Lena woke up because someone was asking her something.Full novel: Tokyo University: The Futa Heiress and Her Endless Harem — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“…may I?”

She opened her eyes.

The room was still half-dark, the first gray light slipping through the curtains.

Yuki was asleep on the left side of her chest, mouth half-open.

Hina on the right, one hand on her stomach.

And at the foot of the bed, kneeling between her ankles, her platinum hair falling loose over her shoulders, was Rei.

“Rei?” Lena whispered.

“What time is it?”

“Five-forty.” Rei spoke very softly so as not to wake the others.

“I always wake up at five-thirty.

For training.” She paused.

Her cheeks were pink.

“I asked if I may.”

“May what?”

Rei lowered her gaze.

Very meaningfully lower.

“Yuki told me about yesterday morning,” she whispered.

“And Hina did it last night right in front of me.” She bit her lip.

“I don’t like being third at anything.”

Lena had to hold in her laughter so she wouldn’t wake the whole bed.

“It’s not a competition, Rei.”

“To me, everything is a competition.” Rei looked at her, and for a moment her icy eyes were almost pleading.

“I want to do it.

But only if you want it too.”

Lena reached out and stroked her hair.

“I want it,” she whispered.

Rei approached it the way she approached everything: with absolute focus.

She held her hair back with one hand, as if tying her ponytail before a duel.

She leaned down slowly.

And her first movement was so careful, so measured, that Lena felt like she was being studied.

Then Rei raised her eyes to look at her, and something in her gaze changed.

Lena clutched the sheet in her fist.

Rei learned the way she fenced.

She observed.

She adjusted.

Every small breath from Lena, every clench of her fingers, Rei noted and used.

She was slow where she needed to be slow.

She was fast where Lena didn’t expect it.

And the further she went, the more her face lost its stern concentration and became something else, something warm, almost happy.

Lena pressed the back of her hand over her mouth so she wouldn’t wake the others.

It didn’t work.

When she came, her cry was muffled against her palm, and her body jolted so hard that Yuki rolled to the side and Hina’s eyes snapped open.

Rei sat up, wiping her lips with the tip of one finger in an exquisitely elegant gesture, and looked at Hina across Lena’s body.

“Good morning,” she said, in her Student Council President voice.

Hina looked at her for a second.

Then she smiled, a slow, dangerous smile.

“Good morning,” she said.

“Tomorrow it’s my turn again.”

“We’ll see,” said Rei.

Yuki, still half-asleep, mumbled into her pillow: “We need to make a schedule.”

*Ding.*

Lena fell back against the pillows, breathless, and laughed until her ribs hurt.

Breakfast was almost normal.

Before she even made coffee, Yuki stuck a sheet of paper to the fridge with a cat-shaped magnet.

In her careful, rounded kanji, it read: “Morning Schedule.” Below were three columns labeled Yuki, Hina, Rei, and four more empty columns “for later.” Rei looked at it, picked up a marker, and corrected two alignment errors.

Hina wrote her name under both Monday and Thursday.

Rei erased it.

Hina wrote it back in.

Lena decided not to get involved.

Yuki made omelets.

Hina ate three.

Rei drank black coffee with a perfectly straight back, wearing one of Lena’s shirts that hung loose off her shoulders, and read the news on her phone with a furrowed brow.

“My father has sent seventeen messages,” she said.

“And his secretary another thirty.”

“What do they say?”

Rei set the phone down.

“That if I’m not home by noon, he’ll send his head of security to bring me back.” She paused.

“And that he’s already hired a private detective to find out who you are.”

Hina stopped chewing.

“A detective?” she said.

Her voice was very calm.

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You thought it.”

Hina smiled sweetly and went on eating.

*Ding.*

Lena stared at the screen for a long time.

Then she got up, went around behind Hina’s chair, and hugged her from behind, her hands resting on her stomach.

“What?” Hina asked.

“A girl,” Lena whispered in her ear.

“It’s going to be a girl.”

Hina went still.

Then she put down her fork, turned, and buried her face in Lena’s chest, her shoulders shaking.

Yuki covered her mouth with both hands.

Rei, for once, couldn’t find anything clever to say.

She simply stood and laid a hand on Hina’s back.

“How do you know?” Hina asked, when she could speak.

“I know,” Lena said.

“Trust me.”

On the way to Hiroo, Rei held on to Lena’s waist tighter than she needed to.

She didn’t shriek like Yuki, or laugh like Hina.

She simply rested her helmet against Lena’s back and stayed silent, and at the red lights Lena could feel her heart racing through her coat.

“I’ve never been on a motorcycle,” Rei said at one light.

“My father says they’re for people who don’t have chauffeurs.”

“And what do you say?”

Rei was quiet for a second.

“I say it’s the first time I feel like I’m going somewhere because I want to.”

The light turned green.

Lena hit the throttle, and behind her she heard Rei let out a small, surprised sound that might have been a laugh.

The Kurosawa estate was in Hiroo, behind high stone walls and a wooden gate guarded by two men in black suits.

