Sitting in a modified off-road vehicle, Bai Zixi was currently munching on a piece of bread with a bored expression.
Military families really were different. Even when going out for a trip, everyone was fully armed, with plenty of firearms prepared. They even had sniper rifles and scopes!
Including her, there were only four people in the vehicle, which was why she found the journey so boring. The three men were all dressed in green combat uniforms, sitting there with stern expressions.
She wanted to earn some points, but there was no opportunity to do so. Yan Shaochen, who was sitting beside her, maintained an upright posture while studying the map in his hands.
Compared to them, Zhu Rui and the others seemed much more adorable.
She sighed and looked out at the zombies. There was a beautiful woman sitting right beside them, yet they remained completely indifferent. They really were a bunch of emotionally clueless, straight-laced men!
By the afternoon, the vehicle was traveling along a mountain road. Before long, they arrived at a private airport located on the mountaintop. There wasn’t a single zombie in sight up there.
Bai Zixi finally understood the purpose of this trip. Indeed, there wasn’t much danger involved.
“Take these two helicopters back to the base,” Yan Shaochen said calmly, glancing at Nineteen and Eighteen.
“What about me?” Bai Zixi also wanted to ride in a helicopter. She had never been on one before, and this particular model looked pretty cool.
Yan Shaochen replied in an indifferent tone, “Drive the vehicle back the way we came.”
Bai Zixi: “…”
There were so many damn things she wanted to say, but she didn’t know whether she should say them out loud!
In the end, she obediently went to play the role of driver.
Although Bai Zixi had obtained her driver’s license two years ago, she hadn’t driven since then. Nervously, she gripped the steering wheel.
The vehicle swerved rather unsteadily under her control. The mountain road had no guardrails, so she drove very slowly, occasionally slamming on the brakes.
Yan Shaochen’s deep voice suddenly rang out.
“Stop the car. Get out.”
Bai Zixi, who had clearly been deemed unfit to drive, wasn’t offended. She obediently got out and moved to the passenger seat, secretly relieved that she no longer had to drive.
By the time they reached the foot of the mountain, darkness had already fallen.
They had originally planned to continue driving back, but after the apocalypse, there were no longer any streetlights. Relying solely on the vehicle’s headlights made traveling rather dangerous.
More importantly, zombies became much more active at night. Right now, a vehicle ahead of them was surrounded by more than a dozen zombies.
“What should we do?” Bai Zixi wasn’t particularly frightened. The road was simply blocked, and she wasn’t sure how they could get past. As for rescuing the people inside, that hadn’t even crossed her mind.
Yan Shaochen calmly made his decision.
“Open fire.”
He wasn’t a cold-blooded person. As long as their own safety was assured, he was willing to help others within his capabilities.
Without hesitation, Bai Zixi picked up her pistol, attached a silencer, and aimed at the group of zombies several dozen meters away.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
She fired several consecutive shots.
The zombies quickly noticed them and shifted their attention, charging toward their vehicle. Their movement speed was much faster than during the daytime.
Yan Shaochen immediately turned the vehicle around and drove backward, putting enough distance between them and the zombies to give her a chance to shoot them one by one.
This was what people called the drive-by shooting technique!
Bai Zixi couldn’t help wondering whether her shooting skills were simply too good or whether Yan Shaochen was just that skilled behind the wheel. Regardless, she had to admit that he was an experienced driver.
She couldn’t even enjoy being a proper lady. Every day, she was being made to carry a gun and fight. Honestly, it was exhausting!
In less than ten minutes, the road was already littered with zombie corpses.
The vehicle they had rescued soon escaped from the scene as well.
By now, it had become completely dark. Yan Shaochen drove the vehicle onto a small side road and stopped in front of a detached two-story house.
He took a flashlight and got out. Bai Zixi quickly followed behind him.
The front door was open, but the inside of the house was pitch-black.
This felt a little like going into a haunted house!
The moment that thought crossed her mind, she became frightened and instinctively hid behind Yan Shaochen’s back.
As soon as they entered, a zombie lunged straight at them.
Yan Shaochen casually summoned a bolt of lightning and struck the zombie in the head.
Just as the first zombie fell, another one suddenly rushed out from upstairs.
Bai Zixi quickly raised her pistol, aimed at its head, and blew it away with a single shot.
“Clean them up.”
He turned around and shone the flashlight on the two corpses lying on the floor, speaking in his usual indifferent tone.
Had he gotten so used to ordering her around? Could he stop treating her like one of his subordinates?
Even though she was extremely reluctant, she had no choice but to obediently get to work.
Sigh… What a miserable life!
