she gazed at the sunset outside.

The lingering glow painted the entire sky orange and crimson, while the distant buildings were bathed in a layer of golden light.

“The sunset is beautiful,” Yu Wan said softly.

Li Yi walked over beside her and looked out in the same direction.

The two of them stood shoulder to shoulder by the window without saying a word.

The sun slowly sank below the horizon, and the sky gradually darkened.

【System, has the heroine’s affection gone up?】Yu Wan heard Li Yi ask.

【No!】

【Why not?】Li Yi sounded on the verge of breaking down again.【Didn’t you say that men are most attractive when they’re serious about their work?】

【How should I put this?】The System replied thoughtfully.【Girls generally do like watching men work seriously, but if that serious man is making her work, that’s a different story…】

【…】

【Still, don’t worry. After all, Host, this is how you always are when you’re working. Her affection didn’t increase, but at least it didn’t decrease!】The System even tried to comfort him.

【…】

Seeing Li Yi wilt all over again, Yu Wan found it rather amusing.

After thinking it over, she decided to comfort him anyway.

“Li Yi.”

He turned to look at her.

“Hm?”

Yu Wan thought for a moment before speaking earnestly.

“Thank you for today.”

Li Yi blinked in surprise.

“Thank me for what?”

“Thank you for letting me realize…” Yu Wan paused. “…that this world can also be like this.”

She spoke very softly, yet every word was perfectly clear.

Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, she seemed to radiate a different kind of brilliance.

Li Yi stared at her, his heart skipping a beat.

“N No, no, no, no, you’re welcome,” he replied, stumbling over his words.

After leaving Singularity Technology, Yu Wan practically floated all the way home from work.

In places she had never known about, the world had already changed so much.

Did that mean…

Her own fate could change as well?

Still, it felt like she had forgotten something…

It wasn’t until she climbed the stairs to the seventh floor and inserted her key into the lock that she suddenly remembered.

Gu Chiyuan!

Gu Chiyuan had asked what time she got off work!

He had even said he might come pick her up!

Yu Wan hurriedly pulled out her phone and realized it was already 7:05.

But…

There wasn’t a single message from Gu Chiyuan.

She hesitated. Had he really just been asking casually?

Forget it. She pushed the matter to the back of her mind.

When she opened the door, she was surprised to find that the master bedroom door was standing wide open as well.

A man stood inside with his back to the entrance, hanging clothes in the wardrobe.

Yu Wan froze where she stood.

Wu Jiao had only moved out a few days ago, and the master bedroom had already been rented again?

Hearing the sound at the door, the man turned around.

He looked to be in his twenties, fairly tall, and dressed in a simple white shirt.

His features were well proportioned, and he carried a gentle, refined air, like the typical office worker one might see in a business district.

When he saw Yu Wan, he smiled.

“Hello.” His voice was warm and polite. “You must be the tenant in the second bedroom. The landlord told me a young woman lives there.”

Yu Wan nodded, still slightly bewildered.

“You’re… the new tenant?”

“Yes. Lin Lang.” He walked over and extended his hand. “I just moved in today. We’ll be roommates from now on, so I look forward to getting along with you.”

Yu Wan shook his hand.

“Hello, I’m Yu Wan.”

Lin Lang’s manner was just right. It was neither perfunctory nor overly enthusiastic to the point of making people uncomfortable.

“I work for a company nearby,” Lin Lang continued naturally after withdrawing his hand. “I usually get off work around seven every evening, so I probably won’t make too much noise.”

Huh, seven as well?

The thought briefly crossed Yu Wan’s mind before she dismissed it.

There were plenty of companies nearby. Getting off work at seven was perfectly normal.

While they were talking, the sound of movement came from the front door.

The key slid into the lock.

The door opened. Then came a pair of familiar footsteps.

The young couple had returned.

The man walked in first, wearing a food delivery uniform and carrying a plastic bag containing two boxed meals.

The woman followed behind him in a department store sales uniform. Her makeup was heavy, and her foundation was already beginning to cake.

The moment they entered, they saw Lin Lang standing in the living room.

The woman’s eyes immediately lit up.

The man’s gaze, however, was filled with scrutiny.

“Well, well,” he said in an odd, mocking tone. “Got a newcomer, huh?”

“Hello, I’m Lin Lang.” Lin Lang warmly extended his hand toward them.

The man merely snorted with a laugh and made no move to shake it.

Instead, the woman enthusiastically reached out her own hand.

“Hello! I’m…”

“Come on! Weren’t you just saying you were starving?”

The man grabbed his girlfriend and pulled her toward their room.

As he passed Yu Wan, his eyes lingered on her for a second.

Yu Wan pressed her lips together. Just like before, that look made her uncomfortable.

The two entered their room, and the door slammed shut with a loud bang.

The living room fell silent.

“Who are those two?” Lin Lang asked, somewhat puzzled.

“They’re a couple who moved in a little over two months ago. They both live in that room,” Yu Wan explained.

“I see.” Lin Lang looked thoughtfully toward the bedroom door.

After hesitating for a moment, Yu Wan finally spoke.

“Well… I should probably warn you. They might be a little noisy at night.”

“Noisy?” Lin Lang looked at her.

Yu Wan carefully chose her words.

“I mean… um… that kind of noise between a couple. The soundproofing in this apartment is really bad.”

Lin Lang was momentarily stunned before realization dawned on him.

“Oh.” He nodded, his expression barely changing. “I understand.”

Wasn’t his reaction a little too calm?

“Aren’t you worried?” Yu Wan couldn’t help asking.

Lin Lang smiled, sounding completely relaxed.

“There’s nothing to worry about.” He looked at Yu Wan. “And you don’t need to worry either.”

Yu Wan: “…?”

Yu Wan soon found out exactly what he meant by that.

At 9:20 the next morning, someone suddenly began pounding on the front door.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The knocking was loud and urgent, as though they intended to break the door down.

“Open up! Neighborhood Office and Police!”

Yu Wan was brushing her teeth in the bathroom and poked her head out in confusion.

To her surprise, Lin Lang was already standing by the entrance.

He smiled faintly at Yu Wan before calmly opening the front door.

Two uniformed officials stood outside.

One wore a police uniform, while the other wore a Neighborhood Office vest.

“Nobody move!” the police officer said. “We’ve received a report that this apartment has been illegally partitioned, creating a serious fire safety hazard. We’re here to verify the situation.”
