It was the first time for both of them to see a marriage certificate from this era, and they found it quite novel.

Each holding one, they examined it closely.

By the mid-to-late 1980s, marriage certificates had a unified national design, featuring a red cover and a small booklet folded in six sections.Full novel: Transmigrating to the ’90s: The Crazy Couple’s International Dealer Journey — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was similar to those of later generations, except that beneath the Chinese characters on the cover were pinyin annotations.

Opening the marriage certificate, the left side listed both of their names and dates of birth, with text written below: “Voluntarily married; upon examination, complies with the provisions regarding marriage in the Marriage Law of the People’s Republic of China, and is issued this certificate.”

On the right side, two one-inch black-and-white photos of them were pasted side by side, stamped with a red seal below.

The two people in the photos looked just as they did in real life.

Except that Tong Xiaoya looked dull-eyed, with a smile that carried a slight trace of foolishness.

On the other side, the photo of the Lei family’s son looked like he was eighteen or nineteen years old, appearing somewhat youthful and inexperienced.

Lei Yihong looked at that photo; it was almost identical to when he was in high school, even down to the hairstyle.

The degree of resemblance astounded him—this was clearly himself!

Tong Xiaoqian looked at the photo, then turned her head to look at the man in front of her, before turning back while choking back a laugh.

Who had ever seen a domineering CEO wearing red thermal underwear and red socks?

His hairstyle was even slicked down as smooth as if licked by a calf, making him look like the foolish son of a wealthy landlord.

Tong Xiaoqian rested her gaze on the calendar again. “Why don’t I have any memories?”

Just now, she had not considered the matter of time travel at all.

Who could have expected that melodramatic plotlines from novels would actually happen to her in real life?

Lei Yihong let out a cold laugh. “If you were that bride brought in to ward off bad luck, you were a fool; you probably really wouldn’t have any memories.”

Tong Xiaoqian retorted in annoyance, “You’re the fool!”

The two fell silent facing the unfamiliar environment for a long while.

Lei Yihong’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. “Is this ‘transmigration’ you mentioned borrowing a corpse to return a soul?”

“Pretty much. You don’t usually watch TV dramas or read online novels? Don’t you know what transmigration is?”

Lei Yihong truly did not watch those boring soap operas or nonsensical web novels.

However, that day McKee seemed to have babbled something about transmigration, though he hadn’t listened carefully at the time.

That guy was a pure chatterbox.

Lei Yihong asked in confusion, “Why would transmigration happen? What conditions are required?”

Tong Xiaoqian shook her head. “I don’t know. If someone figured out transmigration, it would have become a tourist hotspot by now.”

“Based on my years of experience reading melodramatic transmigration novels, usually people only transmigrate after dying.”

Lei Yihong subconsciously refuted, “Impossible. Just getting hit like that could cause death?”

Tong Xiaoqian was also somewhat bewildered; was it really that coincidental?

Just one hit and they transmigrated?

And coming in a group, was it so they wouldn’t feel lonely on the way?

Lei Yihong felt even more frustrated now. “If you hadn’t pulled me, I wouldn’t have gotten hit either.”

Tong Xiaoqian looked at him in confusion. “Didn’t you order people to start working?”

She had assumed Lei Yihong was disregarding human lives; otherwise, why would she be so angry?

Lei Yihong was momentarily speechless; spoken of like that by her, he couldn’t remember whether the workers had already started demolition or if it was just a coincidence.

“What about Grandma Tong?”

“She’s fine. By the time you went over, we had already agreed. That piece of land will be built into a nursing home in the future, and she can continue living there without us charging any fees until she passes away.”

Tong Xiaoqian breathed a sigh of relief; this arrangement was considered perfect. That place was already a dangerous building, and if Grandma Tong continued living there, it would be very unsafe.

Their three siblings had even planned to trick the old lady out first and tell her after the demolition was completed.

Thinking of Grandma Tong’s grey hair and kindly smile, Tong Xiaoqian could not help but feel a pang of sorrow in her heart.

She wondered if she was truly dead in the former world, and how sad Grandma Tong must be.

And what about her dogs?

Lei Yihong lowered his head and muttered softly, “If I die once more, will I transmigrate back?”

Tong Xiaoqian looked at him. “Or perhaps your account will be permanently closed in the universe from then on.”

“Give me the marriage certificate for safekeeping. We’ll still need it for a divorce in the future…”

Muttering under her breath, she reached out to take the one in Lei Yihong’s hand, but Lei Yihong drew his hand back. “Let’s keep them separately.”

Neither of them expected that two pure single dogs from another world would transmigrate here and end up married.

Tong Xiaoqian got off the bed and carefully examined the room again. It was not big, containing an earthen kang bed with a kang cabinet on top, and the furnishings in the room were very simple.

A writing desk, two chairs, plus a large wardrobe; the floor was rammed earth.

A small bookshelf stood on the writing desk, filled with books, and a stack of books was placed beside it, presumably belonging to the Lei family’s son.

She picked up the mirror on the desk, which had a red “Double Happiness” character pasted on it.

Her appearance in the mirror was no different from her original self, just five years younger and full of collagen, albeit slightly darker skin than before.

She pinched herself; her body shape was about the same, the S-curve was still there, but it wasn’t as firm as her original body.

What a pity for her abs.

Lei Yihong had not expected her to be so calm, even holding the mirror to check herself left and right.

Women were indeed women, first caring about their own looks…

As if guessing what was on his mind, Tong Xiaoqian tossed the mirror over to him.

Lei Yihong casually picked it up to look, his hand trembling so much he almost dropped the mirror.

Don’t tell him that the sick-looking devil in the mirror was him!

He looked down at his skin-and-bones hands and arms again; his abdominal muscles and mermaid line had turned into clearly visible rib bones and a thin, protruding pelvis.

And this side-parted hair, combed until shiny and greasy, was so slick a fly landing on it would do a split.

Tong Xiaoqian clapped her hands. “Come, let’s reintroduce ourselves. I’m Tong Xiaoqian. Foreign guests in a foreign land—no matter what conflicts we had before, now that we’re in the same trench, we are comrades-in-arms. When the time is right, we can go our separate ways.”

There was no major conflict between the two anyway, so clearing the air was enough.

Since they had ended up transmigrating, even having a fight wouldn’t solve the fundamental problem.

It was better to think about how to survive well in a foreign land.

Lei Yihong’s body shook slightly; as if possessed, he extended his hand to shake hers and said, “Alright…”
