Pushing open the ward door and walking in, Song Yueying saw Doctor Zhao inside the room and was not the least bit surprised. As she walked, she greeted him, “Doctor Zhao, you’re here too!”

“You’re back.” Doctor Zhao put on a professional smile. “The nurse told me his wound was bleeding, so I came over to take a look.”

Stopping beside the cabinet, Song Yueying nodded without suspicion. “Sorry to trouble you, Doctor Zhao.”Full novel: Transmigrated into a 1970s Young Widow, My “Dead” Husband Came Back — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

And then… nothing more.

Doctor Zhao looked at her, finding her reaction unusually calm.

Even if saying Qi Yanjue’s wound was bleeding had been just an excuse, she should at least show some concern, shouldn’t she? At the very least, she should ask whether the bleeding had stopped.

But she didn’t. She just stood there by the cabinet, lost in thought about something unknown.

Doctor Zhao glanced at Qi Yanjue and deliberately asked Song Yueying, “Aren’t you staying in the ward to take care of the patient? Where did you go?”

Song Yueying looked up at him and replied with a smile, “I went out to join in some excitement. A foreigner came to the hospital and was mistaken for a spy, someone even tried to hit him.”

“The appearance difference between foreigners and Chinese people is so obvious. How could he possibly come here personally as a spy? But those people insisted he was one. Isn’t that funny?”

Neither Doctor Zhao nor Qi Yanjue found it funny. That was their shared thought.

They were both clear-minded people. At a time like this, a foreigner openly appearing in China would not be a spy from another country, it would only be a technical engineer invited at great expense by the state.

Their silence did not dampen Song Yueying’s enthusiasm to share.

She continued, “That foreigner was so scared he was crying out for God to save him, waving his hands and insisting he meant no harm.”

“But those people misunderstood him, thinking he was insulting them and that his gestures meant he wanted to fight them.”

Both Qi Yanjue and Doctor Zhao’s pupils contracted sharply. A storm was already raging in their hearts.

She said that the foreigner was so frightened he cried out for God and kept gesturing to say he meant no harm, this meant she understood a foreign language.

How could a child who grew up in the countryside possibly understand foreign languages?

To avoid Song Yueying noticing that they knew each other, Qi Yanjue and Doctor Zhao did not exchange a single glance.

Both of them looked at Song Yueying with complicated expressions, caution, suspicion, and also curiosity.

Song Yueying indeed did not notice that the two of them knew each other. She only subtly observed their reactions.

Yes, she had deliberately exposed the fact that she understood foreign languages in front of Qi Yanjue and Doctor Zhao.

On the surface, she pretended not to notice anything and calmly recounted what had happened in the foreigner’s ward.

Finally, she reminded Doctor Zhao, “Oh right, the most active troublemaker was a nurse from your hospital. Doctor Zhao, I suggest you investigate her.”

“Her behavior is very abnormal.”

Suppressing the complexity in his eyes, Doctor Zhao nodded. “I will pass your suggestion on to the hospital leadership.”

“Mm.” Song Yueying responded lightly, not caring whether he was just brushing her off. She had only made a reminder, whether he reported it to the leadership had nothing to do with her.

Doctor Zhao, unaware of her thoughts, continued to instruct her, “His injuries are serious. There must always be someone in the ward. Also, when you help him sit up, try to avoid touching his wounds.”

“Didn’t you say he needs to lie down and recover? Why would I need to help him sit up?” Song Yueying asked in confusion.

“There are basic personal needs. You’re his family, so taking care of him is only natural,” Doctor Zhao said.

“Who said I’m his family? I’m not his family.” Song Yueying immediately denied it, this had to be made clear. Asking her to take care of Qi Yanjue? What a joke.

He taking a knife for her was one thing, trying to make her pay his medical bills was reasonable.

But expecting her to take care of him? Not a chance.

“You’re not his family?” Doctor Zhao was shocked when she refused.

“No,” Song Yueying denied without even thinking.

Seeing her answer so decisively, Doctor Zhao was momentarily stunned. He turned to look at Qi Yanjue, who had not said a single word since Song Yueying entered the ward.

“She says she’s not your family?” Doctor Zhao asked in surprise.

“Mm.” Qi Yanjue responded calmly. He wasn’t surprised, she had already denied it before.

Seeing how calm he was, Doctor Zhao assumed their divorce might actually go very smoothly.

But then he remembered how Song Yueying had once insisted on marrying Qi Yanjue at all costs, and he couldn’t believe she would truly agree to a divorce so easily.

So he decided to test her. “Even if you’re not his family, you were the one who brought him to the hospital. As the saying goes, if you do a good deed, you should see it through to the end.”

“So the responsibility of taking care of him falls on you as well.”

“On what grounds?” Song Yueying objected.

“On the grounds that you brought him here yourself, and that you’re kind-hearted and do good deeds,” Doctor Zhao replied, using her own words against her.

“Hey—” Song Yueying was so annoyed she almost laughed. “Are you two teaming up to extort me?”

“Extort you? Who’s extorting whom?” Doctor Zhao also laughed in anger. In his mind, wasn’t it exactly because of “extortion” that she had managed to marry Qi Yanjue in the first place?

After saying that, Doctor Zhao left in a huff.

“What kind of attitude is that?” Song Yueying was tempted to go after him and argue, or even beat him up.

She turned back to confront Qi Yanjue, only to find him staring straight at her.

Her brow twitched.

Seeing his face alternately turning green and pale, Song Yueying instinctively assumed he needed to use the bathroom. After thinking for a moment, she gritted her teeth, went to close the ward door, and returned to stand beside the bed.

She took out a white pill and held it in front of Qi Yanjue. “Swallow it.”

Noticing her sneaky expression and then looking at the white pill in her palm, Qi Yanjue did not comply. Instead, he frowned and asked, “What medicine is this?”

“It’s for stopping bleeding and relieving pain. Hurry up and take it,” Song Yueying urged.

The yellow pill she had given him in the alley was a broad-spectrum antidote. Although it could also stop bleeding and relieve pain, its effect was not as fast as the white pill.

Stopping bleeding and relieving pain, how could that possibly be solved with just a single pill? Even imported medicines didn’t have such effects. Qi Yanjue assumed she must have been deceived by whoever sold her these pills.

“Where did you get this medicine?” he asked, while already calculating in his mind.

First, he would get her to reveal the identity of the person selling fake medicine and where they usually operated. Then he would report it to the public security bureau and have them arrest the seller.

Such people had to be dealt with strictly.

“I made it myself,” Song Yueying said, feeling he was too long-winded. She impatiently asked, “Are you going to take it or not? If not, I’m putting it away.”

The pills she made were highly effective and very expensive. She only gave him one because he was good-looking and because the injury on his arm was caused by him taking a knife for her.

Also, she didn’t want to take care of him, or help him to the bathroom.

For most people, even if they wanted to buy her pills, she wouldn’t sell them. The fact that she was giving him one for free meant he should be deeply grateful.

Qi Yanjue froze.

So she was the one making fake medicine.

No, that wasn’t quite right. More precisely, she was the one producing it. After all, she hadn’t sold it to anyone yet, so she couldn’t technically be called a fraudster selling fake medicine.
