After the meal, everyone sat back rubbing their stomachs.
Old Master Gu even let out a satisfied sigh.
“What kind of heavenly life is this?”
“These past few days, I’ve been eating meat every day.”
“In the past, how could we ever afford to eat this much meat?”
If only life could stay like this forever…
Once everyone had eaten their fill, Gu Xiaoxiao told the family about the rabbit being pregnant.
She also suggested that they start raising rabbits to sell.
“Oh my!”
“I never expected that!”
“I thought you were raising them just for fun.”
“I didn’t know they could actually produce baby rabbits!”
Xu Yan exclaimed in surprise.
Old Madam Gu, however, was curious about something else.
Nobody in the family knew anything about raising rabbits.
How did Xiaoxiao know the rabbit was pregnant?
“Xiaoxiao, how did you know the rabbit is pregnant?”
Gu Xiaoxiao lied without batting an eye.
She never even needed time to make up an excuse.
“Because its belly looks a little swollen.”
“It’s usually very gentle.”
“But when I tried to touch it just now, it became aggressive.”
“I heard somewhere before that when a rabbit suddenly changes its temperament, it usually means it’s pregnant.”
“So this rabbit must be pregnant.”
The entire family nodded in realization.
“Oh, so that’s how it is.”
“As expected of Xiaoxiao.”
“She really knows so much!”
Seeing that nobody continued questioning her, Gu Xiaoxiao quickly changed the subject.
Turning to Gu Zhenzhong, she said,
“Big Brother, can you catch more rabbits?”
“If we have more rabbits, we can raise lots and lots of them!”
Seeing how excited his little sister was, there was no way he could refuse.
“Of course!”
“This afternoon I’ll go up the mountain and look for some.”
“I’ll catch more rabbits for you!”
Gu Xiaoxiao immediately cheered.
“Great!”
“I want to come too!”
After all, her encyclopedia system could scan objects.
It could even tell her where rabbit burrows were located.
The adults watched the children chatting excitedly and simply smiled.
No one interrupted them.
Instead, they quietly cleared away the dishes.
Normally, after lunch would come rest time.
But not today.
The entire Gu family crowded into a room, staring blankly at the pile of copper coins on the table.
“Is this really the money you earned from selling savory flatbreads today?”
Old Madam Gu looked at Gu Xiaoxiao uncertainly.
Muttering to herself, she said,
“It should be… right?”
“When we left this morning, the money jar was empty.”
“And now all of this appeared today…”
“Does that mean we really earned three hundred copper coins?”
Gu Xiaoxiao laughed at their shocked expressions and shook her head.
“Today was only a trial run.”
“We didn’t prepare much dough.”
“And we gave away quite a few samples.”
“If we prepare more tomorrow, we should be able to sell even more.”
Old Madam Gu’s mouth fell open slightly.
Even more?
Wouldn’t that mean four or five hundred copper coins?
She had never earned that much money in her entire life.
No wonder so many people wanted to become merchants.
Who wouldn’t like making money this way?
Following Gu Xiaoxiao’s instructions, Old Madam Gu carefully put the money away.
She hid it beneath the bottom of a large chest.
After struggling to push the heavy box back into place, she finally nodded in satisfaction.
At this point, even she would have trouble retrieving it herself.
Once everything was settled, everyone headed out again.
The adults returned to the fields.
The children headed for the mountains to catch rabbits.
Before leaving, Old Master Gu repeatedly warned them,
“Don’t go into the deep mountains.”
“No matter what happens, stay near the outer areas.”
Although Gu Zhenzhong knew a bit of martial arts, it was only enough to be considered amateur level.
If they encountered a large wild animal, he wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Fortunately, he knew his own limits.
There was no way he would recklessly take his younger brother and sister deep into the mountains.
The three children carried baskets and followed Gu Zhenzhong up the hillside.
Since he spent so much time hunting, he was very familiar with the area.
Soon, he led them to a rabbit burrow he had discovered previously.
They crouched nearby and waited.
Just after they settled down, a furry rabbit ear slowly poked out of the hole.
The moment Gu Yanchen spotted it, he nearly cried out.
But when he turned around, he saw that both his brother and sister were silently watching the rabbit.
Suddenly, he remembered something.
His sister had once told him that rabbits preferred quiet environments.
If people made too much noise, the rabbits would get scared and run away.
Realizing this, Gu Yanchen immediately covered his mouth.
I can’t shout.
I’ll scare the rabbits away.
And then we won’t catch them.
Thinking this through, he even nodded seriously to himself.
Meanwhile, Gu Xiaoxiao and Gu Zhenzhong were completely focused on the rabbit.
Neither of them noticed Gu Yanchen’s little reaction.
The rabbit emerged from the burrow and cautiously looked around.
Apparently deciding the area was safe, it disappeared back inside.
Gu Xiaoxiao thought it had gone back for good.
But moments later, the rabbit reappeared.
And another rabbit followed behind it.
Gu Xiaoxiao’s eyes instantly lit up.
Two rabbits!
The pair hopped over to a patch of grass near them and began nibbling.
They spent forever chewing on the same blade of grass.
It was the perfect opportunity.
Gu Xiaoxiao exchanged a glance with Gu Zhenzhong.
Neither of them spoke.
Yet both instantly understood.
Gu Xiaoxiao gave him a hand signal.
The next second—
They burst out of the bushes.
Gu Zhenzhong grabbed one rabbit.
Gu Xiaoxiao grabbed the other.
The rabbits still had grass hanging from their mouths.
Neither seemed frightened.
Neither struggled in the slightest.
When Gu Yanchen saw the successful capture, he jumped excitedly.
“Wow!”
“Big Brother and Big Sister are amazing!”
“You caught the rabbits!”
Laughing happily, Gu Xiaoxiao placed her rabbit into Gu Yanchen’s basket.
His basket had a lid, making it perfect for keeping rabbits from escaping.
To make sure they stayed calm, she tossed in a handful of fresh grass for them to eat.
After securing his rabbit as well, Gu Zhenzhong prepared to lead them to another burrow.
But Gu Xiaoxiao quickly scanned the area with her system.
To her surprise, another rabbit had already emerged from the same hole.
She immediately grabbed both Gu Zhenzhong and Gu Yanchen and pulled them back into the bushes.
Gu Zhenzhong looked completely confused.
Just as he was about to ask what was happening, Gu Xiaoxiao raised a finger to her lips.
“Shh.”
“Don’t move.”
“More rabbits are coming out.”
“Look at the burrow.”
The moment they heard there were more rabbits, both boys swallowed their questions.
Sure enough, after a short wait, two more rabbits emerged.
Just like the previous pair, they hopped over to the same patch of grass and began munching away.
They looked just as clueless and carefree as the others.
Gu Xiaoxiao exchanged another glance with Gu Zhenzhong.
She made the same hand signal.
The next moment, both of them sprang forward.
One rabbit each.
A perfect capture.
