Protection: 20(Refreshed)

Power: steam engine

Area: 27 square meters(3×9)

Height: 3.5 meters

Durability: 2,000 kilometers

After the train upgrade, all damage suffered previously was nullified, and its performance in every aspect was refreshed and upgraded.

The interior space had become considerably more spacious, and the layout was also different from before.

For example, the 3×1 carriage An Bai used to grow crops had become a large 3×5 carriage, with the planting area placed in the large carriage, at the rear of the train.

As for coal, food, and the like, they were still in the 3×4 carriage where An Bai was staying.

Putting away his excitement over the train upgrade, An Bai looked out the window again.

The goat outside had clearly been dumbfounded by the sudden change in the train before it. At that moment, it stood there stupidly, still unable to recover from what had just happened.

“Go away! My old buddy.”

An Bai knew that he was no match for it and could only pray that this fellow would retreat in the face of difficulty.

This goat was stubborn too. After being dazed for a brief while, it began backing up again.

It looked fully determined to knock An Bai’s train over.

“Seriously, is that necessary?” An Bai was speechless. Did this goat really want to eat his flesh that badly?

The clanging sound of the goat’s horns colliding with the train rang out again, but this time, the impact had much less effect on the train.

After ramming An Bai’s train several times in succession, the train’s protection had not decreased at all, apart from some extremely slight shaking.

Its durability had only decreased by 10 kilometers, which was practically negligible.

“It finally looks a little like a train.”

Seeing this, An Bai felt much more at ease and lay down on the bed so the goat would not see him through the window.

Over the next ten minutes, the goat rammed the train several more times. The train’s protection still did not decrease, while its durability fell to 1,970 kilometers.

During this time, An Bai simply lay on the bed with his eyes closed, resting and recovering his energy.

Another ten minutes passed before the outside finally fell completely silent. Even the stupidest goat would know that it could not smash this train apart, so it left.

With the goat no longer disturbing him, An Bai soon fell asleep.

.....

An Bai was shaken awake. When he awoke, the train was shaking violently.

“What’s going on? What hit us this time?”

When he groggily opened his eyes, got up, and looked outside, he saw a group of goats with sharp fangs.

He roughly counted them. There were at least ten, and the largest one was as big as a bull.

The goats also noticed him. They raised their heads in unison and looked at An Bai through the glass.

Killing intent seeped through the glass. An Bai swallowed, realizing that he would have to use his train upgrade subsidy box ahead of schedule.

At the lead goat’s nod, the group of goats began backing away. Then, they charged at An Bai’s train at their fastest speed.

A loud bang resounded across the grassland. This impact was no small matter!

An Bai opened the manual. The train’s protection had already fallen from 20 points to 18.

While An Bai slept, their impacts had reduced the train’s protection by a full two points.

There were still three hours until the Polar Night, and he had no idea how long they had been ramming the train.

One of the goats had even broken off one of its horns.

“They’re really persistent!”

An Bai could not understand what they saw in him. There was not even enough meat on his body for all of them to share!

Rather than eat him, they might as well go eat the horses in the daytime.

Another impact came, and this time, the train’s protection fell by 0.1 points.

“If it falls to 10 points, I’ll use that train upgrade subsidy box.”

An Bai had already made his decision. He lay down again, opened the manual, and read people’s chat records to pass the time.

The World Chat Channel had gained a new rule and a new feature.

World Channel rule: Each person could send only four messages per day.

The additional feature was the golden megaphone. Messages sent using a golden megaphone would be pinned in the World Channel’s pinned section for one day.

“This additional rule should greatly reduce the amount of junk information in the World Channel.”

Previously, the World Channel was practically impossible to read. Tens of thousands of messages refreshed every second, and survivors simply could not keep up.

So much useful information was drowned in the ocean of junk messages.

As for the golden megaphone, An Bai was not very interested in it for now.

For one thing, it was expensive. Exchanging for a golden megaphone required at least five days’ worth of food and water.

For another, everyone’s social circles were still mostly limited to regional chats. Whether it was the Strange Man, Li Zhiluo, or An Bai, they had all met in the same regional chat channel.

Unlike the lively atmosphere of the World Channel, the atmosphere in the regional chat channel was very quiet, with only a few messages.

Many people who had once been active were no longer sending messages very often.

Take that desert brother from before, for example. He had not sent a message for several days, and An Bai vaguely remembered that his ID seemed to be Damo.

Ever since they learned that platforms existed, the chat atmosphere had become much quieter.

Everyone knew that people from the same region would meet on the platform. It was just like online romance: there was endless conversation while dating online, but after meeting in person, they could barely get a single word out.

Besides, most people now had their own small circles, and private messages were more efficient for handling matters.

“I imagine most survivors will enter the platform during tonight’s Polar Night.”

An Bai guessed this because most survivors’ train upgrade progress was still one level behind his.

As he pondered, the herd outside rammed An Bai’s train again. This impact was considerably stronger than the previous ones.

The wild fruit placed on the train rolled everywhere because of the impact.

Quietly poking half his head out of the window, An Bai saw that the lead goat, nearly as large as a water buffalo, had made its move.

The lead goat also saw An Bai. Its gaze was cold, as though it were looking at a dead man.

An Bai hurriedly pulled his head back. He checked the manual and saw that after the lead goat’s attack, the train’s protection had immediately dropped by 0.2 points.

There were two and a half hours until the Polar Night. At a rate of one impact per minute, it would take less than an hour for them to smash through An Bai’s train.

“Go ahead and ram it. If it gets smashed apart, I won’t feel bad about using the Subsidy Box to upgrade it.”

An Bai continued lying on the bed and used the manual to pass the time while keeping a close eye on all the train’s indicators.

What reassured him slightly was that the goats also grew tired, and their impacts later became less frequent.

Another hour and a half passed like this. There was only one hour left until the Polar Night.

The train’s protection had now fallen to 11 points, and its durability was only 1,000 kilometers.

The frequency of the impacts also decreased as time passed.

“Strange. It’s already been 15 minutes since the last impact.” An Bai was somewhat puzzled.

He poked his head out of the window again, and the scene before him shocked him somewhat.

All ten goats, including the lead goat, lay in pools of blood. He had no idea what had killed them.

“Something bigger has arrived.” An Bai lay back down, avoiding detection by the monster.
