Shawn didn’t dare stay any longer.
After dealing with Dominic, he immediately led his men away.
The sudden turn of events left Seraphina, Malcolm, and Helena completely stunned.
What had just happened?
Weren’t they supposed to be taken away?
How had Dominic been arrested instead?
The three of them turned toward Darius.
Everything had changed immediately after he gave Shawn his name.
Seraphina narrowed her eyes “Explain.” Darius smiled.
“It’s simple.
We didn’t have invitations, but we entered legally.
There was nothing wrong with us being here.” He continued calmly, “Dominic was the one causing trouble.
He used the security team to settle a personal score and disrupted the banquet in front of everyone.” Seraphina thought back to the crowd that had gathered around them.
Darius shrugged.
“Imagine what would happen if word of that reached the God of War.” “Someone deliberately causing a scene at his welcome banquet?” “Even a man like Dominic wouldn’t be able to get away with that.” Malcolm nodded as understanding dawned on him “I get it now.” “As long as we could prove that we entered legally, there was no reason for them to take us away.” Helena nodded as well “So that’s what happened.” Darius simply smiled.
But Seraphina continued watching him.
She still wasn’t entirely convinced.
Because somehow, things seemed to work out in Darius’s favour every time.
Seraphina felt that something was off, but there seemed to be no flaw in Darius’s explanation.
It sounded reasonable.
The moment Darius turned his head, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
He had heard what Dominic said to Seraphina just now.
This time, Dominic wouldn’t just be detained for a few days.
He would be going to prison.
The dinner was simple, but the people attending were anything but ordinary.
After Malcolm, Helena, and Seraphina took their seats, they didn’t dare move or speak too loudly.
“Mom, Dad, why are you so nervous?” Darius smiled.
“Relax.
Feel free to talk to people and make some connections.
Isn’t this a good opportunity?” Malcolm and Helena looked at each other.
But in the end, neither of them dared to move.
Seraphina tilted her head and looked at Darius curiously “You don’t seem afraid at all?” Darius’s calmness gave Seraphina an illusion.
It was almost as if he was already used to attending occasions like this.
Darius smiled “Why should I be afraid of them?” Seraphina thought about it for a while.
He must be used to it.
After all, the people he had faced in prison were probably far more dangerous than anyone here.
So, Seraphina didn’t ask any more questions.
More and more people arrived in the banquet hall.
Dean and several other important figures from Ravenmere City arrived one after another, immediately surrounded by the guests.
“Huh?” Helena suddenly looked around “Malcolm, I just noticed that everyone brought a gift.” She glanced toward Dean.
“Even Dean’s secretary is carrying gift boxes.
It looks like our family didn’t prepare anything.” Everyone looked around.
It was true.
Only their family had arrived empty-handed.
Everyone else had brought gifts.
The guests had gathered together, each waiting for the right moment to present theirs.
Meanwhile, Malcolm and his family sat alone in the corner, making their lack of gifts painfully obvious.
More and more people began looking in their direction.
Malcolm sighed, “We don’t understand these rules.” He shook his head “I didn’t realise we were supposed to prepare gifts.” Malcolm lowered his head.
Helena also said, “Yes.
Your grandfather and Sebastian only thought of it outside, so they brought a lot of gifts.” Seraphina sighed “This is my fault.
Before this, I wasn’t even sure we would be able to get in.” Malcolm nodded as well.
“Should I arrange for someone to send some gifts now?
There is still time.” Darius immediately refused.
“Don’t worry, Dad.
Maybe the God of War doesn’t like receiving gifts?” “No.
This is the bare minimum.” Seraphina replied.
Darius smiled.
“I have a feeling that the God of War might appreciate the people who didn’t bring gifts.
Do you believe me?” Seraphina shook her head “I don’t believe it.” “Have you seen that?
Is there anyone here who didn’t bring a gift?” “They either don’t understand the rules, or they simply don’t take the God of War seriously.” “Who are those people?
Why are they looking over here?” “What kind of background do they have?
How did they even get in?” Soon, everyone noticed Malcolm and his family.
Hearing the whispers around him, Malcolm wanted to find a hole and crawl into it.
What a humiliation.
This wasn’t the same as being embarrassed in front of people he knew.
Here, the humiliation felt even worse.
First of all, they had no status or presence among the people gathered here.
And on top of that, everyone attending was an important figure, while they were practically unknown.
It was a different kind of humiliation.
A psychological humiliation.
After a while, the banquet hall became restless.
Several people in military uniforms walked in, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
The man leading them wore a star on his shoulder.
He was a genuine major general.
The moment he entered, his presence filled the room, and no one dared to speak carelessly.
“Allow me to introduce myself.
I served in the Eastern Theater, code-named Wesley.” Wesley swept his domineering gaze across the crowd.
“I serve under the God of War.” Malcolm, Helena, and Seraphina shivered when they saw this.
“The God of War is terrifying…
Even one of his followers is a major general?” “Of course!
He’s Valoria’s only five-star general!” Helena was so anxious that she was almost in tears.
“We should have brought at least some gifts.
What if he thinks we’re being disrespectful?” Mayor Dean stepped forward and asked, “Major General Wesley, when will the God of War arrive?” Wesley smiled.
“Actually, the general is already at the banquet.” The room immediately fell silent.
“But the general prefers to keep a low profile.
He’s never liked attending events like this.” Wesley smiled again “Even I didn’t expect him to come tonight.” The moment Wesley said that, the entire banquet hall erupted.
Everyone began looking around, trying to figure out who the God of War was.
Wesley said sternly, “There’s no need to keep looking.
The general sees everything you say and do.” “Today, I’ll be speaking on his behalf.” “If you have anything, you can come to me.” The meaning behind his words was obvious.
Malcolm immediately whispered, “Isn’t that a clear hint?” The others seemed to understand it as well.
Soon, people began stepping forward with their gifts.
“Shane Wanshan of Ravenmere City presents a pair of luminous pearls to the God of War!” “The Ravenmere City Evergreen Chamber of Commerce presents two hundred-year-old wild ginseng to the God of War!” “The Ravenmere City Apocalypse Club presents a McLaren P1 to the God of War!”
