Luotian had been lying on her bed like a corpse for three days. Every day, she was in a daze, barely able to process what had happened. She simply could not believe that she had actually transmigrated into a book.
For the past three days, she had gone through disbelief, emotional breakdowns, confusion, helplessness, fear, and even hysterics, but none of it could change the reality of the situation.
It was all because she had been too curious for her own good and had actually clicked on an apocalypse novel. She had no idea how it happened, but a link to the novel had appeared while she was scrolling through short videos.
She used to enjoy reading novels quite a lot, but after short videos became popular, she had gradually abandoned her habit of reading novels for years.
After all, novels required her to use her imagination, while short videos showed everything right before her eyes. Yet for some reason, this particular novel seemed to possess some kind of magic that kept drawing her in.
Especially when she reached the first few chapters, she discovered a little cannon-fodder character who had exactly the same name as her. Before she knew it, she had become completely absorbed in the story.
She had to admit that the author’s imagination was quite impressive. In the early stages of the novel, there were all kinds of natural disasters and man-made calamities. Later on, zombies and mutated plants even appeared. In short, the world inside the book had fallen into complete chaos.
The main storyline was rather cliché. The male and female protagonists led a group of teammates through the apocalypse, gathering supplies, fighting zombies, and establishing a survivor base. In the end, they developed an inhibitor for the zombie virus, allowing the world to return to its original order.
After finishing the entire novel, Luotian’s only real impression was that the protagonist’s group was incredibly powerful. There would definitely be no problem if she followed them.
The only other thing she felt was pity for the girl who shared her exact name. The girl had already died at the very beginning of the apocalypse. From beginning to end, she had only appeared in a single sentence spoken by the female protagonist.
“I heard this junior’s name was Luotian. I really didn’t expect her to die in the dormitory.”
That’s right.
She had now become that very junior who had died in the dormitory.
The more Luotian thought about it, the more miserable she felt. What had she done to deserve this?
Before transmigrating into the book, although both of her parents had died, the rest of her family had always treated her extremely well.
Her grandparents had always felt sorry for her because she had grown up without parents, so they had indulged her in every possible way. After she grew up, she smoothly took over the assets her parents had left behind.
Since she had no interest in running a company, she simply sold her shares and put several billion into the bank. The annual interest alone was enough to ensure that she would never have to worry about food or expenses.
After her grandparents passed away one after another, she immediately began traveling around the world and eventually became a well-known travel blogger.
Other than never getting married or having children, she had practically been living the kind of life everyone envied.
Yet she had never imagined that simply reading a novel would cause her to transmigrate into the book.
Luotian was so miserable that she almost wanted to cry. The only thing that gave her some comfort was that she had been bound to a system.
That’s right. On the very first day after she transmigrated, a thing called the Cannon Fodder Reversal System had bound itself to her.
At that time, the original host had developed a high fever because of a cold and then fallen down, hitting her head and dying on the spot.
When Luotian arrived, the original host’s soul was wandering beside her own corpse. Before Luotian could even react, the girl kicked her straight into the body.
Luotian was completely stunned at the time.
“Hey, this is your own body. Why did you put me inside it?”
Luotian desperately tried to escape from the body, but no matter how hard she struggled, it was useless.
“I don’t want this body anymore, so I’ll give it to you. I’m going to find my mom and dad, and my grandpa and grandma.”
“Hey, I don’t want it either. I want to go back to my own body.”
Luotian shouted with all her strength, but it was completely useless. She could only watch helplessly as the girl’s soul slowly faded away.
Then a mechanical voice suddenly appeared in her mind, followed by the system that had bound itself to her.
“I just want to know why I came here. Why did I end up being bound to you?”
Luotian looked at the little ball inside her mind and was completely speechless.
“Host, actually, um…” The little ball seemed somewhat nervous.
The truth was that it had only just taken up its position, yet something had already gone wrong.
It was originally supposed to bind itself to the little cannon-fodder character from the book and help her be reborn. However, the little cannon fodder had refused to form a contract with it no matter what it tried. Neither threats nor tempting offers had worked.
Then, for some unknown reason, something had happened to the flow of space and time. Somehow, it had inexplicably ended up binding itself to this transmigrator instead.
Waaah!
It had made such a huge mistake. It had no idea whether it would be able to pass its year-end assessment.
The moment Luotian saw the little ball’s expression, she knew it was hiding something from her, but she did not bother asking.
“Fine. We’re already bound together now. So tell me, what’s your name and what exactly can you do?”
“Host, this system doesn’t have a name. Its code is 007, and its full name is the Cannon Fodder Reversal System. As long as the host works hard to earn points, you can use those points to exchange for anything in the system mall.”
“That sounds pretty good!”
“Mhm, Host. As long as you have enough points, you can buy anything you want.”
“Then can I use them to go back?”
“Uh, that isn’t possible! And, Host, if you die in this world, you will disappear forever.”
“Tsk, are you lying to me? You just said I could buy anything I wanted. I don’t want to stay here. I just want to go back to my previous world.”
“Host, if you had made this request three days ago, you might still have had a chance to return. But your body was cremated three days ago. Even if you went back, there would be no body for you to return to!”
“What?!”
Luotian felt as if she had been struck by lightning. Her body lost control and collapsed onto the bed as waves of dizziness washed over her.
What exactly had she missed?
Heavens, earth, please have some mercy!
Luotian nearly ground her teeth to pieces. Since she could no longer return, she had no choice but to work hard to survive in this world.
Fortunately, she had read the entire novel from beginning to end and still remembered many of its details. Luotian quickly found some paper and a pen and wrote down all the natural disasters she could remember, just in case she forgot them after too much time had passed.
After finishing that, she prepared to start taking advantage of the system.
However, it had already been three days since she transmigrated into this body, yet she still had none of the original host’s memories. That simply would not do.
“007, are you there?”
“I’m here, Host. We can communicate through our consciousness now. You don’t have to speak out loud.”
“Oh. I wanted to ask, why don’t I have the original host’s memories? What if I run into someone I know on the street? I wouldn’t even know their name. What am I supposed to do then?”
“Host, that’s easy to solve. I’ll transfer the original host’s memories to you right now. Please lie down on the bed. There will be a slight discomfort while the memories are being transmitted.”
“Fine. Go ahead!”
Upon hearing this, Luotian immediately lay back down on the bed.
Very soon, the short life of the young girl appeared in Luotian’s mind like a movie, slowly unfolding before her eyes.
All of the memories flooded into her mind at once. Luotian’s head began to throb painfully, and she gradually became drowsy.
