The forest that surrounds the entire Forks on three sides has a very unique name.
Mount Olympus.
It is no longer clear how this name came to be, but for the people of Forks, this mountain, which surrounds the town like a natural barrier, is the legendary sacred mountain where the gods reside.
The trees, vegetation, and small animals in Mount Olympus are incredibly abundant.
Afternoon.
High up on the trunk of a towering tree, Mike held Alice Cullen—whom he had caught shortly after she started running—in his arms as they looked out over Forks below.
Her cool body was settled comfortably against his, one arm draped around his neck, her legs loosely wrapped around his waist as if she had no intention of letting go anytime soon.
The feeling of looking down from a high vantage point is indeed different.
It is not just a sublimation of one’s state of mind, but also an unparalleled sense of security.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, Mike caught a glimpse of a fleeting shadow.
He spoke up, watching Edward Cullen, who was carrying Bella Swan, traversing the dense forest like a gorilla.
“Tsk tsk.”
“It’s good to be young.”
Mike thought to himself, then said to Alice, “I’m going to Washington tomorrow.”
Alice, snuggled in Mike’s arms, looked up.
Mike did not hide anything and said directly, “I plan to go to Washington to purchase a server that can be used to house the Red Queen.”
Alice blinked.
“Is it that little girl we met in another world?”
Mike nodded.
“Yes. I promised her I would show her what the real world looks like. It just so happens that I have time now during spring break.”
Actually, it wouldn’t be impossible to just move the Red Queen’s host unit directly from the Resident Evil world.
However, this is the Marvel Universe.
To be honest, while the technology in Resident Evil is somewhat sci-fi, it doesn’t quite measure up when compared to the Marvel Universe.
Not to mention anything else, just take Stark Industries.
Stark Industries had already developed hovering cars that could fly during World War II.
Although the prototype eventually failed, there is no doubt that the technological timeline in the Marvel Universe cannot be inferred using a normal timeline.
This is an unscientific world where 4K monitors were invented in ’96.
The next day.
Mike set off early and drove for an hour to reach Port Angeles, the closest city to Forks.
There, he used a supplementary credit card given to him by his mother, Julia, to purchase a plane ticket to Washington.
Three hours later, Mike set foot in Washington, D.C.
Soon, Mike did not linger in Washington, D.C., as the headquarters of a certain mysterious bureau was located in the district.
Adhering to the principle of “lay low if you can,” Mike came and went in a hurry.
After arranging for delivery, Mike walked out the door and immediately headed back to the Washington, D.C.
airport.
He boarded the plane.
The next second, his mother, Julia, who was far away in Paris vacationing with Bell Lance, received a text message from the bank and called him immediately.
Over the phone, his mother, Julia, did not question why Mike spent fifty thousand dollars on a server.
Instead, she kindly reminded Mike that this fifty thousand dollars could actually be spent elsewhere—for example, on a candlelight dinner or a romantic trip.
Which of those wouldn’t be better than buying a server?
Could a server stay with you for a lifetime?
At the end, Julia, who was lying on a lounge chair by the swimming pool of a Paris hotel enjoying having her husband, Bell Lance, apply oil to her, asked, “Son, seriously, tell Mom, who in town are you dating?”
Mike politely replied “Goodbye” and hung up the phone.
On the other end, hearing the dial tone, Julia was instantly furious and swore to Bell Lance that she would call the bank to cancel his credit card access.
“I gave birth to him, I raised him, and he’s using my money! What’s the deal? Can’t a mother even ask a question now?”
Julia glared fiercely at Bell Lance, whose hands were covered in oil, and said, “We need to raise a second child. We definitely need to raise a second child. This first one is a complete waste.”
What could Mr. Bell Lance say?
He could only let Julia grab his arm and drag him straight away from the swimming pool toward their hotel honeymoon suite.
At 4:00 PM, Mike had already driven back to Forks and parked his car directly in front of Mrs. Doris’s restaurant.
He entered the building.
Mike said directly to Mrs. Doris, who was behind the bar with a particular complexion and curly hair, “One beef burger.”
Mrs. Doris looked at Mike as he walked in and smiled.
“Mike, you know, I have other delicious food here.”
Mike smiled.
“But they are all delicacies that cost over ten dollars, aren’t they?”
Mrs. Doris smiled.
“If you come here to help me out tomorrow, I will provide a meal just like before.”
Mike said thank you and then refused.
“Thank you for your kindness, Mrs. Doris, but I have already saved enough for my first year of college tuition. Plus, I am confident that I can get an A-grade scholarship, so I want to properly relax this year.”
Mrs. Doris cast a proud look at Mike.
“Really? Then this meal is on me. You have always been a good boy, Mike.”
Mike did not refuse and said thank you.
They left Mike with a supplementary credit card and didn’t restrict how he spent money, but they did limit one thing: the credit card was for Mike to enjoy life, not for him to pay for his own college tuition.
According to this pair of drama-queen parents, when they were in college, they also relied on student loans, and they called it “cultivating Mike’s ability to be self-reliant.”
Mike had a constipated look on his face at this statement.
He turned around.
Mike found a seat and sat down, then greeted the other residents in the restaurant in a friendly manner, including Sheriff Charlie Swan, who was sitting in the corner reading a newspaper.
Sheriff Charlie, who had a mustache, naturally had a good impression of Mike, who had been working odd jobs all over town to earn college tuition whenever he had free time before this year, and invited Mike to sit over.
Mike did not refuse.
After all, last autumn break, it was this sheriff who helped introduce him to a part-time job in the police station’s archives.
Just as Mike had sat down, the restaurant door was pushed open.
Bella Swan walked in and said to her father, Charlie, “Sorry, I was late because I was reviewing for biology class… Mike?”
Mike looked up with a smile and greeted Bella.
“Good afternoon, Bella.”
Charlie put away the newspaper.
“I ordered a spinach salad for you. I hope you like it.”
Bella sat down and gave a suspicious look at Mike, who was sitting across from her.
After hearing her father’s words, she said, “Next time, you should order one for yourself and eat less meat.”
Mike, who was just about to take a bite of the beef burger in front of him, locked eyes with Charlie, who also had a beef burger in front of him.
Bella seemed to notice Mike’s food as well.
She stuck out her tongue and said apologetically, “Sorry, Mike, I wasn’t talking about you.”
Although Bella did not have much contact with Mike, because Mike had once helped her out of a tight spot at her boyfriend’s house, Bella actually had a pretty good impression of Mike.
Mike waved his hand and smiled.
Mrs. Doris did not leave after serving the food but instead began to speak to Sheriff Charlie in a low voice.