Lena parked the Ninja right in front of the gate.

Rei climbed off behind her, removed her helmet, and shook out her hair.

The guards looked at her, then at Lena, and then one of them spoke hurriedly into his earpiece.

“Are you sure?” Rei asked.

It was the first time Lena had ever heard her sound nervous.

“I am.”

“You’re not scared?”

Lena thought about it.

Three days ago, she would have been.

Three days ago she was a girl from Greece counting coins for the subway.

“No,” she said.

The gate opened.

Genji Kurosawa was waiting for them in his library, behind an enormous black-wood desk.

He was around fifty-five, with short gray hair, a suit that cost as much as a car, and the same icy eyes as his daughter.

He did not stand when they entered.

Beside him stood a woman in a severe black suit, black hair pulled into a bun, a tablet in her hand.

His secretary.

The moment Lena walked into the room, the secretary’s tablet slipped from her fingers.

She caught it in midair, flushed, and quickly looked down at her shoes.

Genji didn’t notice.

He was looking only at his daughter.

“Rei,” he said.

“Sit down.”

Rei didn’t sit.

“Father, this is Lena.

I’m moving in with her.”

Genji opened a folder on his desk.

He turned it toward them with one finger.

“Lena,” he read.

“Twenty years old.

Greek.

Father unknown.

Mother deceased when she was fourteen.

Until three days ago, she worked as a waitress at a café in Piraeus, on a salary that wouldn’t cover my coffee.” He looked up.

“And then, suddenly, she bought a villa in Denenchofu in cash.

My detective cannot find where the money came from.”

“He never will,” Lena said calmly.

Genji weighed her with his eyes.

He wasn’t used to being answered like that.

“My daughter,” he said slowly, “is the heiress of Kurosawa Group.

She will marry the son of the chairman of Takamura Industries as soon as she finishes university.

It has been arranged for ten years.”

Lena turned and looked at Rei.

Rei was staring at the floor.

Her hands were clenched into fists.

“Since I was twelve,” Rei whispered.

“That’s why I never said yes to any confession.

There was no point.”

Lena felt something ignite inside her, something hot and angry.

She turned to Genji.

“What is Kurosawa Group worth?” she asked.

Genji raised an eyebrow.

“I beg your pardon?”

“Its market value.

How much is it?”

The secretary, Mizuki, answered before her employer could, almost automatically, in a voice that trembled slightly: “Approximately four trillion yen, ma’am.”

“Thank you,” Lena said, and smiled at her.

Mizuki blushed to the tips of her ears.

[Mizuki Hayashi | Attraction: 86% → 94%]

Lena took out her phone.

She opened her banking app.

The balance read ∞.

“Mr.

Kurosawa,” she said.

“I didn’t come here to ask your permission.

Rei is twenty-one years old.

She decides for herself where she lives and with whom.” She paused.

“I came to tell you that if you try to force her to marry someone she doesn’t want, I will buy Takamura Industries.

All of it.

And then I’ll buy yours too.”

The silence in the library was so heavy that Lena could hear the clock on the wall.

Genji Kurosawa stared at her.

For the first time, something flickered in his icy eyes.

Not fear.

Something like calculation.

“You’re bluffing,” he said.

*Ding.*

Lena smiled.

“Mizuki,” she said, without taking her eyes off Genji.

“Could you find me the number of the largest shareholder of Takamura Industries?”

Mizuki looked at her employer.

Then she looked at Lena.

And she opened her tablet.

“Yes, ma’am,” she whispered.

The color drained from Genji Kurosawa’s face.

And Rei, standing behind Lena, smiled for the first time in her life inside that house.

That evening, three suitcases and a fencing case stood in the villa’s front hall.

Rei looked at them as if she couldn’t believe they were hers.

She’d taken only the essentials: clothes, law books, and the sword her mother had given her when she was ten, before she left home forever.

The rest, she said, she didn’t need anymore.

“Welcome home,” Yuki said, and handed her a silver key with a snowflake-shaped charm.

“Lena ordered it this morning.

For you.”

Rei held it in her palm for a long time.

“A snowflake,” she said at last.

“Because they call me the Ice Queen?”

“Because it melts when you warm it,” Lena said.

Rei blushed so deeply that Hina laughed out loud from the sofa.

*Ding.*

[Talent acquired: “Blade of the Queen” — Championship-level fencing.]

Lena felt her hands change.

Her fingers suddenly knew the weight of a hilt, her wrists the motion of a parry, her feet the stance.

She opened Rei’s case, took out her mother’s sword, and raised it.

The blade gleamed under the hall lights.

Lena made one movement, just one, so fast the air whistled.

Rei stared at her, mouth open.

“That,” she whispered, “is my move.”

“You gave it to me,” Lena said, and handed the sword back to her hilt-first.

“Tomorrow I’m setting foot in that gym again.

And this time, I’m going to touch you.”

Rei took the sword.

Her icy eyes were shining.

“We’ll see,” she said, and it was the happiest voice Lena had ever heard from her.
