Tonight’s moon was exceptionally bright—so bright that only a few stars were visible, making the sky appear somewhat blue.

The rare sense of leisure and tranquility made Su Mi reluctant to return to the guesthouse.

She had heard from older generations that on nights with a full moon, they could go out without flashlights or torches and still see the road clearly. She never imagined this was actually true.Full novel: Transmigrating to the Seventies: A Sent-down Youth Finds Love — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Using her Mental Power along the way had its benefits, after all.

Su Mi discovered another courtyard with no residents.

The rooms contained simple furniture and decorations. Since she was just passing by and saw no one around, she didn’t pay much attention at first. But she never expected that this house had a basement.

Along her journey, she had come across many cellars, but this was the first time she had found a basement.

Her first reaction was curiosity—wondering if the basement had hidden mechanisms like those in ancient TV dramas.

However, when she focused her Mental Power to investigate, she found something both unexpected and yet reasonable inside the basement.

A radio transmitter.

Wow! What ordinary household would have something like this?

Su Mi excitedly rubbed her hands together. Next to the radio were stacks of documents and a notebook, but those weren’t her main concern.

What caught her attention the most were the rows of wooden boxes stacked against three walls, filling them entirely. She couldn’t tell what kind of wood they were made of.

Inside were gold bars, calligraphy and paintings, antiques, and various jewelry and jade pieces.

There were also two full boxes of pistols, two boxes of ammunition, and eight more pistols of an older model.

Even in her time, these would be considered antiques.

If she hadn’t often watched war dramas, she might not have recognized the style.

But what made Su Mi even happier was one box containing several wild ginseng roots over a hundred years old and a large, crimson-capped lingzhi mushroom. Since there was no artificial cultivation at this time, she knew without a doubt they were all wild.

How could she not be tempted?

Su Mi wondered whether she should expose these items or report them to the public security bureau. But what if there were accomplices involved?

Setting aside other concerns, she was determined to take those boxes into her Dimensional Space.

Climbing over the courtyard wall, Su Mi approached the door and used the same method as before—a wire to pick the lock.

Then she entered the main room, pulled the light cord by the door to turn on the light. The entrance to the secret room was under the floor of the main room.

However, to open the basement entrance, someone had to manually operate the switch.

The switch was hidden under the bedside table, covered by a floor tile that was actually just a brick.

The brick had to be removed to reveal a round button underneath. But one shouldn’t assume pressing it directly would open the entrance.

If Su Mi didn’t have her Psychic-type Ability and notice the small holes on either side of the button, she might have pressed it right away.

After entering the room, Su Mi first opened the bedside table drawer, where she found a specially made steel wire shaped like a trapezoid.

She then moved the bedside table aside, removed the brick, and inserted the wire into the small holes. She heard a faint clicking sound.

Twisting the top of the wire, she carefully observed with her Mental Power, worried she might turn it too much or too little.

After exactly three and a half turns, Su Mi “saw” the mechanism’s latch fit perfectly into place before letting go.

The floor tile at the basement entrance sank downward.

Wow, even if someone tapped on the floor tiles, they wouldn’t notice anything unusual.

Since the light at the entrance revealed a thickness of at least one meter, the method of tapping bricks to listen for hollow sounds was completely useless.

Whoever designed this clearly had no mercy—aside from the steel needles coated with poison on both sides, as soon as an intruder accidentally triggered the mechanism, dense rows of steel needles would shoot out from both sides, turning the person into a human pincushion.

However, with Su Mi present, she had already collected the steel needles into her Dimensional Space beforehand, so even if someone stepped on the switch, it would be useless.

Now that the basement no longer had any harmful traps, Su Mi couldn’t be bothered to go inside.

She simply stored all the boxes from the basement into her Dimensional Space.

As for the radio and the evidence, Su Mi planned to stay here overnight to see if anyone would come. If someone did show up, she could capture them and extract information.

If no one came, she would inquire the next morning about what kind of person the town mayor was or what the local police station’s leadership was like.

Then she would decide who to hand the evidence to.

Just as Su Mi was lost in thought, a sound of something falling echoed from the courtyard.

Su Mi immediately activated her Mental Power to investigate. Her first thought was that the owner of the place had returned, but upon second thought, it didn’t seem likely.

Instead, she discovered a tall, well-built man climbing over the wall, and from the looks of it, he was severely injured.

Not knowing who he was, Su Mi used her Mental Power to scan him thoroughly.

In her “eyes,” the man had no secrets.

Su Mi, who had been calm just moments before, suddenly lit up.

A rare find, a rare find! Could today be her lucky day?

Not only had she obtained boxes upon boxes of treasures and possibly caught a major spy, but now this man had delivered himself right to her doorstep.

That physique—tsk tsk tsk tsk~ That face—tsk tsk tsk tsk~

Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs—he looked to be over 180 cm tall.

His face was smeared with blood, making it hard to see his features clearly, but his eyebrows, nose, and lips—the arrangement of his facial features was simply perfect.

Unfortunately, he now looked like a broken ragdoll. Su Mi’s attention was ultimately drawn to the four bullet wounds on his body.

No wonder she had heard gunshots earlier—it really was gunfire!

Though the sound had been somewhat similar to firecrackers, no wonder Su Mi hadn’t realized it at first.

Su Mi leisurely stepped out of the house—of course, she had already restored the secret room’s entrance to its original state.

“Hello! Com… comrade, I’m a soldier, don’t… don’t be afraid…”

Before Su Mi could get close, she heard his slurred words, only to find that he had already lost consciousness.

So he was a soldier! Well, you’re lucky to be alive.

Su Mi clicked her tongue twice.

Without hesitation, she picked him up in a princess carry, returned to the main room, and placed him on the bed.

In the next moment, Su Mi took out a silver needle from her Dimensional Space and inserted it into the man’s pressure point for inducing deep sleep.

Even though he was already unconscious, she took precautions in case he woke up midway—putting him into a deep sleep was the best course of action.

The silver needle was then stored back into her Dimensional Space, and an emergency medical kit appeared on the bedside table. Inside were surgical tools Su Mi had specially prepared for situations like this.

First, she used scissors to cut off his obstructive clothes and pants, tossing them aside. As for the small identification booklet he carried close to his body, she simply placed it beside the pillow.

She left him wearing nothing but his underwear.

In truth, it was only after “seeing” his identification that Su Mi had decided to save him.

But Su Mi hadn’t expected that despite his young age, this man was quite capable, having already risen to the rank of deputy regiment commander.

She just didn’t know what kind of mission could nearly take out a deputy regiment commander.

Wasn’t it said that once someone became a deputy regiment commander, they wouldn’t go on missions anymore and would just attend meetings and coordinate work every day?
