After dealing with the knights, Momonga turned around to face the villagers in front of him, who were all trembling as they looked at him and Albedo.

To his surprise, quite a number of villagers had survived — about sixty or seventy people.

But without exception, every single one of them stared at Momonga with fear.Full novel: Travelling to Overlord — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was obvious: the terrifying Death Knight standing nearby was this man’s creation.

Someone who could so easily slaughter armed knights could just as easily kill all of them too.

Momonga gazed at the villagers and began to understand.

In their eyes, he was a “powerful being” — someone who held absolute control over their life and death.

However, Momonga’s strength was so overwhelming that it had gone beyond their comprehension.

To these villagers, it was as if a beetle and a dragon were the same thing — because either one could crush them effortlessly.

And a powerful being… should not think with the mindset of the weak.

Right now, even after Momonga had clearly saved them, what he received was not gratitude, nor smiles, nor friendship, not even a “let’s be friends on LINE.”

Instead, what he saw was suspicion and even deeper fear.

For a moment, Momonga fell silent.

At that moment, something came flying from afar.

After smashing through two houses, it crashed onto the ground.

Albedo immediately moved in front of Momonga, shielding him, and turned to look at what had fallen.

It was a human corpse — or what was left of one.

Judging by the armor, it was one of the knights who had escaped earlier.

“Ah, sorry about that,” Luke walked over, smiling casually.

“When I saw him manage to escape, I figured you must have let him go.

I was going to let him live too, you know.

But then the idiot actually called me a ‘lowly commoner’ to my face, thinking I was easy to bully.”

“Well, I just had to reward him a little for that — gave him a nice buff.

Look, now he’s just like us!

He must be so happy right now.

As for the other one, I just asked him a few questions and let him go.

That should be fine, right?”

“It’s fine.

One messenger is enough.” Momonga, of course, would not blame his comrade for this.

To him, Luke was now one of his closest allies.

After years of working together, Momonga knew that Luke was not the type to simply obey orders.

They always discussed and made decisions together. Find the original chapter at g.com.

This was, after all, how the guild Ainz Ooal Gown operated.

Decisions were made by majority vote.

Of course, each member had their own level of influence, and some members tended to follow the opinions of senior players they trusted.

Since Momonga was known for being impartial and always considering the feelings of the guild members, his prestige was among the highest in the guild.

With someone as popular as Luke supporting him, Momonga could practically be said to hold veto power.

“So, where are we at right now, Momonga?

Judging by these villagers’ eyes, something feels off.

Is this really the way to look at the person who just saved your lives?

Or are you all just… a little unclear about your situation?”

Luke frowned slightly at the scene.

Momonga had just saved this entire village, yet these villagers still looked at him with eyes full of suspicion and fear.

According to any ordinary drama plot, the men should already be kneeling and calling him ancestor, while the women should be… well, tearing their clothes in gratitude.

But instead, these people dared to look at Momonga with such strange expressions.

Hearing Luke’s words, Momonga’s heart warmed.

He wasn’t particularly bothered by their gazes, but it was still nice to have someone voice what he was thinking.

After all, in game terms, he had just completed a full “rescue the village” quest.

Reputation rewards should have at least raised their attitude to “respectful” or “friendly.” But instead, just because of his appearance, he was met with suspicion.

This kind of blatant appearance-based discrimination was downright infuriating!

“Luke-sama is right!” Albedo declared.

“You lowly humans — the Supreme One personally saved your worthless lives!

Just for that, you should immediately kneel and give thanks.

And yet you dare look at him with such disrespectful eyes… punishment is the only answer!”

No one in Nazarick could rival Albedo when it came to her devotion to Momonga.

She had only endured the villagers’ ingratitude because Momonga had suppressed her.

But now that Luke had spoken up, Albedo immediately hefted her axe, ready to deliver judgment upon these lowly creatures.

She only released the slightest bit of her killing intent, but that alone made all the villagers collapse to their knees in terror.

If not for her consideration of Momonga’s presence, her killing intent alone could have wiped out these level 1 (or even lower) humans on the spot.

Even so, the villagers were shivering uncontrollably, as if caught in a freezing blizzard.

The old village chief, forcing himself to endure the oppressive fear, cried out, “We are truly sorry, great lords!

Please have mercy!”

Though Albedo was not completely satisfied with their response, it was not enough to justify slaughtering them either.

Still, she had her dignity as the Overseer of the Guardians to maintain and to be constantly scolded might not reflect well on her… it was honestly a headache for Momonga. You are reading on g.com, the official source.

If not for the need to preserve his dignified image, Momonga really wanted to clutch his skull and groan out loud.

‘Forget it.

I’ll just leave this to Luke.’ Thinking this, Momonga sent Luke a private message.

Receiving the message, Luke sighed lightly.

After all, only a few days ago, he had still been “human.” Unlike the Guardians, he retained a certain level of kindness toward humans.

Even Sebas, the most good-hearted of the NPCs, would still think about killing anyone who disrespected the Supreme Beings.

As for Demiurge, the extremely sadistic one, he would probably torture such people to death in the most excruciating ways possible.

Momonga and Luke, however, though rated at -500 karma (utterly evil) by the game, were not actually so malicious.

Their alignment was simply a result of their chosen races being evil-aligned, and their countless PvP kills over the years.

In truth, calling Momonga “extremely kind to humans” wouldn’t even be an exaggeration.

Even good-natured humans weren’t always willing to help strangers, but Momonga went out of his way to do so.

Thus, Luke wholeheartedly supported Momonga’s decision to spare the villagers.

But he also had his own ideas.

“Albedo, put away your killing intent,” Luke said softly.

“As you command, my lord.” Though she still felt displeased, compared to a Supreme One’s order, such feelings were nothing.

“Don’t misunderstand, Albedo.” Luke’s tone softened, just as affectionate as Momonga’s when speaking to the creations of their former friends.

“Your desire to protect the Supreme One’s dignity truly moves both me and Momonga.

But the way I see it…”

Luke’s eyes swept over the kneeling villagers.

“These humans have already died once, haven’t they?

The fact that they’re still standing here is entirely because of Momonga’s mercy and power.

Which means… their lives now belong to him.

“So I hope, Albedo, that you can treat them as Momonga’s property.

And as the First Wife of Momonga’s harem — surely what belongs to your husband, also belongs to you.

Wouldn’t it be best to take proper care of your own things?”

From behind her helmet, Albedo’s expression could not be seen.

But a powerful breath escaped from her mask, like steam hissing from a valve.

“You are absolutely correct, Luke-sama.

I completely agree with your opinion.

Please rest assured — I will raise these humans into plump, healthy livestock!”

Momonga opened his jaw… but no words came out.

What should you do when your companions keep digging pits for you to fall into?

Asking for a friend — it’s urgent.
