Daisy felt that her seismic perception still had significant limitations.
During long pursuits like this, there were simply too many objects to distinguish clearly, causing her vision, hearing, and vibration sensing to overlap and interfere with one another.
From a reconnaissance standpoint, it was still far inferior to Daredevil’s heightened senses.
“Hurry up!
Check over there!” Before she had time to analyze the situation further, loud voices reached her ears.
She dragged the unconscious tattooed man into the shadows of a nearby alley, planning to interrogate him later.
Glancing around, she spotted an ordinary apartment building to her left.
Taking a running start, she leaped upward, caught the edge of the roof, and pulled herself onto it.
She drew her pistol and aimed toward the street corner.
It wasn’t long before a man with a mohawk came into view.
Most people instinctively checked in front of them, behind them, or to either side when searching for an enemy.
Very few thought to look up.
The distance was only about twenty meters.
Hidden in the darkness while her target stood fully exposed, Daisy seized the advantage.
Channeling a small amount of her superpower into her wrist, she gripped the pistol with both hands, carefully aimed at his head, and pulled the trigger.
The gunshot echoed through the alley.
The man instinctively began to look upward.
Too late.
With a dull thud, the bullet entered through his left eye and exited through the back of his skull.
His limbs twitched twice before he collapsed motionless.
Without pausing, Daisy jumped onto another rooftop.
She could still sense two more enemies nearby.
The two men who had been pursuing her regrouped and stared nervously at the body of their companion, who had been killed with a single shot.
Both quickly retreated, drew their pistols, and cautiously searched the surrounding rooftops.
Watching from a distance, Daisy lined up several shots.
None of them felt certain.
A pistol’s effective range was only about fifty meters, and accuracy dropped significantly against moving targets.
She was relying almost entirely on her enhanced physique and vibration-assisted aim.
She was still a long way from becoming a true marksman.
Remaining perfectly still, she stayed hidden while the two men fired wildly in different directions, hoping to force her to reveal herself.
Realizing the situation was slipping out of control, the bald man hurriedly pulled out his phone.
Before the call could connect— Bang!
Warm liquid splashed across the hand holding the phone.
Instinctively, he dove sideways to avoid the sniper’s line of fire.
Only then did he dare look back.
His companion now had a large hole through the center of his forehead.
Blood covered the phone in his hand.
His reaction was remarkably fast.
He immediately returned fire toward the direction the shot had come from.
Daisy fired back.
This time, however, he was prepared.
The distance was also working against her.
The bullet merely grazed his left arm before flying past.
At last, the bald man identified her position.
She was on the rooftop.
How had she gotten up there?
Taking cover behind a wall, he looked down at the phone soaked in blood.
He tried turning it on twice.
Nothing.
Cursing under his breath, he threw it away and kept his eyes fixed on the rooftop.
“We don’t mean you any harm!” he shouted.
“Madam Gao simply admires you and wants to talk.” Daisy nearly laughed.
Did he really think she would believe that?
The hostility pouring off him was obvious enough.
“You’re an excellent shot,” the bald man continued.
“Maybe this is all just a misunderstanding.” While speaking, he quietly studied the surrounding terrain, searching for a route that would let him close the distance and force Daisy into close combat.
What he didn’t know was that Daisy was thinking exactly the same thing.
Her body wasn’t like Captain America’s.
She couldn’t shrug off bullets, lie still for ten seconds, and stand back up.
She had no intention of gambling her life on luck.
If he happened to fire blindly and got lucky…
That would be a truly pointless way to die.
Using her vibration sense to track his movements, Daisy climbed down from the rooftop and silently waited behind a nearby corner.
The bald man approached carefully.
A dagger rested in his left hand.
A pistol remained in his right.
Keeping his back against the wall, he cautiously scanned every direction.
His breathing, however, had become noticeably heavier.
Daisy placed her left hand against the ground.
Then she activated her superpower.
The bald man suddenly felt the floor beneath him tremble.
The wooden boards creaked violently.
His attention was instantly drawn downward.
An earthquake?
The thought had barely crossed his mind before a gunshot ended his life.
Daisy waited another moment.
Then she tossed her empty pistol toward the body.
There was no response.
He was dead.
Earlier, killing had felt strangely unreal.
Standing this close to the blood-covered body, however, her heart still pounded violently.
She forced herself to imagine he was nothing more than a monster in a video game as she suppressed the nausea rising in her stomach and searched his body.
Compared to the others, this man was relatively well-off.
He carried two hundred dollars in cash, a Beretta 92F, and two spare magazines.
Without hesitation, Daisy pocketed everything.
Now that Madam Gao had set her sights on her, having another firearm would greatly improve her chances of survival.
She searched the other two bodies as well.
One pistol was completely out of ammunition.
The other man hadn’t been carrying a gun at all.
Discarding the empty weapon, she searched their wallets.
By the time she finished, her total savings had climbed back to roughly eight thousand dollars.
Picking up a wooden plank from the ground, Daisy began striking the tattooed man she had knocked unconscious earlier.
Only after several blows left him bruised and bloodied did he finally regain consciousness.
The moment he saw the pistol pointed at him, he froze.
“Who sent you?” Daisy asked.
“Why were you following me?” His eyes darted around, obviously searching for a weapon.
Daisy frowned.
I’m pointing a gun at you.
Do you really think I’m that little of a threat?
Bang!
The bullet tore straight through his foot.
“Talk.” His face twisted with hatred as he gritted his teeth against the pain, still trying to stand.
Bang!
The second shot shattered his other foot.
“I’ll talk!
I’ll talk!” Clutching his mangled feet, he rolled across the ground in agony.
Only after Daisy aimed the pistol directly at his forehead did he finally abandon all resistance.
“It…
it was Madam Gao’s order!” “That old woman?” “I don’t even know her.” The tattooed man glanced at her before hurriedly lowering his head again.
“If I had been captured alive,” Daisy continued, “what would Madam Gao have done with me?” His face immediately turned pale.
His entire body began trembling uncontrollably.
Daisy pressed the muzzle against his forehead.
The threat required no explanation.
“If I tell you…
you have to promise not to kill me.” “I won’t kill you.” “Talk.” “Madam Gao would probably have sold you to wealthy clients…
or sent you to work in one of her factories…” That was enough.
Daisy’s expression darkened.
So this had never been about those people from the restaurant.
The entire incident had simply been a coincidence.
“Where does Madam Gao usually stay?” The tattooed man quietly gave her an address.
“You promised you wouldn’t kill me…” Fear filled his voice.
“I won’t kill you.” To him, those words sounded like salvation.
Before relief could even appear on his face, however, he watched the bullet speeding toward him until it pierced his skull.
“Remember this in your next life,” Daisy said calmly.
“Never trust everything a beautiful woman tells you.” She felt no guilt whatsoever over breaking her promise.
After putting the pistol back into her backpack, she left the four bodies behind and walked away from the crime scene with light, unhurried steps.
