Next came the toasting segment. Gu Beiting and Mu Youyou went table to table, offering drinks.
“Congratulations, Captain Gu!”
“Captain Gu, I toast to you both. Wishing you a long and happy marriage, and children soon!”
…
Gu Beiting had a strong tolerance for alcohol, drinking a lot yet remaining unaffected.
Mu Youyou, however, was less fortunate. Although Li Yumei had given her watered-down wine, her cheeks were flushed and she felt dizzy.
“Are you okay? Do you feel unwell?” Gu Beiting asked, concerned.
“No, I’m just a little drunk,” Mu Youyou whispered.
“I’ll take you back to rest first,” Gu Beiting said, lifting her in his arms.
“Put me down, I can walk myself,” Mu Youyou said shyly, lowering her head.
Gu Beiting ignored her protest and carried her to the car, driving her home.
“Oh wow, Captain Gu is so considerate! Look how steady he’s holding his wife—didn’t let her fall a bit,” whispered a group of gossiping military wives.
“Yeah, the cold-faced devil of a captain really fell for her this time,” one said.
“But Captain Gu is impressive, marrying such a beautiful girl,” another commented.
“Yes, she looks gentle and elegant, probably has a good temperament too.”
“Indeed, Captain Gu hit the jackpot. I heard she’s from the capital and used to be a teacher.”
…
Inside the house, Gu Beiting gently laid Mu Youyou on the bed.
“My wife, you rest first. I still have to entertain guests,” he said, giving her a glass of water and watching her carefully as she drank.
“Okay,” Mu Youyou nodded. She felt weak, her eyelids heavy as if filled with lead.
Gu Beiting kissed her forehead and left the room.
As soon as he closed the courtyard door, Cai Cai used her powers to move Mu Youyou into the space and gave her a sip of spiritual spring water.
“Sis, tonight is the wedding night—you can’t sleep.”
“You’re more proactive than me, system,” Mu Youyou remarked, feeling better after drinking.
“Hehe.”
“Cai Cai, you’re not trying to watch a live broadcast, are you?” Mu Youyou suddenly remembered that Cai Cai could perceive what she was doing outside.
“Don’t worry, sis. We system operators are principled—these things are automatically blocked,” Cai Cai assured her.
“That’s good,” Mu Youyou said, relieved.
When Gu Beiting returned, he brought two full lunchboxes of food.
Seeing the food, Mu Youyou thought he probably hadn’t eaten much either. She took two bowls from the kitchen and divided the meal between them.
“Eat, my wife,” Gu Beiting said, placing a chicken drumstick in her bowl.
“You eat too,” Mu Youyou smiled at him.
“You look beautiful,” Gu Beiting said, his deep eyes fixed on her, a warm smile curling his lips.
Hearing the compliment, Mu Youyou felt sweet inside but teased him, “Flatterer!”
At night, Mu Youyou bathed early and lay in bed, nervous despite trying not to be.
When Gu Beiting came in after showering, Mu Youyou shyly covered herself with the blanket.
“My wife, isn’t it hot in summer?” he asked softly.
Mu Youyou lifted the blanket, revealing her fair, delicate face. Gu Beiting was stunned—she looked like a goddess.
Seeing him staring, Mu Youyou blushed more.
“You—you’re not wearing clothes?” she asked, eyes wide at his bare chest. His physique rivaled models on TV, and she swallowed hard.
Gu Beiting glanced at his chest. He had removed his shirt because of the heat but now wanted to tease her.
“Wife, want to touch?” he asked mischievously, showing off his muscular body.
Mu Youyou’s trembling fingertips brushed over his firm chest, feeling the heat radiating from his skin.
“Do you like it?” Gu Beiting asked, his voice husky and teasing.
Blushing, Mu Youyou nodded. Gu Beiting kissed her lips.
“Mm… Gu Beiting…” she murmured softly, her voice like a cat’s gentle purr.
He kissed her while laying her down on the bed.
“Wife…” Gu Beiting’s breathing grew heavier, his lips tracing her earlobe.
…
Afterwards, Mu Youyou nestled in Gu Beiting’s arms, and they fell asleep together.
The next morning, Mu Youyou woke with a sore back, memories of last night flooding back.
Gu Beiting’s stamina was astonishing!
“Sleep a bit more, my wife,” Gu Beiting said, holding her and gently patting her back like soothing a baby.
“I won’t,” Mu Youyou checked the clock—8 a.m.
In the military courtyard, neighbors could see everything. After yesterday’s wedding, many eyes were on them, especially given Gu Beiting’s identity.
Sitting up, Mu Youyou noticed marks all over her body.
“Gu Beiting!” she exclaimed, glaring at him.
“Hmm?” Gu Beiting, getting dressed, saw her angry expression and playfully pinched her nose. “Why still mad?”
“You!” Mu Youyou pointed to the marks on her body.
“Well, my wife, I…” Gu Beiting coughed awkwardly.
“How am I supposed to face people? It’s summer!”
“My wife, I’m going to wash up,” he said, fleeing the room, fearing punishment.
Watching him run off, Mu Youyou truly wanted to drag him back and give him a good scolding.
In the end, she had to wear a shirt and used concealer bought from the mall to hide the marks.
Seeing her finally come out, Gu Beiting quickly tried to appease her, “Wife, don’t be mad. I’ll be gentler next time.”
“Hmph!” Mu Youyou pushed him away, angrily fetching water to brush her teeth.
“I’ll help you,” Gu Beiting hurried to squeeze toothpaste and prepare water.
“What do you want for breakfast?” Mu Youyou asked after washing up, looking at him.
