Lukas sighed as he looked around. He was back in the city, dropped off by the same duo that had picked him up before.
"Stupid bastard, just you wait and see," he said with clenched teeth. "I would watch you die and make sure I inherit your fortune."
His chest which had been rising fast began to ease as he let his frustration out.
"I have work to do," he said with a tired sigh.
Checking the time on his watch, he squinted.
"It’s 6pm already?"
Maybe it was because he was constantly thinking about survival at Tencent’s that he didn’t notice how much time had passed.
"Maybe tomorrow then," he muttered under his breath. "I kinda need to deposit this money."
Looking at the briefcase in his hand, a smile tugged at his lips.
At least, his visit had yielded something. He ended up borrowing an extra ten million.
"Soon," he comforted himself softly. "It’s only a matter of time before I get all his wealth for myself."
As for feeling remorseful about what he wanted to do, Lukas only shrugged.
This world warranted cruelty, and he would abide by that law.
The soft click of his shoe echoed through the dimly lit street. ’At least, I am getting payback for the poor people killed at that abattoir.’
Thunder crackled through the clear sky in the next instant, and water began falling in droplets.
’Like I said before, a weird climate.’
That was the only thing that justified rain suddenly starting without any prior build-up.
He unfurled the umbrella in his left hand and shielded himself under its canopy.
The bank was only a few minutes away and he decided to get there first before returning home.
After walking a short while, the bank came into view.
A colossal structure that towered over the surrounding buildings.
It was a two-storey duplex that screamed luxury.
From the silver paint to the large crystal pillars surrounding it, to the dense concentration of divine energy forming a dome around it.
Everything flashed with wealth.
Lukas was already indifferent to the structure after having experienced it before.
After folding his umbrella, he walked through the glass doors undisturbed by the guards.
The cold breeze hit his face fast, making him freeze for a fraction of a second.
Then he brushed the cold away and settled fully into the office.
It was a large office made of exquisite brown wood with an oily sheen.
Directly opposite the entrance, a few paces away, was a large, black table, with two attendants.
The bank was relatively empty, with only a few people there.
Lukas did not rush.
Within a few minutes, it was finally time for him.
"Good evening, sir," the attendant greeted him with a beautiful smile.
Lukas nodded and lifted the briefcase.
He slid it forward casually, and let the receptionist handle the rest.
While she counted, Lukas was already on his phone.
He furrowed his brows as he read the message from an unknown number.
[Get yourself a house within three days. We will sort the rent.]
The content of the message already made it clear that it was Raymond who sent the message.
’How is everyone somehow able to get my number?’ he wondered with a sigh.
But that did not clear his frustration. ’Why would he ask me to find a house myself?’ Lukas thought with creased brows.
This was one of the things that made him like the probation. The reduced stress of finding a house.
"Sir, this is ten million denvar," the receptionist said to confirm.
Lukas nodded, then collected the pen and paper she was extending to him.
He wrote his account number and turned and pushed it back to her.
Looking up, he saw the same chubby boy he met in the elevator a few hours ago.
He looked away almost immediately.
’Why is the receptionist treating him that way?’ Lukas wondered.
Unlike him, who was being responded to quickly, the person answering the boy was busy smiling at her phone.
"Done, sir," the receptionist said after a while.
Lukas nodded.
"By the way, do you know anywhere I can rent an apartment?"
The receptionist nodded almost instantly. "The bank has a condominium for rent."
Lukas furrowed, then nodded. "Where is it located?" he asked.
"Bellwood Street. I can give you the agent’s number."
Without even waiting for Lukas’s confirmation, the lady was already scribbling something onto a piece of paper.
Lukas collected it with a nod. "Thank you," he said.
Without waiting for a reply, he advanced towards the exit while tucking the number into his pocket.
"System," he called in a hushed tone as he exited.
Outside, the rain had stopped, with only a slight drizzle remaining.
Lukas opened his umbrella and began walking back to his lodge.
’I’m rich again,’ he mused with a calm smile.
The walk to the hotel was short and peaceful. Lukas’s feet stepped on the wet floor, making weird splashing sounds with each movement.
But it only lasted for a few minutes, and he was back at the hotel.
"Good evening, sir," the receptionist greeted him as he entered.
Lukas nodded, walking past her towards the elevator without a second of hesitation.
"I need to know what time they will start their own operation on that day," he muttered, stroking his chin.
Then a thought occurred to him.
His lips twitched.
"Let’s go house hunting," he said.
But a headache hit him in the next second, causing his knee to buckle.
"What was that?" he muttered, his palm resting on one side of his face calmly.
The elevator chimed open, revealing the long, dimly lit hallway.
But Lukas did not move. He could not. It felt like a bell was being rung inside his head.
"What happened?"
What responded was the Trickster system, the one that had transmigrated him in the first place.
[Your body is weakening due to a lack of divine energy. You are suffering from Divine Withering.]
The response was sharp and direct, but it only made Lukas breathe faster.
Then the world spun before it was plunged into darkness.
