Old General Mu pressed his lips together, a strange look in his eyes.

Mu Niannian?

His own granddaughter actually had the surname Mu. Somehow, he felt that the name sounded wonderful!Full novel: The Whole Family Reads My Mind While I Chew My Bottle and Watch Them Deal with Scumbags — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

From now on, she would be called Mu Niannian.

Mu Anguo’s brows drew even tighter, and his fists clenched unconsciously.

What did his father look like?

His eyesight had always been poor. When he was little, he could still make out the blurry figure of his father, tall and powerful. But now, all he could see before him was a vast expanse of white.

He wondered what his father looked like these days.

He could not help wishing that the soft little voice would say a few more words.

“Second Son, what do you think? From now on, your sister’s daughter will take our surname and be called Mu Niannian. How does that sound?”

Mu Anguo turned toward his son and asked as if it were merely an offhand question.

Mu Anguo was startled, then replied, “Mm, good!”

Old General Mu immediately broke into a smile, seeming to grow several years younger all at once.

“The name sounds nice, too!” The usually aloof young man rarely spoke so many words. The corners of his lips curved slightly, making him breathtakingly handsome.

As soon as the young man finished speaking, the Little Milk Dumpling began squealing excitedly.

【Second Maternal Uncle is so beautiful, so handsome…】

Whether intentionally or not, the Little Milk Dumpling sneakily stretched out her tiny hand toward the young man’s face.

Perhaps because the young man’s skin was too delicate, one swipe of her little claw left a bloody line across Mu Anguo’s face.

The young man’s brows knit together slightly, and his unfocused eyes instinctively shifted to the side.

In his daze, he seemed to see some swaying object.

Mu Anguo was so bewildered that he even forgot the pain on his face.

“Oh dear, my little ancestor! How did you scratch your Second Maternal Uncle’s face open?” Old General Mu’s expression changed slightly, and his heart gave a nervous jolt.

His second son had an eccentric temperament. Worried that the boy might lose his temper, Old General Mu was just about to explain when Mu Anguo’s voice reached him.

“Father, I’m fine,” Mu Anguo said softly.

A faint trace of tenderness appeared in his dim eyes.

“Don’t worry. I won’t let Niannian—”

He had not yet finished the word “come” when he realized that something was wrong.

“What did you say?” Old General Mu’s eyes instantly widened. He stared at his second son in disbelief.

Mu Anguo reached out and accurately found the Little Milk Dumpling’s head.

Little Niannian stretched her head forward and rubbed it against Mu Anguo’s hand.

Mu Anguo’s palm was warm, and somehow, warmth spread through his heart as well.

“Father, now that Niannian and Lan’er have returned home, the An household probably won’t give up easily.”

Mu Anguo had been clever since childhood. Even though his eyesight was poor, he had someone read books aloud to him every day.

Old General Mu was a straightforward man. The moment he heard this, he flew into a rage.

He raised his large hand and was about to slam it down on the table, but then he suddenly noticed the Little Milk Dumpling in his arms. He forced down his anger and said, “That damned bastard dares!”

“What did they do to my perfectly good daughter, tormenting her until she became like that? What did he say when he married my daughter back then?”

“He said he would treat my daughter well. He said they would be together for the rest of their lives, with only one wife. Do you know that when I went there, your sister didn’t even have a single person by her side!”

Though he was suppressing his fury, Old General Mu’s eyes were still bloodshot.

He was such a towering, burly man, yet when he saw the blood beneath his daughter, it had not even dried.

The sight of An Taidi bringing a group of people to force his daughter into submission had nearly driven him mad.

And then there were his granddaughter’s words…

“I’m taking back my four grandsons, too!” Old General Mu’s gaze turned cold, his voice utterly resolute.

【No, don’t! Those four aren’t my real brothers!】

Mu Niannian had been listening happily, but the moment she heard Old General Mu say that, she became frantic.

Unfortunately, she could not speak, so she could only rant furiously in her heart.

【Those four are all bastards! Maternal Grandfather treated the four of them so well back then, but when he died, not one of them even came to collect his body. They even dipped steamed buns in his blood and ate them…】

The hearts of Old General Mu and his son trembled in unison.

Old General Mu pulled Little Nianbao into his arms, an indescribable emotion appearing in his eyes.

Mu Anguo pressed his lips together. A cold, sharp glint appeared in his unfocused eyes.

“Father, let’s discuss this matter later. After all, they’re all An Taidi’s sons. Perhaps they don’t even want to come here,” Mu Anguo said, suppressing his emotions.

【Second Maternal Uncle is so wise. But they really do want to come. After all, the Mu Family is rich!】

【The An household is just like sheep-dung beans—shiny on the outside. They rely entirely on my mother’s dowry to get by!】

After the Little Milk Dumpling finished speaking, she yawned, and her eyes grew hazy.

Her maternal grandfather’s embrace was so warm and comforting, and it made her feel so safe…

But just then, her stomach suddenly began to growl.

Mu Niannian immediately felt a hunger that clawed at her insides.

【My tummy’s so hungry~】

The Little Milk Dumpling opened her mouth, intending to make a couple of perfunctory cries.

Then she heard Mu Anguo’s voice.

“Father, babies get hungry quickly. Have you arranged for wet nurses?”

“Of course I have. I found eight wet nurses. When the time comes, our little Nianbao can choose whichever one she likes best!” A smile immediately appeared on Old General Mu’s imposing face.

Without another word, he carried Nianbao and headed outside.

Wait!

Old General Mu suddenly stopped and turned to look at his son.

Why had his son suddenly become so concerned about his granddaughter? That was not like him at all!

Unless… his son could hear his granddaughter’s thoughts too!

Old General Mu had originally thought he was the only one who could hear them. Now, he instantly became unsettled.

【Why isn’t Maternal Grandfather leaving? Hurry up, I’m so hungry! Your precious granddaughter wasn’t eaten by that old woman from the An household, but she’s about to be starved to death by you!】

Old General Mu’s heart trembled. Almost at the same moment, he saw his son’s hand trembling slightly.

Sure enough, his son could hear his granddaughter’s thoughts too.

Old General Mu’s expression turned solemn. He carried his little Nianbao off to eat first.

The rest could wait!

Mu Anguo did not follow them. Instead, he called toward the outside, “Guo Yang, come here for a moment!”

Guo Yang had grown up alongside Mu Anguo, and his eyesight was nearly as poor as Mu Anguo’s.

“Have someone investigate the An household in secret. Be careful, and don’t alert them…”

After a pause, Mu Anguo continued, “Have the Shadow Guard investigate it.”

Guo Yang froze. The Shadow Guard was their Second Master’s trump card, something he ordinarily would never use.

“Yes!” Guo Yang answered before turning and leaving.

Mu Anguo stood beside the window, slowly raising his pair of empty eyes. A breeze lifted his black hair, making him look almost like an immortal.

If anyone had seen this scene at that moment, they surely would have been dazzled by it.

A short while later, eight wet nurses stood in a row inside Madam Mu’s room.

Mu Anguo carried his little granddaughter over and handed the child to Madam Mu.

【My meal, my big meal!】

The Little Milk Dumpling’s large eyes had turned slightly red.
