“Mm, Luke-san, we’ve wasted enough time already.

Let’s quickly go check if there are any survivors in this village,” Momonga said.

Hearing Momonga’s words, Luke stopped pretending to play dead on the ground and jumped up.Full novel: Travelling to Overlord — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Alright, alright, but Momonga, are you really going to go like that?” Luke looked over.

Well, he himself didn’t really care much about how humans saw him, but they were probably going there to ask some questions, right?

Luke’s appearance wasn’t too different from a normal person—just a bit pale—whereas Momonga’s “Bone Daddy” look was really pushing it.

Even the most rational person wouldn’t think someone looking like that was a savior.

More likely they’d think: ‘He’s probably planning to turn us into skeletons!’ or ‘Waaah, Mother, next time you see me, you’ll probably need a pitchfork to dig me up!’

“You have a point…” Momonga muttered, clearly thinking about what could be done.

But Albedo immediately raised her axe and said in a gentle tone, “If they dare to show any disrespect to the appearance of the Supreme Being, then I shall cut off their heads at once.

That would be the greatest mercy I could grant them.”

Seeing Albedo smiling as she said this, Momonga helplessly waved a hand, “It’s fine, Albedo.

Just ignore them.”

Luke silently complained in his heart, ‘This is no joke, Momonga.

Later, there was some idiot who vomited in front of you, and his death was so miserable it was practically a tragedy for the ages!

Still not fully aware of his standing in the hearts of the NPCs of Nazarick, Momonga took out an item from his inventory—a mask that completely covered his head.

It was decorated excessively, not quite crying, not quite angry, but wearing an expression that was… very hard to describe.

“Ah, that mask… I can’t believe you actually dare to wear it, ya ya!” Luke let out a weird cry, sounding nostalgic as he looked at the mask.

This mask actually had no power, no special ability, and wasn’t even an enhancement item.

It was a free seasonal item given out in YGGDRASIL.

Getting it was simple—log into YGGDRASIL for more than two hours between 7 PM and 10 PM on Christmas Eve.

Whether you were PK-ing, questing, or just standing AFK, it didn’t matter—you’d receive it.

And you couldn’t refuse it.

It would automatically appear in your inventory!

You couldn’t destroy it either.

Most people had mixed feelings about getting it, especially since its name was Mask of Envy.

You really had to hand it to the devs—they were so damn cheeky…

Everyone who got the mask that night deeply felt the malice of the world.

Players flooded the official YGGDRASIL forums with angry posts:

“Has the dev team lost its damn mind?!”

“Ohhh, this thing is great, we were waiting for this!”

“Someone in our guild didn’t get the mask.

We’ll provide coordinates.”

“I don’t want to live anymore, waaaaahhh!”

“What the hell is this thing even for?

Are they trying to make me quit the game?!”

“Whoever on the dev team came up with this idea, may your mom pay double for vegetables forever!”

When Momonga and Luke had received the masks back then, they quietly tossed them into their inventories and tacitly went back to discussing quest progress as if nothing had happened.

Whether they were furiously cursing in their hearts was another matter…

So when Luke saw Momonga actually put on the mask now, he couldn’t help but let out a wailing scream.

Momonga snorted, ignored him, and then pulled out a pair of crudely-made iron gauntlets—crafted back when members of Ainz Ooal Gown were just fooling around with smithing practice.

The only ability they had was a slight Strength boost.

“Ah, it must be because you have Albedo now that you dare wear that mask, huh?

You’re no longer a lonely single dog with no Christmas date.

So envious~”

“Luke-san, can you shut up?” Momonga finally snapped.

Even though she didn’t know what was going on, Albedo naturally began twisting her body seductively, her full suit of armor only making the movements look even more bewitching—as a succubus, she was technically always in heat.

Luke grinned and stopped teasing the old bone.

Momonga then cast a flight spell and took off toward the village, with Albedo following by levitating behind him.

As for Luke, he just walked there at a slow pace.

There was no chance to fight anyway, and there wasn’t anything valuable to be gained.

He wanted to take his time and really take in the sight of this first human settlement he was seeing in this new world and reminisce a little about his own days living in the countryside.

“Death Knight, if there are still any knights alive, stop killing them.

They still have their uses.” Momonga gave a mental order and immediately received a response from the Death Knight.

He then flew at high speed toward the sound of the horn—faster than when he had taken to the skies earlier.

The wind whipped against him, and in just a short time, Momonga arrived over the village.

Instead of landing immediately, he first observed the situation from above.

He is a cautious mouse for a reason!

Momonga glanced at the two barely-breathing, immobilized knights.

Just two left, perfect.

Any more would have been useless anyway.

“Death Knight, stop.”

What they had been waiting for was the arrival of their comrades, not the master of the Death Knight.

That meant there was no hope of rescue left.

But even if their comrades had come, what difference would it have made?

In just a few moments, all the others had been wiped out, turned into mindless zombies.

If reinforcements came, they’d just end up the same way.

“Knights, this is our first meeting.

I don’t think I need to tell you my name—you wouldn’t know it anyway.

So, will you lay down your arms and surrender, or bravely fight to the bit—”

Clang!

Clang!

Both swords fell to the ground instantly.

“Luke-san, honestly, these knights are so spineless…” Momonga grumbled on the private channel.

“Ah, Momonga, are you starting to show off your might already?

Make sure to mention my name too!

At least let me get some fame out of this…”

“…Actually, I didn’t even say my own name.

There’s no point talking to such weak humans.”

Unlike the original story, Momonga had no intention of giving them a long speech.

After talking with Luke, he had already started thinking about what to do now that he had confirmed how weak this world was.

First, he needed a base.

This village wasn’t bad.

So… just warn these knights not to bother him.

Decision made, Momonga prepared himself.

“This time, I’ll be merciful and let you leave alive.

Go back and deliver a message to your master—”

Momonga walked up to one of the knights and threatened, “Stay away from this place.

Otherwise, I will wipe your nation off the map.”

The knight nodded frantically, as if terrified Momonga wouldn’t believe him.

“Get lost!”

The knights quite literally rolled and crawled away as fast as they could.
