Before she could gather her thoughts, Qiao Lei’s voice came from behind her.

“Xiaxia, what are you spacing out for?”

Jiang Yuxia closed the Diary. “Just checking if I’ve missed anything.”Full novel: Two Years of Empty Rooms After a Flash Marriage, He Went Crazy When I Proposed Divorce — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Qiao Lei took her hand. “If I weren’t about to give birth, I’d really love to have you stay with us for a while.”

When they were young, the three of them—the younger generation—had been the closest.

Jiang Yuxia tucked the Diary into her bag.

She smiled. “How could I intrude on your sweet time with brother-in-law?”

“What sweet time? We’re an old married couple by now.” Though she said this, the happiness on Qiao Lei’s face was unmistakable.

She and Xu Yihao had gone from campus to wedding gown, and they had always been seen as the model couple by everyone around them.

“Xiaxia, I really can’t thank you and your husband enough for what you did regarding your brother-in-law’s matter. It’s not convenient for me to speak with Mr. Wei directly, so please convey my gratitude to him.”

“I can see that although he may seem a bit cold in personality, his care for you and patience with our family are beyond question. Few wealthy people have such tolerance. Seeing you happy puts my mind at ease.”

Jiang Yuxia glanced outside the door.

Aunt and Aunt (maternal) were chatting, while Tang Fei had just taken a call and left for the bureau.

Uncle and the others were all talking with Wei Huaizhou.

Seizing the moment, she lowered her voice and asked, “Sis, what exactly did brother-in-law mess up at the company?”

Qiao Lei sighed.

“On the morning your brother-in-law went to negotiate a partnership, he got into a car accident. The client waited for him for an hour, and in the end, the deal fell through.”

Jiang Yuxia was startled. “A car accident? But he looks fine.”

“He’s fine, and the car wasn’t badly damaged either—just some scratches and a minor concussion. But even after explaining to the client, they wouldn’t accept it. There was nothing we could do.”

“Brother-in-law really had bad luck. How much did the other party compensate?”

“Compensate? Your brother-in-law is too kind-hearted. He said the other driver looked like a young guy and didn’t have the heart to ask for money. Besides, it happened right at the entrance of our neighborhood—could’ve been a neighbor—so he just let it go.”

After Qiao Lei finished speaking, Jiang Yuxia fell into thought.

Xu Yihao couldn’t be lying about this, could he? After all, a car accident couldn’t be faked.

Jiang Yuxia thought for a moment, then took out her phone. “Sis, since you’re nearing your due date, and I remember your home is quite far from the hospital, how about I recommend you check into a postpartum care center in advance?”

She opened the information to show Qiao Lei, who looked astonished.

“Isn’t this the Wisteria Blossom Postpartum Care Center? Your brother-in-law and I looked into it before, but it’s too expensive—a one-month package costs 128,000 yuan.”

“It’s fine. You can stay there free of charge.” Noticing Qiao Lei’s surprised look, Jiang Yuxia added, “Mr. Wei holds shares in this postpartum care center.”

Qiao Lei supported her lower back. “How can we trouble the two of you again…”

Jiang Yuxia smiled gently. “We’re family—no need for such formalities. Go back and pack your things. I’ll notify Wisteria Blossom and have them pick you up tomorrow morning.”

“Brother-in-law is busy with work, and Uncle and Aunt (maternal) are getting older. The postpartum center is right next to the hospital. If you stay there in advance, everything will be convenient.”

Tears glistened in Qiao Lei’s eyes as she held Jiang Yuxia’s hand, repeatedly thanking her.

Jiang Yuxia sent Qiao Lei’s information to the person in charge of the postpartum care center.

Xu Yihao had cheated. Logically, Qiao Lei should have terminated the pregnancy and divorced him.

But considering Qiao Lei’s eight-month pregnancy and her physical condition, which made an abortion highly unsuitable, Jiang Yuxia hesitated.

For her safety, it’s best to send her to the postpartum care center first, delaying the time she discovers Xu Yihao’s affair until she safely gives birth.

After leaving Aunt’s house and standing downstairs, Jiang Yuxia noticed a limited edition Rolls-Royce Phantom parked next to her little white car.

There was no need to ask—this was Wei Huaizhou’s vehicle.

The driver had already stepped out and proactively opened the car door.

Jiang Yuxia walked naturally to her little white car: “See you at the old house.”

However, as soon as she sat in the driver’s seat, Wei Huaizhou took a long stride and settled into the passenger seat.

