As soon as Qin Ruoyao heard that, she sat up straight and looked at him.
A singing competition?
This was a golden opportunity.
She had to participate. If she missed it, she would definitely regret it.
“Of course she should join! How could she not? When are the auditions?”
He had known she’d be interested.
“The audition dates haven’t been finalized yet, but they won’t be far off. We should start preparing now so we’ll be ready when the time comes.”
Qin Ruoyao cupped his face in her hands.
“Husband, you’re amazing!”
Leaning close to her ear, Mo Junlin whispered, “Then tonight, I want…”
No one else could hear what he said, but judging by the embarrassed look on Qin Ruoyao’s face, it was definitely not an innocent request.
After agreeing to his unreasonable demand, Qin Ruoyao prepared to head downstairs to find Qin Ruohan and the others.
The timing was perfect. They had almost finished their discussion and had already sent her a voice message saying everything was settled.
Qin Ruohan would start her lessons the following day, with a one-week training schedule.
“Are you done with work? Do you want to go home with us?”
Qin Ruoyao picked up her bag and asked Mo Junlin.
Now that things were settled, she didn’t want to stay at the office any longer. Besides, she felt she was distracting him from work.
Mo Junlin shook his head.
“I still have things to do later. You go ahead. Don’t wait for me for dinner—I’ve got a business dinner tonight and I’ll be home late.”
“Then don’t drink too much, okay?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
He kissed her lightly.
“Come on, I’ll walk you to the elevator.”
At his level, very few people dared force him to drink anyway.
Qin Ruoyao didn’t tell Qin Ruohan about the competition just yet because nothing was certain.
The most important thing right now was to focus on training and be fully prepared.
From then on, Qin Ruohan went to the company every morning, and Mo Junlin arranged for a driver to pick her up and drop her off.
Their schedules didn’t always align, and Qin Ruohan didn’t want anyone seeing her get out of her brother-in-law’s car and starting rumors.
After a week of training, Qin Ruohan improved rapidly.
She had always been an excellent student, and because singing was something she genuinely loved, she worked even harder.
Meanwhile, the talent show was officially announced.
It would begin on July 20th—the following week.
Qin Ruoyao also started preparing a song for her.
Since Qin Ruohan was a complete newcomer with no fanbase or recognition, Qin Ruoyao decided to choose a classic song with broad appeal:
“Invisible Wings.”
“Xiaohan! Xiaohan! Guess what? We’ve got a chance—a real chance!”
Fang Yun burst through the practice room door in excitement.
At that moment, Qin Ruohan was alone. She usually trained alongside other artists, but she had stayed later than everyone else.
“What’s wrong, Sister Fang? Why are you so excited?”
“Did you know? Our company invested in a talent show with Tomato TV. It’s a singing competition called Sing If You Want to Sing, and it starts next week.”
She barely paused for breath.
“It’ll air live every Sunday at 8 p.m. on both television and online platforms. If you win, you’ll debut as a singer. Even if you don’t win, just appearing on the show will give you exposure. Once people know who you are and you gain popularity, you’ll already be halfway to making your debut.”
“I’ve already signed you up. Starting now, you need to focus on preparing your performance songs.”
For an unknown newcomer, this was an incredible opportunity.
A stage was the best place to showcase talent.
After hearing everything, Qin Ruohan agreed that it was a rare chance.
“Thank you for telling me, Sister Fang. I’ll start practicing right away. My sister has already prepared a song for me.”
She showed Fang Yun the message.
Leaning over to take a look, Fang Yun saw the simple note from the president’s wife:
“The song is ready.”
“Then I’ll practice extra hard tonight and become as familiar with it as possible.”
“That’s the spirit. Putting in the effort is already half the battle.”
When Qin Ruohan returned to the Mo family estate, she spotted Qin Ruoyao and hurried over.
“Sis! Where’s the song you promised me? I need to start preparing for the competition right away.”
Without saying a word, Qin Ruoyao led her upstairs to her room and handed her a sheet of paper.
It was the score for Invisible Wings.
Qin Ruohan looked at the title.
“Invisible Wings.”
It sounded beautiful.
Having already learned how to read sheet music, she began humming softly.
Every time,
I stay strong through loneliness and uncertainty.
Every time,
Even when deeply hurt,
I refuse to let my tears shine.
I know,
I’ve always had a pair of invisible wings,
Carrying me
Beyond despair…
When she finished singing, one thought filled her mind.
The song was beautiful, inspiring, and full of hope.
It felt as though it had been written specifically for her.
Her sister was unbelievably talented.
Having a genius in the family really was incredible.
Overcome with excitement, Qin Ruohan rushed toward Qin Ruoyao, intending to hug her.
Remembering her sister’s pregnancy at the last second, she stopped herself and instead planted a quick kiss on her cheek.
Unfortunately, Mo Junlin had just walked through the door and witnessed the entire scene.
His expression turned blank as he stared at Qin Ruohan.
Qin Ruohan stuck out her tongue.
Her brother-in-law was such a jealous person.
Over the past few weeks, she had come to understand just how possessive he was about her sister.
If she stayed chatting with Qin Ruoyao for too long at night, he would start subtly urging her to leave.
“Hello, Brother-in-law. Sis, I’m going to practice my song now.”
With that, she hurried out and thoughtfully closed the door behind her.
Mo Junlin walked over to Qin Ruoyao with a serious expression.
He took out a wet wipe and carefully cleaned the spot where Qin Ruohan had kissed her.
Sometimes, Qin Ruoyao truly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“That’s my sister. A girl. You scared her just now.”
Only after making sure he’d wiped the spot clean did he respond.
“She’s not that fragile. She seems carefree enough—she probably won’t even remember it.”
Then he added,
“What was she so excited about anyway? That kind of behavior isn’t appropriate. It’s one thing because she’s a girl, but if it had been a boy, people could misunderstand. Girls should be more careful.”
For someone who was usually reserved and quiet, Mo Junlin was surprisingly talkative on this subject.
Clearly, he disliked it very much.
“All right, all right. I’ll remind her to be more careful next time.”
Qin Ruoyao spoke gently.
“She’s still young. What’s wrong with a little childish enthusiasm? Xiaohan knows her limits. Nothing inappropriate will happen.”
Mo Junlin cupped her cheek and looked into her eyes.
“This spot belongs to me alone.”
Amused, Qin Ruoyao leaned forward and kissed him.
“Fine. It’s yours and yours alone.”
Then she smiled.
“Have you eaten yet?”
He shook his head.
“No. I wanted to come home and eat with you. I haven’t spent much time with you these past few days.”
He felt guilty for neglecting her.
“It’s okay. You’ve been busy with work—I understand. Mom and Xiaohan have been keeping me company, so I’m not lonely at all. You’re the one who’s been working so hard outside.”
Qin Ruoyao felt sorry for him instead.
“Silly girl.”
Mo Junlin smiled softly.
“What man doesn’t work hard? But for the two of you, I’d do it willingly.”
It was rare for him to say something so sentimental.
Taking her hand, he led her downstairs.
“Come on. Let’s go have dinner.”
