The footsteps outside the door stopped for a long time.

Liu Yi’an thought Fu Yanchen had left, but then she heard him sit down outside the door.

His voice came through the door, filled with a stubbornness she had never heard from him before.

“If you don’t eat, I won’t eat either. If you don’t come out, I’ll just keep waiting here.”

Liu Yi’an ignored him.

She walked over to the desk and opened her laptop.

The screen lit up. The encrypted files Zhou Yuping had sent were already fully transferred.

She opened the first file.

It contained the detailed records of her parents’ final mission.

The escort route, personnel assignments, and timeline were all clearly documented.

And the person who had signed off on the plan was

Fu Jianguo.

Liu Yi’an stared at the name, her fingers tapping against the keyboard.

In her previous life, she had died without ever knowing that the person who had caused her parents’ deaths had been living right beside her.

Her phone vibrated.

Zhou Yuping: “There’s a detail in the files. The route was changed once at the last minute.”

“The request for the change was personally signed by Fu Jianguo. The reason given was ‘to avoid the heavy rain area.’”

“But the weather records show that there was no heavy rain that day.”

Liu Yi’an tightened her grip on her phone.

So the location where her parents were ambushed had been deliberately arranged by Fu Jianguo.

He had sent them straight into a trap.

“There’s one more thing.” Zhou Yuping sent another message. “Among those who participated in the interception back then, one person survived.”

“He is currently being held in a military prison. I’ve already applied to interrogate him.”

Liu Yi’an replied, “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me.” Zhou Yuping typed. “Your parents’ case should have been properly investigated in the first place.”

Liu Yi’an put down her phone and continued going through the files.

The more she read, the colder she felt inside.

How much had Fu Jianguo gained over the years by exploiting her parents’ status?

Deputy Director of the Space Administration, head of the inspection group, authority over the approval of multiple major projects…

Every step of his rise had been built upon her parents’ remains.

And he had treated her as a tool, using her to strengthen the Fu family’s position.

In her previous life, after she married Fu Yanchen, Fu Jianguo had used her identity as the daughter of fallen national heroes to thrive within the system.

Even after she had been tortured to death, he had never shown the slightest trace of remorse.

Liu Yi’an shut down the computer.

Fu Yanchen’s voice came from outside the door.

“An’an, what are you doing?”

He seemed to be leaning against the door, his voice very close.

“I heard the sound of the keyboard. Are you working?”

Liu Yi’an didn’t answer.

“Don’t ignore me like this.” Fu Yanchen’s voice carried a hint of hurt. “I know you’re angry, but this really wasn’t my idea.”

“My dad insisted on…”

“Fu Yanchen.” Liu Yi’an interrupted him. “Do you know about the things your father has done?”

There was silence outside the door for several seconds.

“What things?”

“He killed my parents.”

Fu Yanchen shot to his feet. “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“If you don’t believe me, investigate it yourself.” Liu Yi’an’s tone was calm. “He approved the original route, and he also signed off on the last-minute change.”

“The location where my parents were ambushed was deliberately chosen by him.”

Rapid breathing could be heard from outside the door.

“Impossible…” Fu Yanchen’s voice trembled. “My dad would never do something like that.”

“Then go ask him.”

Liu Yi’an stood up and walked to the door.

“Ask him why he changed the route. Ask him whether there was actually any heavy rain that day.”

“Ask him how he has used my parents’ sacrifice to climb higher all these years.”

The breathing outside grew heavier and heavier.

Fu Yanchen said nothing. His hurried footsteps soon faded away.

Listening to him rush downstairs, Liu Yi’an curled her lips into a cold smile.

Let the father and son turn against each other first.

That would give her the perfect opportunity to escape.

A heated argument broke out downstairs.

“Dad! Explain yourself!”

“Explain what?” Fu Jianguo’s voice was icy.

“Was what happened to Uncle Liu and the others back then because of you…?”

“Smack!”

The sharp sound of a slap cut Fu Yanchen off.

“You ungrateful brat!” Fu Jianguo roared. “Have you been brainwashed by that woman?”

“I haven’t! I just want to know the truth!”

“The truth is that they sacrificed themselves for the country!”

“Then why was the route changed at the last minute? There wasn’t even any heavy rain that day!”

Silence fell downstairs for several seconds.

Fu Jianguo’s voice turned dangerous. “You investigated me?”

“I…”

“Did Liu Yi’an tell you to investigate me?”

Fu Yanchen said nothing.

“Good. Very good.” Fu Jianguo sneered. “Looks like I’ve been too merciful to her.”

“Butler, go collect her computer and phone.”

“And from today onward, don’t send any food to her room.”

“Let her go hungry for three days and see if she still dares to spout such nonsense.”

Liu Yi’an listened to these words without changing her expression.

Fu Jianguo had used the same tactic in her previous life.

She had been starved for five whole days and had nearly died in that room.

But this life was different.

She had prepared for this long ago.

Footsteps came up the stairs.

The butler arrived at the door with two servants.

“Miss Liu, Master ordered me to take away your electronic devices.”

Liu Yi’an opened the door.

The butler froze, clearly surprised that she was cooperating so readily.

“The computer is on the desk, and the phone is here.”

Liu Yi’an handed him her phone.

The butler took it and then had the servants go inside to carry out the computer.

“Miss Liu, Master also said…” He looked somewhat troubled. “You won’t be served any food for the next few days.”

“I know.” Liu Yi’an replied calmly.

The butler sighed and turned to leave.

The door was locked again.

Liu Yi’an walked over to the bed and lifted the mattress.

A spare phone was hidden underneath.

She had anticipated that Fu Jianguo would do this.

She turned on the phone, and a message from Zhou Yuping was already waiting for her.

“The interrogation results are in.”

“The survivor confessed. The insider back then really was Fu Jianguo.”

“He took five million from the other side and betrayed your parents’ whereabouts.”

Liu Yi’an tightened her grip on the phone.

Five million.

In Fu Jianguo’s eyes, her parents’ lives had been worth only five million.

“The evidence has been compiled.” Zhou Yuping sent another message. “Tomorrow, I’ll report it to my superiors.”

“Fu Jianguo won’t be able to escape this time.”

Liu Yi’an replied, “Thank you.”

She put down her phone and walked to the window.

In the courtyard, Fu Yanchen stood beneath a tree, looking up at her window.

Their eyes met across the distance.

Fu Yanchen opened his mouth, as though he wanted to say something.

Liu Yi’an turned around and drew the curtains.

She didn’t want to see him anymore.

In her previous life, she had been trapped here for three years, watching this courtyard every day, watching Fu Yanchen and Wei Qing constantly appear together like a loving couple.

She never wanted to experience that kind of despair again in this lifetime.

It was late at night.

Liu Yi’an lay in bed, but she couldn’t sleep.

Her mind was filled with the final images of her parents.

How had they died?

When they were ambushed, had they ever imagined that they would be betrayed by their own people?

Before they died, had they thought of her?

Liu Yi’an closed her eyes, tears slipping from the corners of them.

In her previous life, she had lived in a daze and had not even avenged her parents.

In this life, she would make Fu Jianguo pay the price.

A faint sound came from outside the window.

Liu Yi’an opened her eyes and saw the window being pushed open from outside.

A dark figure climbed inside.

She abruptly sat up and was just about to scream when the person spoke.

“It’s me.”

It was Fu Yanchen’s voice.
