The conversation between the two people outside the door fell word for word into Wen Xi’s ears. What sin had she committed to have to hear such disgusting words?

Wen Xi crossed her arms and rubbed them. Song Mingyuan, that scumbag, made her break out in goosebumps.

A small fry had failed and gone to call for backup to escalate things—but Wen Xi wasn’t afraid at all. She actually wanted to see how shameless they could get next.Full novel: Three Years of a Fake Marriage? I Took Everything and Married Your Boss! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her mood for continuing the design drawings was ruined by the disgusting couple. In the spirit of not making mistakes and striving for perfection, she temporarily put the drawings aside and entered her space to continue running around the mountain to exercise and lose weight.

She needed to slim down as soon as possible and appear with a completely new look to slap the faces of those who looked down on her for being fat.

Just from her phoenix eyes that weren’t squeezed into slits by fat, Wen Xi firmly believed that once she lost weight, she would become a stunning beauty capable of toppling cities and nations.

Jiang Yuting returned to the Jiang family with a belly full of anger, dragging Song Mingyuan along with her.

“Dad, you’re finally back! Your daughter is about to be bullied to death!”

Seeing her father, Political Commissar Jiang, Jiang Yuting’s eyes lit up, and she immediately began complaining, demanding justice.

Political Commissar Jiang, in his early fifties and slightly over 1.7 meters tall, was not particularly tall or robust, but decades in the military had given him a straight posture and an imposing aura that commanded respect.

Before this, he had already learned about the situation from his wife. Seeing the two of them return, he only shot them a sharp glare.

“Enough. I already know what happened. Tell me—what result did you get from talking to her?”

Having found her backbone, Jiang Yuting immediately began to complain loudly, exaggerating how unreasonable and forceful Wen Xi had been.

“Dad, Mom, you must think of a way. I don’t want to just give that bitch so much money! And if she forces us to publish a public apology, how will our family ever hold our heads up in the compound?”

Hearing the demand for 3,000 yuan in compensation, Jiang Yuting’s mother, Liu Hui, gasped.

Although their family could afford it, she was still unwilling to simply hand it over. That was a huge sum of money—enough to buy meat three times a day for decades.

After learning that Wen Xi was firm in her demands, that the military district had already begun investigating, and worst of all, that He Chengxiao had gotten involved, Political Commissar Jiang fell into deep thought on the sofa.

The room fell silent as everyone waited for his decision.

After a long while, he finally spoke.

“This matter must not only be resolved quickly, but also minimize the impact on Mingyuan.”

“Prepare the things and money she asked for. Tomorrow, your mother and I will go with you to see her again.”

As for the public apology, Political Commissar Jiang intended to trade it with a job opportunity from their hometown.

He believed Wen Xi had come to the military district because she was struggling financially and wanted more money. If they offered her a stable job with monthly income, that would surely be more practical than a public apology.

Money plus a job—he was confident she would know what to choose.

“Dad!”

Jiang Yuting exploded like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. “How can you agree to such unreasonable demands? Just send someone to forcibly send her back to her hometown and keep her under supervision! She’s just a problematic capitalist’s daughter—what kind of waves could she possibly stir?”

Political Commissar Jiang’s eyes suddenly widened, his gaze turning sharp like blades. A terrifying killing aura, forged through real battlefields and gunfire, surged out.

The pressure was suffocating.

Jiang Yuting shrank her neck instantly, her spine turning cold. She didn’t dare say another word.

Even Song Mingyuan shuddered.

“You two caused this mess, and now I have to clean it up,” he said coldly. “Do as I say!”

“Has your brain been eaten by dogs? How did I end up with such a brainless daughter?”

“If this isn’t handled properly, do you know what it will do to our family? I might even lose this uniform because of you!”

Hearing how serious the consequences were, Jiang Yuting and Song Mingyuan didn’t dare breathe loudly anymore. No matter how unwilling they were, they could only comply.

……

A new day rose.

He Chengxiao received a new mission and was ordered to lead his team immediately.

As he hurried toward the assembly point, he was suddenly blocked by a somewhat chubby young woman.

He sidestepped to go around her, but she also moved, blocking him again.

“Are you Regiment Commander He? I didn’t expect to meet you again,” the woman said in a coy, deliberately soft voice that made his skin crawl.

He instinctively took a few steps back, his face darkening as his brows furrowed.

Another one attracted by his appearance trying to strike up a conversation.

Without a word, he turned to leave in another direction.

“Regiment Commander He, don’t you remember me?” the woman quickly called out.

He paused.

“If it weren’t for you, I would have died,” she continued. “A few days ago at the Yunling County guesthouse, I helped treat your injuries.”

His steps stopped.

He turned around, studying her.

About 1.6 meters tall, round-bodied, weighing around 170–180 jin—she was indeed quite fat. From this angle, she did match the rough outline of that night’s woman.

But something felt off.

The voice didn’t quite match. The real woman’s voice hadn’t been this… goosebump-inducing.

“Is that so? Then thank you for your help,” he said calmly. “Since you assisted the police in catching criminals, I will report this to the local public security bureau and ensure you receive proper recognition.”

The woman’s face lit up with shy satisfaction.

She relaxed, thinking he believed her.

“My name is Bai Aimeng. I’m here visiting family. My brother is Battalion Commander Bai Jianye.”

Her heart raced wildly.

That night at the guesthouse, she had secretly seen his face—and fell instantly for him.

After learning he was a regiment commander and was searching for a chubby woman from that night, she decided to impersonate her.

She believed it wasn’t anything immoral. If she succeeded, she might even win him over.

Her gaze grew hotter and more intense, as if she wanted to devour him.

“I still have matters to attend to. Goodbye, Comrade Bai.”

He turned and ran, moving so fast it looked like he was fleeing from some kind of flood or beast.
