Jiang Yuxia had no choice but to return to the police station.

Director Liang and the others were gathered around the Diary, observing it closely.

Sure enough, when Jiang Yuxia approached within five meters of the Diary, the entry for July 24th warning of the explosion slowly began to appear.Full novel: Two Years of Empty Rooms After a Flash Marriage, He Went Crazy When I Proposed Divorce — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Everyone gasped in shock.

Jiang Yuxia exclaimed in surprise, “It never left my side before, so I had no idea this was how it worked.”

Director Liang pondered thoughtfully, “If this Diary only exhibits its precognition function when near Ms. Jiang…”

A senior inspector nearby joked, “I’m afraid we’ll have to hand Ms. Jiang over to the relevant authorities along with it.”

Jiang Yuxia paused, “But the Diary doesn’t update constantly. If you keep watching me all the time, it would disrupt my life.”

“I understand,” Director Liang considered for a moment before saying, “Let me make another call to communicate with the higher-ups. Ms. Jiang, please wait a moment.”

“Alright.”

After Director Liang left, several senior inspectors gathered around Jiang Yuxia, offering warm words of concern.

They praised her for being so young yet having the determination to serve the country, and commended her for being a heroine who rivals men.

The police chief even personally poured her a cup of tea, saying she was about the same age as his daughter.

Facing this group of officers who were old enough to be her elders, Jiang Yuxia maintained a polite but stiff smile, her lips almost frozen.

Director Liang finally returned.

“Ms. Jiang, after an emergency meeting, the higher-ups have decided that the Diary will remain in your custody. At the same time, they will arrange for a dedicated person to protect you.”

“However, we have one request: if the Diary updates with any warnings related to public safety or social issues, you must inform us promptly.”

Jiang Yuxia nodded, “That’s not a problem, but what about the safety hazards at my home…”

Before she could finish, Director Liang assured her, “We will investigate and handle that as well. From now on, I will be your point of contact. Ms. Jiang, you can reach out to me directly if you encounter any difficulties.”

Jiang Yuxia thought for a moment, “Could I contact Officer Tang instead? He’s usually closest to me, and he’s also my cousin. I don’t want to bother Director Liang with every little thing.”

Understanding her meaning, Director Liang looked at Tang Fei, “Officer Tang, from now on, you will be responsible for liaising with Ms. Jiang. Report any urgent matters directly to me.”

Suddenly called upon, Tang Fei stood at attention, “Yes, sir!”

Director Liang added Tang Fei on WeChat right then and there.

Tang Fei never dreamed that as a mere police captain, he would one day report directly to a director?

Director Liang turned to Jiang Yuxia, “To avoid drawing attention, Ms. Jiang, please move to the interrogation room next door. Let’s discuss the plan for investigating the explosion hazard at your home.”

“Alright.”

To avoid any appearance of impropriety, Director Liang and the senior inspectors left first. Jiang Yuxia followed Tang Fei a few minutes later.

Unbeknownst to Jiang Yuxia, her back as she entered the interrogation room was secretly photographed by a passing officer.

And sent to her mother-in-law—Zhu Lixia.

The Wei Family Old Residence.

Suzhou garden-style architecture interspersed among lush greenery throughout the grounds.

Inside one of the two-story living rooms, a massive crystal chandelier glittered brightly.

Wei Huaizhou’s parents sat with their arms crossed, both wearing grim expressions.

Zhu Lixia lifted her chin, her gaze sweeping over Ye Xiaoluo sitting opposite her.

“This matter, Jiang Yuxia is at fault, but do you think you’re blameless? Who gave you the nerve to take people to catch a mistress? How dare you even say it out loud!”

Ye Xiaoluo’s fingers tightly gripped her skirt, her lowered face pale and ashen.

“I’m sorry… After Brother Huaizhou spoke to me, I already realized my mistake. I even posted an apology to Miss Jiang on Weibo.”

“Who cares whether you apologize or not?” Zhu Lixia’s tone was severe. “Don’t you know that by doing this, you’ve only confirmed the incident and pushed our Wei Group into the center of public opinion? Otherwise, why would Huaizhou’s father and I rush back to the country immediately?”

Tears streamed down Ye Xiaoluo’s cheeks, falling with soft patters.

She choked back sobs, her breathing noticeably quickening. “Auntie, I’m truly sorry.”

Mr. Wei scolded, “What’s the point of blaming Xiaoluo all the time? It was Jiang Yuxia who caused all this trouble by livestreaming and spreading the scandal everywhere!”