A prolonged “squeak—” sounded from beneath him.

Wei Huaizhou’s face darkened as he pulled a small yellow duck toy from under him and tossed it into the back seat.

The little white car was cramped, and he had to bend his long legs, frowning slightly.

“Jiang Yuxia, what kind of life have you been living while I was away? Can’t you buy a better car?”

“My car is perfectly fine. Are you taking my car back to the old house?”

“Of course,” Wei Huaizhou glanced at her. “You’d better get used to it early. From now on, whenever we’re in the same place, we’ll come and go together.”

Jiang Yuxia tightened her grip on the steering wheel, puzzled—was this clause in the prenuptial agreement?

She pulled up the navigation to locate the old house and set off!

Throughout the journey, Wei Huaizhou was busy handling urgent work.

Jiang Yuxia stared ahead, thought for a moment, and finally asked, “How much was the deal my brother-in-law lost worth?”

“Not much, five million,” Wei Huaizhou replied without looking up.

“Five million isn’t much? An employee who causes such serious losses to the company should indeed be demoted and have their salary reduced.”

Wei Huaizhou looked up at her: “Isn’t he your relative?”

Jiang Yuxia bit her lip twice, her explanation sounding forced.

“I don’t have a good impression of him, and forgiving him wouldn’t be fair to the other employees, right?”

Wei Huaizhou let out a scoffing laugh.

“Jiang Yuxia, are you naive? When has this society ever truly valued fairness? That’s just rhetoric crafted to trick ordinary people into giving up their own interests.”

“Besides ability, connections, luck, and background—any one of these can easily outweigh fairness.”

Jiang Yuxia fell silent.

Wei Huaizhou’s sharp eyes deepened: “Are you afraid of owing me a favor?”

Jiang Yuxia was taken aback, not expecting him to think of it that way. Just as she was about to speak, Wei Huaizhou said, “Too late. There is indeed something you must agree to cooperate with me on.”

“What is it?”

“I visited Grandma’s attending physician yesterday,” his tone grew slightly solemn. “The cancer cells have spread. He estimates Grandma has less than a year left.”

Wei Nainai had late-stage intestinal cancer, something Jiang Yuxia had always known. But when Wei Huaizhou announced her limited time, Jiang Yuxia’s heart sank deeper and deeper.

“What do you need me to do?”

“The day after tomorrow, I’ll bring Grandma home from the hospital for a few days so she can celebrate her birthday at home. You’ll move back to the old house and live with me to put her at ease.”

Jiang Yuxia paused briefly: “Alright.”

After all, she couldn’t stay in her own small apartment these days anyway.

Wei Huaizhou hadn’t expected her to agree so quickly and asked, “Have you encountered any troubles recently? Do you need my help?”

Jiang Yuxia tensed, remembering Director Liang and her brother repeatedly emphasizing that possessing the Diary was confidential and must not be disclosed.

She immediately replied, “I’m fine.”

Wei Huaizhou studied her for a moment before looking away: “Good, then. Miss Jiang, here’s to a pleasant collaboration.”

The car stopped at the entrance of the old house.

The nanny came to greet them, and Jiang Yuxia naturally headed toward a guest room on the second floor to rest.

Before she could take more than a couple of steps, Wei Huaizhou grabbed her arm and pulled her directly back to the master bedroom.

After closing the door, she looked up at him with her bright, dark eyes, confused.

“What’s wrong?”

“Auntie Wang is Grandma’s person. What would she say if she saw us sleeping in separate rooms?”

Jiang Yuxia suddenly understood. She glanced uneasily at the only large bed in the room.

“Then how will we sleep tonight?”

“Together,” Wei Huaizhou said coldly, unbuttoning his shirt cuffs. “I have no interest in you, and I won’t stoop to dishonorable actions. You can rest assured.”

Jiang Yuxia pursed her lips. “That’s good. I wouldn’t want to accidentally kick Mr. Wei in the middle of the night either.”

Wei Huaizhou frowned, turning to look at her, but the young woman had already lifted her chin and opened the door to go feed the fish in the garden.

Before evening, Wei Huaizhou received a phone call and went out.

Jiang Yuxia had dinner alone.

By nearly eleven o’clock at night, Wei Huaizhou still hadn’t returned.

Jiang Yuxia claimed the large bed, hoping he would stay out for the night.

However, in the middle of the night, half-asleep, she felt a tall, warm body lie down beside her.
