The child was so quiet—he must be up to no good.
Xu Shu hadn’t seen her daughter for quite a while, so, worried, she went to check on her in the bedroom.
She shouldn’t have looked—what she saw gave her quite a start.
As she pushed open the door, she was met by two round little heads.
“Huh?”
Where did this kid come from?
Such beautiful child!
Why couldn’t she recall seeing a child this pretty in the neighborhood?
“Xianxian, whose little one is this? You brought a little friend home to play—why didn’t you tell Mom?”
If their parents found out their child was missing, they’d be frantic.
“I found him!” Little Jiang Xian lifted his head and answered in a booming voice.
Xu Shu’s vision went black for a moment.
She’s in big trouble now.
It’s one thing for this little girl to pick up all sorts of strange things and hide them under her covers, but how could she have brought a person home?
“Where did you find him?”
She had to get him back to his family right away.
“I found him at the door!”
Her baby voice carried a hint of pride.
Xu Shu recalled that people had been coming and going next door for the past couple of days; new neighbors must have moved in.
Could this child be from next door?
“Xianxian, let’s take the little one back, okay? His mom and dad must be worried sick after not seeing him for so long.”
“No way!”
At those words, the little girl immediately turned around, spread her arms wide, and clung tightly to her new, soft, and fragrant little friend.
“Xianxian, be a good girl!”
Jiang Xian clung tightly to the person beside her, refusing to let go.
The little girl shook her head like a rattle: “No, no, no way.”
What she found was hers, and she wasn’t giving it back.
“Jiang Xianxian, don’t make me take action.” Xu Shu deliberately put on a stern face to scare her.
Jiang Xian’s little body trembled, but she still stubbornly clung to Shen Yan, refusing to let go.
“Auntie, you scared her!” Shen Yan furrowed his brow, tilted his little face up, and said to Xu Shu.
Watching him speak like a little adult, Xu Shu couldn’t help but find it amusing. She asked, “Sweetie, what’s your name?”
“Shen Yan.”
“Does Yan Yan know where his home is?” Xu Shu asked him with a smile.
Shen Yan nodded, his little face still stern.
Xu Shu held out her hand to him. “Then let Auntie take you home to find your mom and dad first. If they say it’s okay for you to keep playing with Xianxian, we’ll come back, okay?”
Shen Yan glanced at Jiang Xian.
Jiang Xian held him even tighter, as if afraid someone would snatch him away.
“No, you can’t go.”
With that, she turned her back on Xu Shu, stuck out her little bottom, and said, “You’re going to hit me!”
If she hit her, she absolutely couldn’t send the boy away.
Xu Shu was both exasperated and amused.
She patiently reasoned with her: “Xianxian, don’t be silly. Let’s help Yanyan find his mom and dad first, okay? “If you want him to stay and play with you, we can talk to his parents. If they agree, then we’ll let Yanyan stay, okay?”
“Will they agree?” Jiang Xian asked, tilting her little head up.
“Can I ask them to give Yanyan to me?” she followed up with another question.
This little girl really has some nerve.
Xu Shu: “You can ask Uncle and Auntie later.”
“Okay!”
The little girl nodded reluctantly.
If they don’t agree, she won’t give him back.
The two little humans held hands and followed Xu Shu downstairs.
Just as they reached the door, they ran into Ning Wanwan, who was coming over from next door.
“Hello! We’re the new neighbors next door!”
Ning Wanwan greeted them warmly with a beaming smile.
“It’s a bit sudden to drop by for the first time. Um, did my little guy run over to your place?”
Xu Shu spoke, feeling a bit awkward: “You must be Yan Yan’s mom, right? Yan Yan is at my place; we were just about to take him back.”
“Did that little guy cause you any trouble?”
“No, no.” Xu Shu shook her head hurriedly.
“Yan Yan is very well-behaved.”
As she spoke, Xu Shu stepped aside, revealing the two little bundles following behind her.
Ning Wanwan stared at the little boy in front of her—dressed in a floral skirt and with his hair full of little clips—and it took her a long moment to process what she was seeing.
Was this really her son?
Ning Wanwan pinched herself discreetly.
Was she seeing things?
Back then, she’d just been on a whim—she’d slipped a little dress on him while he was asleep, snapped a few secret photos, and posted them on her social media.
But this little rascal, upon discovering it, not only deliberately knocked over her favorite limited-edition eyeshadow palette, but also deleted the design draft she’d stayed up all night to finish—right in front of her.
What on earth was going on now?
He’d gone home with some little girl, and not only was he wearing a little dress and a hair clip, but he was even holding hands with her, looking all sweet and innocent.
She, as his mother, simply wasn’t good enough for him!
It’s true—sons are always raised for other families.
“Auntie, are you Yanyan’s mommy?” Jiang Xian blinked her big eyes, staring curiously at Ning Wanwan.
“That’s right, I’m that little rascal’s mommy. Sweetie, what’s your name?” Ning Wanwan bent down with a smile and greeted her.
“Auntie, my name is Xianxian!”
“Wow, so you’re Xianxian!”
The little girl looked at her with the utmost seriousness and said, “Auntie, can you give Yan Yan to me? I really like Yan Yan. Can I have him stay at my house to keep me company?”
“Sure, he’s all yours!”
The moment Ning Wanwan laid eyes on this sweet, adorable little girl, her heart melted. She couldn’t help but reach out and gently pinch her rosy little cheeks.
Sweet, soft little girls really are the most endearing.
Unlike her own little brat, who usually wouldn’t even let her give him a hug.
Shen Yan’s gaze quietly fell on his mom’s hand, and he silently pulled Jiang Xian a little closer behind him.
Away from his mom’s clutches.
Seeing this, Ning Wanwan couldn’t help but chuckle.
It was one thing for the little brat to refuse to let her pinch him, but did he really have a problem with her pinching someone else’s child?
Ning Wanwan turned her gaze back to Jiang Xian: “Auntie lives right next door. Come over and play whenever you have time, Xianxian. I’ll make you something delicious.”
The little girl’s eyes lit up the moment she heard the word “food.”
Licking her lips, she asked eagerly, “Can I go play today?”
“Of course.”
Watching Jiang Xian’s greedy little face, Ning Wanwan couldn’t stop grinning.
This little girl was just too funny.
Xu Shu was both exasperated and helpless.
How did she end up with such a gluttonous little girl?
She was constantly making her lose face.
Ning Wanwan took the two little ones back next door.
Her best friend breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the mother and daughter return.
She happened to get a phone call and had to leave on a bit of business.
Having just moved in, there were still so many things left to unpack. Ning Wanwan could only find some candy, so she smiled and called out to Jiang Xian, “Come on, Auntie’s treating you to some candy.”
Ning Wanwan grabbed a handful of candy and handed it to her.
“Shushu said I’m not supposed to take things from strangers.”
Though her little mouth said no, her tiny hands had already instinctively unbuttoned the little pocket on her chest.
Ning Wanwan was nearly dying of laughter.
How could this little girl be so adorable?
If only she had given birth to her.
She glanced again at her own little boy beside her.
Never mind, better not look!
What a headache…
