The car slowly made its way through the bustling streets of Dongcheng.

Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting shifting patches of light and shadow across Gu Jingshen’s sharply defined features.

He remained focused on the road, one hand resting on the steering wheel, his demeanor as calm and composed as though the confrontation with Su Zheng Ting earlier had never happened.Full novel: Turns out, he always loved me — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

In stark contrast to his composure, Su Jin Yue had not said a word since getting into the car.

She turned her head and studied the man beside her without bothering to hide her suspicion.

The calmer Gu Jing Shen appeared, the more convinced she became that something was wrong.

He clearly knew that he was stepping into a marriage filled with trouble, yet from beginning to end, he had never shown the slightest hesitation.

Perhaps finally unable to tolerate her scrutinizing gaze, the corner of Gu Jingshen’s lips lifted slightly, though he still did not turn to look at her.

“Is there something on my face?” Su Jin Yue was momentarily taken aback, but she made no attempt to conceal her thoughts.

“I don’t believe that a sharp-minded lawyer like you would willingly step into the mess that is the Su family without having some kind of plan.

What exactly did you marry me for?” Gu Jingshen’s hand remained steady on the steering wheel.

He was silent for a few seconds, his gaze fixed on the road ahead through the windshield.

Sunlight swept across his face, leaving alternating patches of light and shadow that made the man seem even more mysterious.

The corner of his lips curved slightly before he answered.

“It’s true that I have a purpose.” Su Jin Yue immediately narrowed her eyes.

She had asked almost casually, but she had not expected him to admit it so readily.

“In fact, I’ve been planning and preparing for this purpose for many years.” The atmosphere inside the car suddenly fell silent.

A hint of wariness appeared in Su Jinyue’s eyes.

She leaned slightly toward him, trying to find some clue in his calm expression, but ultimately found nothing.

“Then your purpose certainly isn’t simple.” “Of course.” Gu Jing Shen answered naturally, as though concealing a major secret were nothing unusual at all.

Su Jin Yue stared at him for a long moment before giving a faint, humorless laugh.

“Then you’re the hunter, and I’m the prey you’ve been targeting all this time?” Gu Jing Shen did not answer immediately.

He continued looking straight ahead, his expression so calm that it revealed almost nothing.

After a moment, he finally spoke.

“All you need to know is that, in this game, I’m your ally, not your enemy.” Su Jin Yue fell silent.

His answer did not reassure her.

Instead, it only deepened the doubts in her heart.

If he was truly her ally, then why had this man spent years preparing for a marriage with her?

She looked at his profile, silently committing his answer to memory.

Perhaps one day, she would uncover the secret Gu Jing Shen had been hiding all along.

Su Jin Yue turned her gaze toward the window, allowing the tangled thoughts in her mind to run freely.

She knew Gu Jing Shen was hiding something from her, but if he did not want to tell her, she had no intention of forcing him.

After all, their marriage had begun with a contract.

Some secrets would reveal themselves when the time was right.

The car continued for a while before slowly turning into a quiet residential neighborhood.

Unlike the bustle of central Dongcheng, this area was surrounded by lush trees, with villas spaced comfortably apart, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and privacy.

Gu Jing Shen slowed down and eventually stopped the car in front of a villa.

Su Jin Yue glanced through the window, slightly surprised.

“We’re here.” Gu Jing Shen turned off the engine, unfastened his seat belt, and looked at her.

“Mm.” Su Jin Yue opened the door and stepped out.

She stood beside the car, waiting for Gu Jing Shen to get out as well, but he remained seated behind the wheel, seemingly with no intention of going inside with her.

She frowned slightly and looked at him.

“Don’t you want to see where your wife grew up?” “Another time.

I still have something to take care of.” Gu Jing Shen answered naturally.

Su Jin Yue glanced at her watch, then looked back at him.

Although the two of them were now legally married, Gu Jing Shen had maintained a measured distance from her from beginning to end.

He did not ask too many questions about her, nor did he interfere with her life.

It was, after all, perfectly in line with what they had agreed upon in their marriage contract.

With that thought, Su Jin Yue did not press him.

She stood outside the car, leaned slightly toward the window, and said, “If I’m not mistaken, my father will probably contact you himself.” Gu Jing Shen chuckled softly.

Still seated behind the wheel, he looked at Su Jin Yue through the car window, his expression completely unconcerned.

“Don’t worry.

I know how to deal with him.” Su Jin Yue looked at him, a hint of doubt still lingering in her eyes.

“Are you sure?

My father isn’t easy to deal with.” Seeing that she was still staring at him, he added, “Just live your own life without worrying.

As for the matter between your father and me, I know how to handle it.

He has his way of doing things, and I have mine.” His voice was calm yet firm, carrying a confidence that made it difficult to doubt him.

Su Jin Yue looked at him for a long while before finally nodding.

“Fine.

Then I won’t interfere in the matter between the two of you.” Gu Jing Shen smiled with satisfaction.

“That’s a good girl.” Su Jin Yue immediately frowned.

“What did you just say?” “I was praising you.” Looking at his completely innocent expression, Su Jin Yue was momentarily at a loss for words.

In the end, she merely gave a soft huff and turned toward the gate.

A few steps later, the phone in Gu Jing Shen’s hand suddenly rang.

He lowered his eyes to the screen and saw an unfamiliar number calling him.

The corner of his lips lifted slightly.

Without hesitation, he answered.

“Chairman Su?” There was silence on the other end for a few seconds before Su Zheng Ting’s deep voice came through.

“How did you know it was me?” “I didn’t expect Father to be so eager to see his son-in-law.” “Ten tomorrow morning.

Come to my office.” Gu Jing Shen raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Is something wrong?” “We’ll talk when you get here.” With that, Su Zheng Ting ended the call.

Gu Jing Shen lowered the phone, his gaze still fixed ahead.

Instead of looking worried, he seemed to be in an even better mood.

This meeting had come sooner than he expected.

He started the car, but before driving away, his eyes once again turned toward the villa ahead.

Su Jin Yue had already gone inside, and the gate slowly closed, cutting off her figure from view.

Gu Jing Shen withdrew his gaze.

His fingers lightly tapped against the steering wheel, the faint smile still lingering at the corners of his lips.

He was truly looking forward to tomorrow.
