Chapter 4: The World Before the Fall

The World's Greatest Hero Is Actually a Villain?

"Imperion, just what the hell is going on, and what are you fighting!?"

Recalling the images he had just seen, Ethan was in shock.

Beads of sweat enveloped his whole body as he was unable to process what had just happened.

Those portals, the beings who descended from them.

Even just a single one of them made him feel like his soul was going to be ripped to shreds from just looking at them.

"What the hell is that? Is this still the same book I read before dying?"

"Even Imperion at his peak should be able to be anywhere near that!?"

Muttering to himself, he reached for the diary and wanted to turn the next page.

Unfortunately, no matter what he did, the page just would not budge.

It seemed to have some sort of restriction.

Thinking of this, he looked at it with his Datafication ability.

[Name: Imperion’s old diary?

Class: Item

Rank: ???

Description: An unknown diary bound to Imperion’s soul. It seems to have certain restrictions before other pages can be read.]

Seeing this, he remained silent. Bound to his soul. It seemed another mystery had been added to his transmigration.

KnockknockKnock

"Ethan, if you don’t come out now, I’m coming in to drag you out."

"We have a lot of things to do today: the meeting at Elysium, the interview for the new orphanage."

"Now isn’t the time to be messing around!"

Interrupting his thoughts, a somewhat soft but angry voice came into his ears.

A voice that made his frown unknowingly recede, as a gentle smile came to his face.

Perhaps it was the original body’s own feelings, or the fact that she was his favourite character apart from Imperion.

"Lilith, is that really you?"

Recalling the way she died helplessly, unable to help the former Imperion achieve his goals, Ethan knew that she was more loyal to him than anyone.

And right now, since he had just come into this strange world, she was his best help in surviving and getting familiar with his current situation.

Whatever ’they’ were, or whatever he saw in that vision was, all that would have to wait, as right now, what he had to do was none other than get stronger and achieve his goal from his past life.

With this in mind, he dropped the diary back on the shelf as he stood up from the ground.

"Haha! Coming, Lilith! Go! I’ll be with you in a minute!"

Recalling Imperion’s behaviour from his memories, he gave his signature laugh as he wiped off the blood from his palms.

And Lilith, hearing this laugh from behind the door, couldn’t help but roll her eyes as she left.

Fortunately, he was awake.

[New Geneva]

"Fifty years ago, in the year 1980, the world as we know it was infected by what we call the God Particle. As a result, humans and beasts alike began to awaken all kinds of abilities."

"And while a majority of these abilities were weak or needed training, some were extremely powerful at the start, with abilities like solar flare, black hole manipulation, and time-stopping."

"Under this situation, a new era was forcefully created, one with abilities, one where powerful ability users were divided into heroes and villains."

"A situation which led to the first Ability World War of 1990, which directly led to the loss of 4 billion lives."

In an all-red sports car, Lilith drove while Ethan sat beside her, giving him a recap of world history.

With the windows down and her long silver hair flowing with the wind, she seemed to be particularly stunning, as her blood-red eyes alone were enough to capture the soul of any man.

However, Imperion, on the other hand, paid no heed to her or what she was saying. After all, not only had the original Imperion heard this story many times, but he, as a reader, already knew how things went.

"Yes, yes, Lilith, I already know this."

"The world war of 1990 went on for twenty years, in which countless heroes, villains, and civilians all died."

"It was not until the appearance of twelve people that the tide of the world changed."

"Headed by the world’s greatest hero, Imperion, these twelve people single-handedly stopped the war between both sides."

"And established the heroes of Elysium, serving as the protectors of all mankind and the final hope for humanity against evil!"

"Not only that, but with the passage of time, the surrounding countries joined together to form the United Human Federation and created the Hero Association."

"Villains also did not stand still, and all kinds of syndicates were created, as they each lay in wait for their chance to rise to the top."

"Come on, Lilith, this is basic knowledge; even a three-year-old in the federation knows this."

"Haha! Relax a bit! It’s fine!"

Saying this, he began to go through his memory, as he couldn’t understand why Lilith seemed a bit on edge regarding the fact that they were heading to Elysium.

"No, it’s not on edge; it’s more like disdain. When I mentioned the twelve people, there was definitely disdain in her eyes. Am I missing something?" he thought.

Fortunately, Lilith didn’t seem to notice anything as she continued to drive, speaking from time to time.

"True that any three-year-old might know this version, but you and I both know the truth."

"Most of those twelve aren’t worthy of being called heroes; everything they do is just for wealth and fame."

"Same with the United Human Federation. As weak as they are because you chose to spare them that time, they think they rule over all superheroes?"

"I heard they even plan to pass a new Superhuman Act in a month, limiting the actions of superheroes alike."

"Who do they think they are? If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have led our forces to attack the capital a long time ago!"

"Fortunately, D-Day is almost here! Just ten years, and all our plans will come to fruition!"

Boom!

"Our plan? Our forces? D-Day?"

"Imperion, you bastard! What is going on? And why the hell is your memory so incomplete!"

Listening to the words of Lilith, Ethan suddenly felt like he had lost his mind.
