“Ding!”
The elevator doors opened.
Wen Xiayue was pressed against the handrail inside the elevator, still holding the lunch boxes, unable to move. Her face was burning red.
Chen Yang and several employees were standing right outside the elevator.
They all froze the moment they saw the scene.
What… what did they just see?
President Qi had cornered Madam Qi in the elevator?
And they got to witness this for free?!
Chen Yang reacted instantly, pulling the others around.
“Oh! Where were we just now? Right, I still have a file to pick up…”
“Yes, yes, I’ll go with you.”
A group of them scrambled away in panic, as if something terrifying was chasing them.
Only then did Qi Lanzhou release Wen Xiayue and step out of the elevator.
Wen Xiayue stood inside, her heart still racing.
But Qi Lanzhou acted as if nothing had happened.
That only made her more annoyed.
She quietly followed behind him with the lunch boxes.
Wherever there were people, there would be gossip. What happened in the elevator between Wen Xiayue and Qi Lanzhou quickly spread throughout the company.
And as it spread, the version became more and more outrageous.
“I heard President Qi kissed Madam Qi so hard in the elevator that her legs went weak!”
“They did it in the office!”
“They even had a baby in the office!”
“…”
Inside the office, the two main characters were completely unaware.
Qi Lanzhou watched as Wen Xiayue laid out the food she had brought: stir-fried vegetables, steamed sea bass, chicken wing rice, and chicken soup.
It looked like it was made by the household chef.
He asked deliberately, “Did you make this yourself?”
Wen Xiayue rolled her eyes and thought this was her chance to impress him.
“Of course! I made it myself. I simmered this soup for hours!”
“Is that so?” Qi Lanzhou took a sip. “Why does it taste exactly like the one at home?”
“…I asked the house chef to help a little, so it tastes like home.”
Qi Lanzhou’s eyes were filled with amusement.
“How much help?”
“They killed the chicken, plucked it, told me how much water and salt to add, and also…”
“So they made it all for you?”
“I…”
Only then did Wen Xiayue realize he was teasing her. He clearly knew it was made by the chef but deliberately pushed her into lying.
She quickly snatched the soup from his hands.
“Don’t drink it.”
His hand was suddenly empty. He looked at his empty palm, then at her puffed-up face, and the smile in his eyes deepened.
“What is it?”
“You already knew it was made by the chef, didn’t you? Why are you still drinking it?”
Qi Lanzhou raised a brow. “Even if it was made by the chef, you brought it. Why can’t I drink it?”
This was the first time she had brought him food.
He took the soup back. “It’s very good.”
……
Qi Lanzhou was very busy.
His meal time was short, but he still made time to eat with her.
After finishing, he went back to meetings.
Wen Xiayue had nowhere to go but to wait in his office.
The office was huge. Standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, she could overlook the bustling city below.
Skyscrapers, traffic—everything looked so small.
She couldn’t help but sigh.
So CEOs really do work in places like this.
She sat in his chair and spun around once, then again, finding it surprisingly comfortable.
“No wonder CEOs are workaholics. Who would want to leave this place?”
She placed a hand on her lower abdomen.
It had only been a month; she couldn’t feel anything yet.
Even though she was pregnant, finding a job was unrealistic now. But if she relied entirely on Qi Lanzhou… what if one day he grew tired of her? Then she would have no backup plan at all.
Maybe she could return to her old profession.
She had studied jewelry design in university. Her graduation project even won an award. Later, she changed careers to make a living.
Now that she thought about it, jewelry design was what she truly loved.
Her eyes lit up.
She could start by sketching designs, work with factories to produce samples, and then open a studio.
She had money now—why not try?
She quickly pulled out her phone and searched for how to start a studio.
Just as she was reading intently, the office door suddenly opened. Chen Yang poked his head in, startling her.
“Madam Qi, President Qi asked me to tell you his meeting will take a while. If you’re bored, you can go shopping at the mall nearby.”
“It’s fine, I’ll wait here,” Wen Xiayue replied.
Chen Yang nodded and was about to leave when she suddenly called him back.
“Madam Qi, anything else?”
“Your name is Chen Yang?”
He nodded again. “Yes, Madam Qi. I’m Chen Yang, from the executive office, President Qi’s assistant. If you need anything, you can ask me.”
“Don’t be nervous. I was just asking.”
She smiled harmlessly.
But Chen Yang didn’t relax at all.
“How long have you been working here?”
“About five years, including internship.”
“Five years?” Wen Xiayue thought for a moment. “Then you should know Qi Lanzhou very well, right?”
Chen Yang’s expression became subtle.
“Madam Qi, what would you like to ask?”
“I just want to know… does Qi Lanzhou like anything? For example, jewelry?”
“Jewelry?” Chen Yang frowned. “President Qi doesn’t seem to care much about that. Even his watches change often; he doesn’t seem attached to any brand.”
“Oh…”
Seeing her disappointment, he quickly added, “But President Qi seems to like baby’s breath.”
“Baby’s breath?”
“Yes, the kind of small, delicate clustered gemstones. I once saw a jewelry magazine on his desk. He stared at the baby’s breath design for a long time. I think he probably likes it.”
Baby’s breath…
Tiny diamonds set together—low-key yet luxurious. It did suit Qi Lanzhou’s style.
“Anything else?”
Chen Yang thought again. “He also seems to like blue. Many of his ties and cufflinks are blue.”
Wen Xiayue nodded and quietly remembered everything.
After Chen Yang left, she found blank sketch paper and a pencil in the office.
She sat down at Qi Lanzhou’s desk and began to draw seriously.
