Fang Xihe almost bit her tongue.
“Ma marriage certificate?”
On the other end, Shang Chenzhou said, “You accepted my proposal.”
“I did accept, but you didn’t say we’d get the certificate today.”
There was a brief pause on the other side.
“Since we’re going to get married anyway, it doesn’t matter whether it’s sooner or later.”
Fang Xihe wanted to say something else.
Shang Chenzhou asked, “Are you having second thoughts?”
“I’m not.”
Fang Xihe truly wasn’t having second thoughts.
It was just that everything was moving too fast for her to adjust.
She raised her hand and ran it through her hair.
Oh well.
She had already agreed marriage would happen eventually.
Shang Chenzhou said when to get the certificate, and that would be that.
Once they were legally married, if Shang Chenzhou wanted to be with her, he would have to invest more money, effort.
Divorce was far more complicated than a breakup.
“Give me ten minutes. I’ll change.”
She hung up the phone.
Fang Xihe got up to wash up, putting on a white knitted dress with a collared shirt underneath, topped with a black down jacket.
She could remove the jacket for the photos.
Her long black hair was braided into a fishtail braid, and she applied light makeup.
She grabbed her phone to request half a day off from her supervisor.
The original character had majored in English, with average grades, and after graduation worked in a foreign trade company selling tools to international clients.
Like the original, Fang Xihe also had an English major and had obtained a TEM-8 certificate in college. She had participated in several English competitions and translation contests, winning numerous awards.
Additionally, she had taken computer courses.
Before transmigrating, she worked at a big internet company with a high salary but the environment was brutal.
She had died suddenly from overwork while doing overtime.
Then she transmigrated into the romance story she had just read.
Fang Xihe requested half a day off from her manager. After some nagging, the manager finally agreed.
She found her ID card, grabbed her phone, and headed downstairs.
As she stepped out, she immediately saw Shang Chenzhou under a tree.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist, tall and imposing.
A white shirt paired with black trousers, topped with a black down jacket as well.
Simple yet clean and refreshing.
Quite pleasing to the eye.
Fang Xihe walked closer and caught a faint scent of laundry detergent and jasmine from him.
Shang Chenzhou looked at her deeply.
“Let’s go.”
He was also holding the cloth bag Fang Xihe had left at his place last night.
Fang Xihe reached out. “Give it to me.”
Shang Chenzhou said, “I’ll carry it for you.”
Fang Xihe raised an eyebrow.
Heh, someone was carrying her bag for her just as she went out.
They left the neighborhood together.
Shang Chenzhou hailed a taxi.
Once inside, he said, “Driver, take us to the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
The taxi driver was a chatty middle-aged man.
“Going to get the marriage certificate?” he asked with a smile.
Shang Chenzhou replied coolly, “Yes.”
The driver said, “Congratulations to both of you! Today’s a lucky day.”
Shang Chenzhou: “Thank you.”
He glanced at Fang Xihe.
She, worried he might think she was having second thoughts, smiled at him.
“Do I look good today?”
Shang Chenzhou pressed his lips together, nodding. “You look good.”
Fang Xihe: “You look handsome too.”
She figured she’d only be getting married once of course, she wanted to look nice.
After divorcing Shang Chenzhou, she had no intention of marrying again.
Before transmigrating, marriage had no place in her life plan.
Now, experiencing it in the story wasn’t bad.
Shang Chenzhou studied Fang Xihe for a moment, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Soon, they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau.
They had come early, so there was almost no line, and soon they had their two red books.
Fang Xihe looked at the wedding photo handsome man, beautiful woman.
Slightly imperfect.
“Shang Chenzhou, you’re not smiling.”
He was about to respond when Fang Xihe waved him off.
“Never mind. Considering how handsome you are, I won’t hold it against you.”
She put the photo in her bag.
Her stomach rumbled.
She glanced at Shang Chenzhou, embarrassed.
She had rushed out and hadn’t had breakfast.
Shang Chenzhou held her hand.
“Let’s get something to eat.”
Fang Xihe stiffened, staring at their joined hands.
“What’s wrong?” Shang Chenzhou asked.
Fang Xihe shook her head, silently thinking: It’s him holding my hand! My male god is holding my hand!
There was no food near the Civil Affairs Bureau, so they walked a couple of blocks to a small alley and found a breakfast shop.
Inside, Shang Chenzhou ordered two bowls of wontons and two flaky pastries.
He wiped the table in front of Fang Xihe with a tissue.
The small table was greasy, leaving the tissue black.
He used two more tissues to clean it, then went to clean his own table.
The owner called out wontons were ready and needed to be picked up.
Shang Chenzhou got up to fetch the wontons.
Fang Xihe followed, preparing to carry hers.
Shang Chenzhou turned: “Sit. I’ll bring it to you.”
“It’s too hot. You can’t carry it alone.”
Fang Xihe had been independent since childhood and didn’t like troubling others.
Her principle: If I do it myself, I’ll be fine.
Shang Chenzhou pushed her back into her seat. “Sit properly.”
Fang Xihe: “……”
She watched him carry a bowl of wontons back tall, broad-shouldered.
Heh, this male lead does spoil his girlfriend… or rather, his wife now.
They had their marriage certificate now.
But his kindness to her, the ex-girlfriend, was temporary plot-driven. Once he met the female lead, he would fall for her and eventually live happily ever after with her.
Fang Xihe wasn’t sure how the story would unfold now that the plot had changed would there still be a chasing-wife scenario?
“What are you thinking about?”
Shang Chenzhou’s voice pulled her back.
He handed her a pair of disposable chopsticks. “Eat.”
Fang Xihe took them. “Thank you.”
Shang Chenzhou went to get the pastries.
Fang Xihe noticed his bowl had cilantro, while hers didn’t.
She liked cilantro too.
So she got a small plate and added some.
Shang Chenzhou watched, confused.
Fang Xihe poured the cilantro into her wontons and happily sniffed them.
Wontons only taste good with cilantro.
“You didn’t like cilantro before?” he asked.
Fang Xihe had a wonton in her mouth and froze.
The original character didn’t like cilantro.
She thought for a moment and couldn’t figure out how to explain the change.
Oh well. Shang Chenzhou would never know this body’s soul had changed.
“I hadn’t tried it before. Recently I gave it a taste, and it’s actually pretty good.”
Whether he believed it or not, that would do.
Shang Chenzhou remembered his college roommate’s words: women are fickle.
He didn’t dwell on it, focusing on his wontons.
Fang Xihe only ate the wontons, skipping the pastries she couldn’t eat more.
Shang Chenzhou finished both pastries.
Leaving the small shop, he said, “There’s still time. I’ll help you move your things.”
