Su Wanwan had not slept so peacefully in a very long time.
Stretching comfortably, she was immediately hit by a wave of cold air and shivered.
She quickly burrowed back under the blanket.
Touching her stomach, she realized she was hungry.
After getting dressed, she closed her eyes.
With a thought, she entered the laboratory.
The laboratory was completely unaffected by the outside world.
The temperature remained perfectly comfortable year-round.
Su Wanwan headed straight to the laboratory restroom and freshened up.
Being able to use running water and a flush toilet in the backward 1970s made her feel incredibly fortunate.
Having the laboratory made life much easier.
The only problem was that this body was too small.
Everything required extra effort.
Just after washing up, she heard the sound of running footsteps outside.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Su Wanwan immediately returned to her room.
The door was pushed open forcefully.
Su Cuifen walked in.
She shot Su Wanwan a malicious glance but said nothing before stepping aside.
Confused, Su Wanwan watched as Maodan entered carrying a snake dangling from a stick.
Goudan peeked through the doorway behind him.
Well, well.
They were here to scare her again.
That wasn’t right.
This trick usually terrified her.
Why wasn’t it working today?
Since snakes hibernated during winter, the children had gone through considerable effort to find one near the field ridges.
They were afraid of snakes themselves.
But whenever they imagined the ugly freak screaming in terror, their courage mysteriously returned.
Looking at their disappointed expressions, Su Wanwan nearly laughed.
Children really were children.
Did they think such a simple trick could frighten her?
Back in her village during her previous life, she had been famous for being fearless.
Then she remembered.
The original Su Wanwan had actually died because of these siblings.
Her anger instantly surged.
Without hesitation, she walked over, grabbed the snake from the stick, and swung it toward Maodan.
“AHHH!”
Maodan screamed.
He turned and tried to run.
But Su Wanwan wasn’t about to let him escape.
She stuck out a foot and tripped him.
He crashed heavily onto the floor.
His forehead struck the ground.
“Ow! Ow! It hurts!”
As he wailed, Su Wanwan ran to the door and slammed it shut.
Then she grabbed Goudan, who had been spying from the doorway, and dragged him inside as well.
No running off to report what happened.
The adults were probably all gone.
This was the perfect opportunity to teach these little black-hearted brats a lesson.
Su Cuifen stood frozen in shock.
She stared blankly as Su Wanwan carried out one outrageous action after another.
Only when the door was locked did she finally react.
She immediately rushed toward it.
Su Wanwan sneered.
Picking up the broom beside the door, she watched coldly.
Already ugly to begin with, Su Wanwan now held a snake in one hand and a broom in the other.
The sight was terrifying.
Despite being only seven years old and not particularly tall, she radiated an intimidating presence.
Su Cuifen was so frightened she didn’t dare move forward.
Goudan burst into tears and hid behind his sister.
Maodan scrambled to his feet, clutching his forehead.
He hurried to stand beside Su Cuifen.
Protecting her brothers, Su Cuifen shouted nervously,
“Y-What do you want?”
The frozen snake had begun moving again.
Holding it firmly behind the head, Su Wanwan slowly advanced.
“Ugly freak, don’t come any closer!”
Seeing the snake flick its tongue as it approached, Maodan nearly lost control.
In a cold voice, Su Wanwan asked,
“Oh? Aren’t you supposed to be fearless?
Otherwise, why do you always use snakes to scare me?”
The snake drew nearer.
The three children retreated until they were backed into a corner.
Even Su Cuifen was trembling.
Still, she stubbornly tried to act tough.
“Ugly freak, you’d better let us go.
Otherwise, once your mother gets married and leaves, you’ll be sorry!”
Su Wanwan frowned.
She had never heard anything about Ye Xiu’e remarrying.
Pressing the snake closer, she demanded,
“What do you mean my mother is getting married?
What do you know?
Talk!
Or I’ll let the snake bite you!”
Su Cuifen was close to tears.
As the eldest sibling, she desperately tried to stay composed.
But she no longer dared stay silent.
“I-I heard my parents talking.
They said your mother is a widow and she’ll be getting married soon.”
Su Wanwan knew that Ye Xiu’e and the original Su Youcai had loved each other deeply.
There was no way she would suddenly remarry without warning.
After a moment’s thought, she realized this was probably another scheme from her uncle’s family.
No matter what they planned, however, they had no right to decide Ye Xiu’e’s future.
Raising the broom, Su Wanwan threatened,
“What else has your family done?
Tell me everything.
If you don’t, I’ll beat you to death!”
“WAAAH!”
Maodan finally broke down completely.
Crying so hard he could barely speak, he blurted out,
“Mom said if you died, our family would finally have good days! Sister already pushed you into the river! Why didn’t you die?! WAAAH!”
Su Cuifen’s eyes widened in horror.
This was a huge secret.
She never realized Maodan had overheard it.
Quickly, she covered his mouth.
Then she looked toward Su Wanwan.
Sure enough, Su Wanwan’s expression had become even colder.
Originally, she had assumed Su Cuifen simply pushed her into the river as a childish prank.
But judging from Maodan’s words, they had actually wanted her dead.
Sure enough.
Evil had nothing to do with age.
These siblings were rotten to the core.
Still, one thing confused her.
Why would her death lead to a better life for their family?
What connection was there?
While Su Wanwan was deep in thought, Su Cuifen quietly shifted sideways.
She intended to make a run for it.
The moment Su Wanwan noticed, she threw the snake directly at her.
“AHHHHHH!”
Su Cuifen shrieked and jumped away.
In her panic, she forgot to watch where she was running.
She slammed into a low table.
The thermos flask sitting on top tipped over.
At the same time, she lost her balance and fell.
Freshly boiled water poured from the thermos and splashed across her body.
“AAAAAH!”
A bloodcurdling scream echoed throughout the entire Su family courtyard.
At that exact moment, Ye Xiu’e was returning from the mountains.
Hearing the scream, she thought it was Wanwan.
Her heart nearly stopped.
She sprinted home.
When she reached the room, she found the door locked from the inside.
Panicked, she pounded on it.
“Wanwan! Wanwan, what’s wrong?
Open the door for Mom!”
Inside, Su Wanwan froze.
The moment she realized it was Ye Xiu’e, delight replaced her alarm.
Quickly, she tossed the broom beside Su Cuifen.
Then she scampered over and opened the door.
The second the door opened, Ye Xiu’e crouched down and inspected her daughter.
Seeing that Wanwan was unharmed, she breathed a sigh of relief.
But the screaming inside continued.
Confused, she looked into the room.
The sight shocked her.
The snake had already escaped through a gap in the doorway.
Su Cuifen lay on the floor crying in agony.
Maodan and Goudan still had tears streaming down their faces.
The moment the door opened, the two boys abandoned their sister and fled.
They didn’t even dare look back.
The mother and daughter were terrifying!
One waved knives around.
The other used snakes.
Run!
Run for your lives!
Ye Xiu’e ignored them.
She hurried over and helped Su Cuifen sit up.
One look made her heart sink.
The left side of Su Cuifen’s face and neck had been badly scalded.
Her clothes were soaked across the back as well.
There was no telling how much hot water had reached her skin underneath.
Large blisters rapidly formed.
The skin turned red and swollen.
The injury looked horrifying.