Zhu Lixia turned her gaze to the man sitting beside the sofa, who had remained silent all along.

“Huaizhou, say something. Jiang Yuxia must be taught a lesson for this. Knowing full well she’s part of our Wei family, she still dared to call the police. Now your reputation is being dragged through the mud online. Is she satisfied?”

The man’s features were exceptional, sharp and somewhat severe. Beneath his slightly raised brows, a pair of cold, indifferent eyes accentuated his deep and imposing demeanor.

Wei Huaizhou’s silver-gray shirt clung to his tall, upright torso. His sleeves were rolled halfway up, revealing faintly visible veins trailing up the back of his hands.

He was bent over, handling company matters.

Hearing this, he didn’t even look up, responding coldly with a “Hmm. Satisfied.”

He hadn’t been listening at all.

Zhu Lixia pressed her fingers to her temples in frustration.

Just then, she opened her phone and saw a message someone had sent her.

Zhu Lixia abruptly stood up. “Oh no, oh no! This Jiang Yuxia has actually been taken to the police station!”

Only then did Wei Huaizhou lift his head, his cool, dark gaze falling on the photo on Zhu Lixia’s screen.

In the photo, Jiang Yuxia wore a light blue dress, her hair loosely draped over her shoulders. From the back, she looked like a college student, following a police officer into an interrogation room.

Judging by the angle, it was taken secretly.

Ye Xiaoluo glanced at it twice and tentatively said, “It must be fake, right?”

Zhu Lixia snapped angrily, “What do you mean fake? The person who sent this is the godson of my good friend. He’s a proper police officer—how dare he send me something fake?”

Before Wei Huaizhou could say anything, Zhu Lixia began pacing back and forth, gritting her teeth in anger.

“You shouldn’t have listened to your grandmother and insisted on marrying a woman you had no connection with. I had someone look into it—her father, Jiang Wendong, is a deadbeat who owes millions!”

“What kind of decent woman could she be? Marrying you was clearly just for our family’s money! And now, she’s ended up in jail. Just wait for the news to break tomorrow!”

Ye Xiaoluo spoke softly, “Auntie, this must be a misunderstanding. How could Miss Jiang’s family owe money? Just a couple of days ago, she bid millions on an antique.”

Zhu Lixia glared at her. “Nonsense! She’s spending my Huaizhou’s money!”

“Money is meant to be spent. Since I gave it to her, how she spends it is her business.” Wei Huaizhou’s voice was cold, startling Ye Xiaoluo.

She gave him a complicated look.

Zhu Lixia persisted, “Call her right now. Tell her to come home immediately. I want to know exactly what happened.”

“I already called. She didn’t answer.” He had tried calling her as soon as he landed in the country.

No idea what she was doing, but she didn’t answer anyway.

Wei Huaizhou’s indifferent gaze returned to the computer as he continued working, not the least bit anxious.

Zhu Lixia was so angry she could stomp her feet.

“Tomorrow, your father and I will go with you to divorce that Jiang Yuxia!”

With a soft click, Wei Huaizhou neatly closed the laptop.

“My marriage with Jiang Yuxia is our own business. Whether we divorce or not, and when, is up to us. You don’t need to interfere.”

“Huaizhou, you’re my son. I just want you to marry a wife from a suitable background. Is that wrong?”

“Jiang Yuxia is fine,” Wei Huaizhou’s eyes darkened. “During our marriage, I don’t want to hear you speak ill of her again.”

Ye Xiaoluo was stunned.

Zhu Lixia looked at him with some trepidation. She was still a bit afraid of this son of hers; he had never been close to her since childhood.

“Huaizhou…”

Wei Huaizhou cut her off: “If there’s nothing else, you should go back. Don’t disturb me.”

Zhu Lixia knew it was useless to say more and left in anger.

Ye Xiaoluo hesitated: “Brother Huaizhou…”

“You should go too. As for Uncle Ye, I’ll give him a month off.”

After he said this, Ye Xiaoluo felt too embarrassed to stay any longer, keeping all her words bottled up inside.

The old house suddenly fell quiet, and Wei Huaizhou returned to his work.

The housekeeper approached: “Mr. Wei, the mistress’s room is ready.”

“Understood,” Wei Huaizhou remembered something and looked up to ask, “How long has it been since she last came back?”

The housekeeper recalled: “After you went abroad half a year ago, the mistress moved out. Every time she comes back, she stays no more than a day.”

Wei Huaizhou lowered his gaze, unlocked his phone, and found Jiang Yuxia in his contacts.

He sent her a message:

[Where are you? Should I pick you up?]
