“Contact the Director.

Director George has always had a good public reputation, and given his position, he’s unlikely to be swayed by money,” Daisy suggested.

Brett was taken aback.Full novel: Transformed in Marvel World — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

A low-ranking patrol officer like him contacting the Director of the New York Police Department?

With seventy-seven precincts, twelve traffic bureaus, nine housing bureaus, and more than thirty thousand sworn police officers, he was practically invisible to the Director.

Moreover, bypassing the chain of command was a serious matter under any circumstances, and Brett had to consider how it might affect his career.

“If the Director doesn’t even listen to my explanation, I’m finished…” he said anxiously.

Daisy knew Director George was an honorable man, but Brett had no reason to share that confidence.

Since she couldn’t explain how she knew, she remained silent and let him make his own decision.

“Alright.

This is something that has to be done—it’s my duty.

But when the time comes, you have to come with me to meet the Director,” Brett said firmly after a long pause.

Daisy had no objection.

How to get in touch with the Director was Brett’s responsibility; she only needed to explain what she had discovered.

Over the next few days, Daisy remained extremely cautious.

Instead of wandering the streets, she enrolled in a crash course in karate and trained for two days.

Her encounter with the gang members had exposed a major weakness.

She had virtually no close-quarters combat skills, and relying solely on her raw strength wasn’t a sustainable strategy.

As a city of millions, New York naturally had schools teaching all kinds of Eastern martial arts—Xingyiquan, Wing Chun, Hung Gar, and more.

However, Daisy didn’t have much time, so she needed something simple, practical, and quick to learn.

Between Taekwondo and Karate, she chose Karate.

That evening, Brett, who had been out of contact for three days, finally found her.

“Dinner at the Director’s house?

Brett, you’re doing pretty well for yourself.

Make a good impression tonight, and a promotion might not be far off.” Now that they were working toward the same goal, the two had grown considerably closer.

On the way, Daisy listened to everything Brett had gone through over the past two days and couldn’t help sighing.

He had really gone all in.

Brett had handled the situation cleverly.

Instead of using the department’s internal email system, he pretended to be an overzealous rookie.

Under the puzzled stares of his colleagues, he hurried over and slapped a parking ticket onto the Director’s official vehicle.

The Director was stunned.

How had someone so oblivious ended up in the police force?

Intending to mentor the young officer, he pulled Brett aside for a few words.

Before he could finish his lecture, however, Brett interrupted and seized the opportunity to explain the entire situation.

The Director wasn’t the type to believe rumors without evidence.

People didn’t reach his position through passion alone.

An operation of that scale would inevitably involve powerful interests, and he needed more proof.

That was why he had invited them to dinner at his home that evening.

The Director appeared to be genuinely incorruptible.

He lived in a high-rise apartment in Upper Manhattan.

After stepping out of the elevator, the two rang the doorbell for Apartment 2016, and a middle-aged man answered the door.

He was lean, with blond hair, sharp eyes, and a stern expression.

Even at home, he was dressed in a suit and tie.

He studied Daisy carefully before inviting them inside.

The Director’s wife greeted them warmly and invited them to the table.

There, Daisy met the rest of the Stacy family.

First was the famous Gwen.

The blonde teenager looked about fourteen or fifteen years old, poised and confident, though Daisy sensed a hint of competitiveness in the way she looked at her.

At least, that’s how Daisy interpreted it.

There was also a young boy who appeared to be seven or eight years old.

Daisy remembered that the family would eventually have another son.

She also saw the Stacy family’s famous lemon sea bass on the dinner table.

To be honest, the cooking was rather disappointing.

Since arriving in this world two months ago, the only meal Daisy had genuinely enjoyed was the “Chinese cuisine” prepared by the Maid.

She had been surviving on bread and vegetable salads every day.

Now that she was finally looking at a proper meal, she stopped holding back and ate enthusiastically as soon as everyone began.

She had no trouble eating the sea bass.

Growing up in a country with a remarkably diverse culinary tradition, even crocodile wouldn’t have surprised her.

At first, Mrs.

Stacy kindly asked whether she had adjusted to life here and whether she had made many friends.

But after watching Daisy eat with such enthusiasm, she gradually stopped talking.

Karate training consumed plenty of energy, and using her Superpower drained her as well.

Although Daisy had mentioned it several times, the Maid still preferred preparing refined, modest portions.

To avoid appearing gluttonous, Daisy had restrained herself for quite some time.

Good looks often earned people extra forgiveness.

If an attractive woman could be excused for serious mistakes, then eating with a healthy appetite certainly wasn’t a problem.

She paid little attention to etiquette or appearances, simply eating naturally and comfortably.

Ironically, this left a favorable impression on both the Director and his wife.

Someone with ulterior motives wouldn’t eat so openly, the Director thought.

This poor girl must not have had a decent meal in quite some time, his wife concluded.

Meanwhile, Gwen, who always prided herself on her ladylike manners, was astonished.

Had this girl just escaped from somewhere?

She could really eat.

By the end of the meal, Daisy had finished nearly one-third to one-half of the dishes on the table.

She wiped her mouth, looking thoroughly satisfied.

Leaving Gwen—who still looked slightly dissatisfied—and her mother to clear the table, Daisy and Brett followed the Director into his study.

“Miss Johnson, could you tell me how you discovered this location?” the Director asked.

There was no way Daisy was going to admit that she had been targeted by a dangerous elderly crime boss, killed several of her subordinates in self-defense, and was now seeking police assistance to resolve the situation.

Instead, she explained that she had been helping someone search for a missing acquaintance before changing the subject.

“Director, I have reason to believe that a large number of people of Chinese descent are being unlawfully detained and exploited in the underground facility operated by this organization.” “These are the materials I’ve collected.

While they aren’t direct evidence, they strongly support my suspicions.” She removed a stack of documents from her backpack, including utility consumption records, delivery vehicle logs, and several online missing-person reports.

If possible, she would have loved to hand over a photograph of Madam Gao as well.

“Officer, it’s this woman!” She wished there were already a high-priority wanted notice for Madam Gao, the kind that would trigger an immediate tactical response, but the elusive crime boss had never been captured on camera.

Director George carefully reviewed the documents several times.

Anyone with sound judgment could tell this pointed to a major criminal operation.

Apparently believing they enjoyed protection from corrupt local officers, the organization had grown increasingly bold.

Many of the warning signs were so obvious that even an ordinary citizen could uncover them.

Without knowing the full story, Director George came away with a favorable impression of Daisy.

She appeared to be a young woman with a strong sense of justice.

He had met many people like her before—individuals driven by conviction who took it upon themselves to investigate criminals.

Curiously, many of them had been women.
