Their lips parted.

Amy's cheeks were burning. Her eyes, misty and shy, looked like they were filled with crushed starlight. She didn't let go; instead, she pressed herself harder into Leon's embrace, as if trying to squeeze out every ounce of past fear through the hug.

Whistles and good-natured laughter broke out around them. She buried her head even deeper into his chest, like an ostrich finding sanctuary.

Leon felt the front of his shirt soak through with her warm tears. He didn't speak. He simply stroked her blonde hair, offering silent comfort while his other hand remained in his pocket.

His fingertips traced the cold, hard outline of the Desert Eagle. The gun was heavy, its solid weight exuding a sense of raw, unreasonable violence.

In his arms was a warm, soft lover. In his pocket was a cold killing machine. The contrast was strange, but it brought him an immense sense of peace. In the apocalypse, tenderness and slaughter were separated only by a single thought.

His gaze swept calmly over the camp. The terror on the survivors' faces had faded, replaced by curiosity and the natural awe people felt for the strong.

Shane had already holstered his shotgun, but his stance remained tense. His scrutiny was undisguised. Leon remained unperturbed; he knew that in this world, strength was the only passport that mattered.

The three walker corpses still oozing black blood were the only credentials he needed.

"Alright, let's go inside," Leon said. His voice was soft, yet it carried an unquestionable authority.

He led Amy toward the center of the camp. The crowd automatically parted to make a path for them.

"Leon..." Amy spoke softly, her voice thick from crying.

"Hmm?"

"My sister... Andrea. She went into the city for supplies and hasn't come back yet."

"She'll be fine," Leon answered firmly.

He knew Andrea was safe. She was currently in the middle of a narrow escape with Rick and Glenn, but there was no need to tell Amy that. He just needed to soothe her.

"Trust me, she'll be back soon."

His confident tone seemed to work. The unease in Amy's heart settled, and she leaned closer to him as they reached the campfire.

Dale climbed down from the roof of the RV. The old man wore a gentle but cautious smile.

"Welcome, child," Dale said. He looked at their clasped hands, then toward the corpses in the distance. His eyes were full of silent questions.

"Thank you," Leon responded with a polite nod.

He knew Dale was the conscience of the camp. To integrate, he didn't need to be everyone's best friend, but showing goodwill to the key figures was a necessary rule of survival.

Amy pulled Leon down onto a piece of dry wood. She wouldn't leave his side, her hands clinging to his arm.

"Are you hungry? Thirsty?" Amy asked, her blue eyes searching his face. "I'll get you something."

"No, I'm fine."

Leon could feel the changes from the Super Physique. His body's need for sustenance was much lower than an average person's. He surveyed the camp—the numb expressions, the exhausted poses.

No order. No hope. Just existing.

He intended to change that. He wouldn't just depend on this group; he would forge them into a blade.

"Leon, what are you thinking about?" Amy asked, shaking his arm gently.

Leon snapped back to reality. He reached out and wiped a stray tear from her eye.

"I was thinking that I'll never let you be afraid again."

The simple promise made Amy's eyes redden again. She sniffled and leaned her head on his shoulder. "With you here, I'm not afraid of anything."

Sunlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows over them. For a moment, time slowed. The other survivors watched them with envy or nostalgia. In a desperate world, such a scene was a luxury.

The tranquility didn't last.

WOO—WOO—WOO—

A piercing, sharp alarm wailed from the valley entrance. The sound was like a horn from hell, shattering the warmth of the camp.

"Oh my God!"

"What is that? Is it a horde?"

Panic spread like a virus. Survivors scrambled for cover, screaming.

"Don't run! Grab your weapons!" Shane's roar boomed. He grabbed his shotgun, veins bulging in his neck. "Women and children, hide behind the vehicles! Move!"

In the chaos, Shane showed the decisiveness of a cop. Amy trembled, her grip on Leon's arm so tight her knuckles turned white.

"Don't be afraid," Leon said.

He didn't move. He didn't even stand up. He just held Amy tighter, shielding her with his body. There wasn't a trace of panic on his face because he knew exactly what was happening.

It wasn't a horde. It was Rick returning in the most high-profile, foolish way possible.

A flashy red Dodge Challenger roared into view, the alarm blaring from its speakers.

"What the hell is this?" Shane cursed, freezing as he saw the car.

The car fishtailed to a stop at the edge of the camp. Behind it followed a blue box truck. Glenn jumped out of the driver's seat, a baseball cap low on his head, his face lit with the adrenaline of a narrow escape.

"Hey! Guys! Look what I brought back!" Glenn tapped the roof of the car, oblivious to the panic he had caused.

The truck stopped, and Andrea was the first to jump out. When she saw Amy safe in Leon's arms, her exhaustion vanished.

"Amy!"

"Sister!"

The two sisters shouted across the clearing, but the true highlight was yet to come. Morales and T-Dog stepped out, followed finally by a tall man in a sheriff's uniform.

Rick Grimes stepped out of the vehicle and looked around the unfamiliar camp, his eyes searching.

Time hit the pause button.

Lori froze. Her mouth opened, her eyes wide with a shock so profound it looked like she was seeing a ghost.

Carl stood still for half a second. Then, he screamed with everything he had: "Dad!"

The cry exploded in the silent camp. Every eye shifted to Shane.

Shane's face drained of color. His confidence and authority crumbled the moment he saw Rick. He looked pale, panicked, and even a little afraid. His hand holding the gun trembled.

Leaning against the wood, Leon took it all in. He patted Amy's back, a faint smile playing on his lips.

The protagonist had arrived. The real show was beginning.
