Bai Zixi kept attacking Yan Shaochen with all her strength, but he effortlessly dodged every single move. After several exchanges, she hadn’t even managed to touch the corner of his clothes. This was just too unfair!
Enraged, she launched a spinning kick straight toward his handsome face. In an instant, he caught her ankle with one hand.
The awkward position of balancing on one leg made her pretty face turn bright red. Her slender, fair leg struggled desperately to break free.
“Let go! I surrender!” she exclaimed. She didn’t want to fight anymore. She was covered in sweat and felt extremely uncomfortable.
Yan Shaochen released his large hand from around her ankle.
“Tomorrow morning at nine. Report to the first floor and gather for a mission.”
What?! Bai Zixi looked extremely reluctant. She wasn’t ready to leave the base yet.
She then turned her gaze toward Yan Shaoyu, softening her voice as she asked, “Captain, can I skip it?”
“Don’t worry, Zixi. This mission won’t be too dangerous,” Yan Shaoyu reassured her. However, he had no authority to overturn his eldest brother’s decision.
Lin Jiao gathered her courage and stepped forward to make a request.
“Um… I’d like to go too.”
Although the zombies outside were terrifying, she still wanted to accompany Zixi.
“Can you fight? Do you know how to use a gun? Come with me to the training ground tomorrow. Improve your abilities first, then we’ll talk about it!”
After bluntly crushing her hopes, Yan Shaoyu immediately made arrangements for her.
At their base, everyone had to earn their food through their own labor and combat abilities, including the people who worked within the base. Useless people were looked down upon here.
Lin Jiao was left speechless by his harsh response. She felt deeply wronged but didn’t dare show it. When living under someone else’s roof, she had no choice but to follow their rules.
“Hmph! Jiajia, let’s go!”
Bai Zixi snorted and pulled Lin Jiao along as they quickly left the gym.
Yan Shaochen watched her retreating figure, the corners of his lips lifting slightly.
What an inexperienced little girl. She hasn’t yet experienced the harsh lessons life has to offer.
…
Once they were outside, Bai Zixi finally breathed a sigh of relief. Those brothers really knew how to say things that rubbed people the wrong way.
The two returned to their respective rooms, took showers, and then headed downstairs together to the dining room.
Bai Zixi wore a sky-blue long dress, her slightly damp black hair cascading loosely over her shoulders.
Lin Jiao also wore a white knee-length dress. Together, the two of them made a beautiful sight.
When they sat down, Father Yan smiled warmly and complimented them.
“My wife was the one who picked out those dresses. They really suit the two of you!”
Thinking of his late wife, who had always cared so much about Bai Zixi, Father Yan couldn’t help feeling sad and regretful. She hadn’t lived long enough to see Bai Zixi grow into such a lovely young woman.
“Uncle, please don’t be sad,” Bai Zixi gently comforted him. She didn’t really know what else to say.

Father Yan quickly composed himself.
“Come on, eat more vegetables. I’m fine.”
He looked at the two sweet and well-behaved young girls, then glanced at his three sons, who were completely absorbed in their food.
Sure enough, having daughters was much better!
He had created such a wonderful opportunity for his sons to find themselves girlfriends, yet not one of them had made any progress. They were truly hopeless!
“Zixi, have you ever been in a relationship during all these years on the island?” Father Yan asked, casually probing for information.
Bai Zixi was momentarily stunned by the question before answering honestly.
“Of course not! I’ve been busy studying hard.”
She wore an innocent, well-behaved expression.
After hearing her answer, Father Yan felt relieved. His sons still had a chance!
He was just about to ask Lin Jiao about her situation when she suddenly stood up and politely said,
“Uncle, I’m full. Please enjoy your meal. I’ll head back to my room first.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she hurried out of the dining room and headed upstairs.
“What’s wrong with her?” Father Yan asked with a puzzled expression. “Did I scare her away?”
Bai Zixi also stood up and gently replied,
“It’s nothing, Uncle. I’ll go upstairs and check on her. Please continue eating.”
After saying that, she walked out as well.
Yan Shaochen gracefully picked up his napkin and wiped the corner of his mouth. He then stood up and leisurely left the dining room.
