Inside the helicopter, Bai Zixi wore a black leather skirt paired with short boots. Black wrist guards covered her wrists, while her long black hair cascaded loosely over her shoulders. She looked both cool and stunning.
Holding a pair of binoculars, she carefully observed the situation on the island.
Han Shuo, who was beside her, reported, “There are survivors on the rooftop of the dormitory building.”
“Increase our flying speed,” Yan Shaoyu ordered, his expression serious and his tone heavy.
“That’s bad! Zombies are attacking the survivors on the rooftop. There are quite a lot of them!”
Mo Yanfeng realized that the situation was unfavorable and couldn’t wait to rush over and rescue them.
“Everyone, move back! Hold your ground! The rescue team will arrive soon!” Jiang Shan shouted encouragingly while firing his rifle at the zombies pouring out through the doorway.
Just as they were about to be overwhelmed, two military helicopters finally arrived overhead.
The sound of continuous gunfire rang out. The zombies on the rooftop were instantly showered with bullets, and dozens of them gradually collapsed to the ground.
Suddenly, a Level 2 zombie moved at incredible speed and lunged toward Jiang Shan, who was closest to it.
Just as it was about to bite him—
BANG!
The sharp crack of a 98K sniper rifle rang out.
The Level 2 zombie let out a roar and paused for a few seconds. Immediately afterward, another shot struck its head, spraying black blood everywhere as it fell to the ground.
Bai Zixi held the sniper rifle with both hands. Her beautiful eyes focused on the little red dot inside the 6x scope. After firing several shots, she lifted her head to rest her eyes for a moment.
The helicopters hovered approximately ten meters above the rooftop. Apart from the two pilots, Eighteen and Nineteen, everyone else climbed down using the rope ladders.
When Mu Ya saw Bai Zixi descending, she couldn’t help shouting excitedly.
“Zixi! Is that you?”
She was still weak, but seeing her former comrade made her so excited that she completely forgot about her physical condition.
She immediately walked over to Bai Zixi and grabbed her hand.
“Zixi, I’ve missed you so much!”
Bai Zixi stared at her in confusion.
Why was she being so enthusiastic? Had the shock of everything that happened frightened her so badly?
Seeing how much Mu Ya missed her, Bai Zixi quickly comforted her in a gentle voice.
“It’s okay now. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
System Notification: Affection +5. Current Points: 66.
Before Bai Zixi could finish speaking, Mu Ya pulled her into a big, affectionate hug.
It was a touching scene, but Bai Zixi patted Mu Ya’s back as though she were comforting a little child.
Deep down, she was a little disgusted by how dirty Mu Ya was.
After all, this was the dress she’d exchanged for three points at the System Mall!
Fortunately, it had a self-cleaning function. Besides, Mu Ya had just contributed five points to her, so she supposed she could let her hug her for a while.
Yan Shaochen slightly furrowed his brows when he saw Bai Zixi being hugged by someone else.
For some reason, he felt a little displeased. He couldn’t understand why he was having such an emotion, so he quickly turned his face away.
“Everyone, concentrate your firepower and continue clearing the area!” he commanded in his deep voice.
An hour later, not a single zombie emerged from the rooftop entrance anymore.
Rotting, foul-smelling corpses were piled up all around the rooftop. Finally, smiles of relief appeared on everyone’s faces.
Had they really been rescued?
They could hardly believe it!
“I don’t have to die anymore! Heaven must have taken pity on me after more than twenty years of being single!”
“I even traded thirty years of being single for this second chance at life. Looks like my wish has finally come true!”
“Pfft! You guys are going to kill me with laughter!”
…
Jiang Shan walked over to Yan Shaochen with an apologetic expression.
“I’m sorry. I failed to fulfill my responsibilities.”
Yan Shaochen remained cold and expressionless. He simply reached out and patted Jiang Shan on the shoulder. No words were necessary.
In the end, they arranged for twenty people to board the helicopters first, while the remaining dozen or so would wait for the next trip.
“Um… I was scratched by a zombie. I’m afraid I can’t leave with you,” Mu Ya said quietly, lowering her head.
If she mutated while inside the helicopter, she would be putting everyone in danger.
Zhou Yanfeng, who was standing beside her, spoke up.
“I’m not leaving either. I’ll stay with her.”
Yan Shaoyu made the necessary arrangements. Now, only the familiar group of people remained on the rooftop, while both helicopters had already flown away from the island.
They still needed to go to the air-raid shelter to collect the supplies. There might also be other survivors hiding in the woods.
As for the next helicopter trip, they would have to wait at least five hours.
It would probably be evening by the time it returned.
