Lillian stood in front of Adrian, staring at him as though she had just discovered something fascinating.
Adrian remained still.
“You’re handsome.”
He sighed.
“You said that already.”
“I know.”
She smiled.
“But you’re still handsome.”
Adrian looked at her flushed cheeks.
“How much did you drink?”
Lillian thought seriously.
“I don’t remember.”
“That’s not reassuring.”
She laughed.
Then suddenly swayed.
Adrian immediately reached out and caught her by the arm.
“Careful.”
Lillian looked down at his hand.
Then up at him.
“Your hands are nice.”
Adrian was speechless.
He had dealt with difficult business partners, aggressive investors, angry clients, and complicated negotiations.
None of them had prepared him for a drunk woman complimenting his hands in a bathroom.
“Lillian.”
“Hm?”
“Where is the person you came with?”
“Ethan.”
“Yes.”
“I don’t want him.”
“Why?”
“He’s annoying.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Did he do something?”
Lillian’s expression changed.
“He asked me an inappropriate question.”
Adrian’s eyes became slightly colder.
“What question?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t want to talk about him.”
Adrian didn’t press.
Instead, he looked at her carefully.
“You should go back to your friends.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want to.”
She stepped closer.
“I want you.”
Adrian froze.
“Lillian, you’re drunk.”
“I know.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying.”
“I do.”
She pointed at him.
“You.”
Adrian rubbed his forehead.
“This is a problem.”
“My name is Lillian.”
“I know.”
She frowned.
“No.
I mean…”
She placed a hand against her chest.
“My name is Lillian Moore.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Wow.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“That’s a nice name.”
Her eyes brightened.
“You like it?”
“Yes.”
“I like your name too.”
“You don’t know my name.”
“Then tell me.”
“Adrian.”
She repeated it softly.
“Adrian.”
He nodded.
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“That’s a nice name too.”
Adrian couldn’t help smiling.
“You really are drunk.”
“I told you am not drunk.”
She suddenly leaned against him.
Adrian steadied her.
“Can you walk?”
“Of course.”
She took a step.
Then another.
Her shoulder bumped into him.
Adrian caught her again.
She looked offended.
“I can walk.”
“Clearly.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“You don’t believe me.”
“I believe you’re trying.”
She laughed.
For some reason, her laugh made him smile.
Adrian looked at his phone.
He couldn’t take her back to Ethan in this condition.
He also couldn’t leave her alone.
He called his driver.
“Bring the car around.”
Lillian looked at him.
“Where are we going?”
“A hotel.”
“Why?”
“The club doesn’t have rooms.”
“Oh.” New chapters come out on g.com first.
She seemed satisfied with that explanation.
Adrian helped her out of the bathroom.
As they walked through the hallway, Lillian kept looking at him.
“What?”
“You’re handsome.”
“Again?”
“Yes.”
They reached the entrance.
The driver pulled the car around.
Adrian opened the back door.
Lillian entered.
He followed.
She immediately leaned against the seat.
Then looked at him.
“Adrian.”
“Hm?”
“I like you.”
He studied her.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Very sure.”
The car pulled away from the club.
The city lights passed outside the window.
Lillian’s eyelids became heavier.
She slowly rested her head against the seat.
Adrian adjusted the air conditioning.
“Are you comfortable?”
“Yes.”
She looked at him again.
“You’re taking care of me.”
“Because you’re drunk.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I know.”
She smiled.
“You’re nice.”
Adrian looked out the window.
He wasn’t sure why he was doing this.
He barely knew her.
Yet he couldn’t leave her alone.
Maybe it was because he had seen her at the airport earlier.
Maybe it was because despite her delicate appearance, she had something unusual about her.
Or maybe it was simply because she needed help tonight.
The car continued toward the hotel.
Lillian slowly closed her eyes.
Before falling asleep, she murmured,
“Adrian…”
“Yes?”
“Don’t leave.”
He looked at her.
“I won’t.”
Her eyes closed.
Adrian sat quietly beside her.
For the first time, he wondered what kind of person she really was when she wasn’t drunk.
He had a feeling the woman in front of him was much more interesting than she appeared.
